The Best of Dixon Farms

Page 1

Welcome

It is with great excitement that we welcome you to the Best of Dixon Farms. It has been just over 10 years since we purchased our first female and started the journey of breeding Shorthorn cattle. Over the years we have been fortunate enough to meet numerous individuals, who with their knowledge and experience, have helped shape what has become Dixon Farms. To you and to everyone who have purchased cattle, helped us at shows and in any way been a part of our farm, we sincerely thank you. The last few years have seen a shift in our program, the herd is smaller and the quality is stronger. The young females show huge potential in their first years of production, and our older females and donors continue to produce cattle we are proud to stamp with the DF prefix. This combined with the addition of some very exciting bulls will move our program in the direction we have been working towards for the last decade. We have worked towards hosting our own sale for a few years, however small numbers make a traditional sale challenging. The opportunity to market our cattle and genetics online was a perfect fit for us, and allows us to tap into the power of current technology and Social Media. We do understand that an online sale will be embraced by some, and may create a challenge for others. If in anyway we can assist you, please do not hesitate to call. The lots that follow this letter are a true representation of the Best of Dixon Farms. The heifer calves represent the most influential and potent cow families we own. Their sires were bred here, and are a combination of the best of American and Canadian genetics. The flushes and embryos are a true sampling of our very best, and include genetics that are not available on the open market. We are honored to have consignment lots from our customers and friends, and enjoy watching cattle we have sold turn into success stories for their new owners. Please feel free to join us on October 1st for an open house here at the farm, or contact us to view the cattle at anytime.

When we purchased 54N from the Shadybrook Sale we knew that she had the structure and design to become a solid producer with a ton of longevity. She has done just that, and this heifer calf is a spitting image of her mamma. She is extended through her front end and is extremely long made. I think this heifer would work very well in breeding program and could be successful breed several different ways.

We have always admired the Fair Lady females that Rockdell have shown throughout the years, and we jumped at the chance to buy one. This roan heifer calf was a favorite from the start. unfortunately we lost her mother early this spring, and this heifer has kept up with the rest in term of growth and size. I know that as this heifer develops through the winter she will be one the best in the pen come breeding season year.

The power of strong donor can shape a program, and that is exactly what the 13N female is doing. She has not only produced exceptional progeny, but she has done it consistently. Her first daughter, by Pure Gold, was a champion female herself and has gone onto produce 2 exceptional heifer calves, how have topped sales and won shows themselves. Her 2011 bull calf is one of our favorites. Her daughter, by Pure Solution, was our high selling calf in 2008 and went on to be a Division Winner at the National Show and the reserve champion Female at Agribition. Embryos from her also sell as lot 12. 13N’s last heifer calf born in 2010 was sold to Spady Farms in BC and has been consistently topping the Shorthorn Division. I honestly believe that this female will have an even larger impact on our operation, and on the breed in the year to come. Open and ready to flush. Flush to take place before April 1, 2012. Online biddng

Sale Start: Online bidding will start on October 1, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. CST, with the internet gavel coming down on the First lot at 7:00 p.m. CST October 6, 2011. Lots will then proceed to sell one after the other until all lots are sold. A sale order will be posted by 9:00 a.m. on October 6, 2011. How To Participate: In order to participate in the online auction you will need to pre-register and obtain a buyer number. To do this go to the LiveAuctions website, www.liveauctions.tv, and select Best of Dixon Farms Online Auction. After logging in there is a link you can select that says, “register for a buyer number.” This form requires you to fill out your bank’s name, city, prov, phone number and a contact. You may register to bid after bidding has opened but please remember that authorization to bid is not instantaneous. How The Auction Works: Once you have a username and have received a buyer number then you are ready to bid. You will see a screen that is unique to your user ID. There will be a list containing the sale lots. If you click on a lot the video clip or photo will be displayed to the right. The next bid, current price, proxy bid, and manual bid buttons will be displayed below the video area. This page will react to your bids by stating, “you are in” or “you are out.” No one else will be able to see your bid – that data is not accessible to the public. Each time you login, the auction screen will display your personal bidding information. Your auction screen is unique and private displaying your activity to only you. Remember that you must have the lot that you are bidding on selected. This is where it tells you if you are in or out. It is here where you can also see your proxy (automatic) bid settings as applicable. What is a Proxy Bid?: With a proxy bid you can enter your maximum bid and then sit back and watch. When you enter a proxy bid amount the LiveAuctions system automatically bids on your behalf up to your maximum bid. If the lot closes out for less than your maximum, that’s all you’ll have to pay. This means that you don’t have to keep coming back to re-bid every time another bid is placed. This makes it more convenient and less time consuming. It can also greatly assists those breeders that can’t be near a computer or are busy with other duties at the time of the final bidding. Your maximum amount is kept confidential from other bidders and the seller. Even though you can see this amount on your screen, no one else can. The LiveAuctions system compares your bid to those of the other registered bidders and the system automatically places bids on your behalf, using only as much of your bid as is necessary to maintain your high bid position. The system will bid only up to your maximum amount as necessary to maintain you as the high bidder. If another bidder has a higher maximum, you’ll be outbid and the system will tell you that “YOU’RE OUT.” But, if no other bidder has a higher maximum you win the final bid. Questions/Assistance: If you have questions or require assistance, please contact Jill Mader at 403-990-9187.
