We have run the story of Bruno and Alice before ...in 2014 so in our 6th year of ABUZZ it seems right to print it again...it remains valid and important and a great way to share love and safety! ENJOY!

A LOVE STORY ABOUT SENIORS SAFETY Chapter 2 See you Next Fall

In the late summer of last year, I met a man named Bruno and began to think that something might come of it. I could tell from the way he treated his great-grandchildren that he was both kind and patient. But you know men. No matter how "visible" I tried to make myself through summer and into the fall, he never caught on that I was interested. I'm not shy, so I decided to ask him out myself. I live in a seniors' apartment not far from his house, and our Friday card nights are pretty wild affairs, so one week I asked him to be my guest. He accepted. I prepared for my date with a long hot bath. Reading for hours while soaking in bath oil has always been one of life's little pleasures—at least since the day I learned to read. When I was ready to get out, I stood up and reached for the towel on the rack opposite the tub. It was just a little too far away. My feet shot out from under me and I crashed down onto the tub ledge, landing with all my weight on my hip, then falling right out onto the bathroom floor. I was in agony and for the longest time couldn't find the energy to move at all. I was afraid I'd broken something, and wondered who would find me naked on the bathroom floor when I failed to pay my rent next month! I struggled to reach the cordless phone I always bring into the bathroom (not just for safety—I hate to miss a call). I managed, and phoned Mrs. Lun next door. We keep each other's keys... just in case. She came right in and helped me out. She also brought over a rubber bath mat and told me who could install a grab bar near the tub. I was okay, nothing was actually broken—just bruised. But I can tell you, I sure wasn't in any shape for an evening of cards, let alone a date! In fact, I was beginning to wonder if I'd ever get to know this gentleman at all. THANKS TO THE PUBLIC HEALTH AGENCY OF CANADA 2011

still #2? What was the best thing before sliced bread? Why do people say “heads up” when you should duck? Why do we press harder on the remote control

I’m never lonely because I have 4 men in my life….

Often asked question? How come there are young people living in my 55+ community...I thought there were rules!!

I get up with Charlie Horse I spend the day with Arthur Itis

According to human rights a person cannot be discriminated against because of age. So although a community may be advertised as an Adult Community any age person can actually live there if they wish and can afford it.

Knowledge is Power Seminars What are my options? Who can help me? Who can I trust? This is the question most retiring and retired folks ask themselves when they start to think about their future. Wanting to stay in your home on a fixed income can be challenging… what can you do? Do you have a home with potential for a basement apt or granny suite?

Can you take in a student? What about home sharing with other like minded

seniors ...we have a group for that!! Sharing bills can be used to make life easier, less stressful and perhaps there’s extra now for a holiday in there too!!

We believe “Knowledge is Power” so we are bringing some specialists in to allow you to ask your questions. April 9th rebooked after weather cancellation in February.. we will have 3 representatives from the City of Brampton to speak on housing for seniors in Brampton and what is in the planning stages. We will also be able to ask questions about 2nd units, such as basement apartment and granny suite add on rules and requirements. Including an opportunity to ask questions about the option of co-housing or shared housing, a subject in the news lately! If you booked for February you do not need to call again..we still have your reservations! Look forward to seeing you!

May 14th Panel Discussion...listen to and ask questions of professionals related to housing and finance, home health and legal issues relating to your life. Location TBA. APRIL seminar is at the Lawn Bowling Building, Flower City Seniors Center McLaughlin Rd and Queen Street, from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm we suggest you reserve your seats by calling 647 982 4052 This series of Knowledge is Power is sponsored by and presented by Real Estate Designed for Seniors, founding member of Making Our
