NOW TO CLEAN UP

Liverpool City Council staff faced a massive clean-up after more than 300mm fell over one weekend in early February. Fallen trees and flooding led to power cuts, road closures and damaged vehicles across the Local Government Area. Moorebank and Chipping Norton were badly affected, with the SES ordering residents to evacuate. The SES received more than 500 calls for assistance. “We were lucky to avoid serious injury in the wild weather but it really has left a huge cleanup job,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said. “Council crews worked through the weekend and simply didn’t stop. They are in it for the long haul – it will take months to clean up. “It has been a massive test of our staff and I’ve been very proud to once again see their strong commitment to the community in action. And of course we are also very grateful for the great work of the SES, who put themselves in harm’s way to rescue residents and keep us safe.”

$8M SPORTS COMPLEX KICKS OFF Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller has launched construction of a new $8 million sports complex in Middleton Grange. Cirillo Reserve will feature two soccer fields, floodlighting, terraced seating, a cricket pitch, outdoor gym, picnic facilities and children’s playground. “Cirillo Reserve is a huge win for both Middleton Grange and the wider Liverpool area,” Mayor Waller said. Cirillo Reserve will also include an off-leash dog park, pathways and landscaping. Construction is expected to be completed by early 2021.

CPAC ADVERT

Liverpool City Council has sent workers to the Southern Highlands to help Wingecarribee Shire Council recover from this summer’s devastating bushfires.

Money collected on the day helped contribute to a Council donation of more than $25,000 for the NSW Rural Fire Service.

Wingecarribee Shire Mayor Duncan Gair said the assistance from Liverpool City Council was a great example of councils working together.

More than 600 new citizens were welcomed to Liverpool and Australia in two ceremonies over the Australia Day weekend. In Australia Day awards, Rajesh Venkataramaiah was named Liverpool’s Citizen of the Year, with awards also going to Robert Brassell (Senior Citizen) and Kira Rosch (Young Citizen).

There’s a lot to love in Liverpool – and Australia Day is right up there at the top of the list. This year’s event drew a massive crowd to Woodward Park with a fantastic line-up of entertainment, food, games, rides and more.

IT’S A TEAM EFFORT Liverpool City Council is changing the way we look after the city’s parks. Each part of Liverpool now has a dedicated team taking care of its parks. The new structure is significantly more efficient and will enable parks to be maintained more regularly. Each park will be visited and mowed every three weeks. Sixteen leaders have been appointed from within Council to lead teams throughout the Liverpool LGA.
