Liverpool building bonanza
Liverpool will be transformed into a city of the future thanks to $125m in grants from the NSW Government for beautification projects, including new swimming pools, upgraded streets and park renewals.
Liverpool mayor Ned Mannoun called the grants a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity for Liverpool to continue its transformation into the most accessible and appealing city in Sydney’s south west.
The grants, announced by State treasurer Matt Kean on behalf of the Government’s financial arm WestInvest, are for major local projects to provide a more comfortable lifestyle for the community.
$125m for new projects
The spectacular new projects will now be completed well ahead of previous predictions and make Liverpool an even more alluring place to live and work.
The projects are:
• Swimming pools at Carnes Hill Leisure Centre ($53.3m)
• Scott Street upgrade ($8.1m)
• Railway Street upgrade ($6.9m)
• Macquarie Street upgrade ($13.4)
• Brickmakers Creek –Woodward Park ($43.9m)
One Year Update
Dear Fellow Resident
Time does fly. It’s been one year since you gave me the opportunity to work for you as Mayor again.
I wanted to give you an update on what my team and I have been working on.
Liverpool is an amazing place and we have so much potential.
Before we reach our potential, we need to get back to basics and focus on the fundamentals – manage your rates properly, keep the streets and parks clean, and make sure our roads are in better condition.
We have started this process. Below is a list of some of things we have been working on and delivered:
• Repaired the budget after inheriting a multi-million-dollar deficit;
• Achieved significant construction savings on Civic Place;
• Got the 40km speed limit restored in the CBD;
• Programmed 12 cultural events and festivals for 2023 in the CBD as well as other events;
• Secured millions of dollars in government grants for projects;
• Appointed a new CEO, Mr John Ajaka; and
• Increased frontline services - Back to Basics, DAs and Outdoor crews.
We are also working on our commitments in the 100 Day Plan (the swimming pools, carparks, Kurrajong Rd upgrade and many more).
I want to thank you all for your patience –in particular with the challenges that came with the 3 floods we had in one year, which really tested us as an organisation and as a community.
On behalf of myself, the councillors and staff, rest assured that we are doing everything we can to make sure Liverpool is an amazing place for you and your families to live.

Upgrade extravaganza − where the new
Work will start as soon as possible on transforming Liverpool into a showpiece of Sydney’s south west, using $125m in government grants to build swimming pools, beautify parks and upgrade key access roads.
Liverpool mayor Ned Mannoun said he would announce starting dates as soon as they are available.
“There are just a couple of things to finalise with the NSW Government about the funding,” he said.
“As soon as that’s done, we’ll get things moving.”
Liverpool will become a glittering example of a streamlined, modern city with new projects to excite the community and provide a healthier and friendlier environment.
NSW treasurer Matt Kean praised the contribution of Mayor Mannoun in negotiations to get the government funding.
“Ned Mannoun is transforming Liverpool with his civic improvements and vision.
“He’s generating record investment with his hard work and the hard work of the council.”
Almost $54m of the funding will be used to complete stage 2 of the Carnes Hill Leisure Centre, including a 25 metre pool, an indoor learn-to-swim pool and a spa/ steam/sauna facility and gymnasium area. It will also include an outdoor water play area and change facilities for families and groups.
Australia Day comes to life in the mall
Liverpool Mall came alive to celebrate Australia Day with cricket games, face painting, a classic movie, food, entertainment and fun.
Taking advantage of the sunny weather, the community descended on the mall to help Australia celebrate its national day.
Cricket Australia set up an inflated wicket so the fast bowlers and batsmen of the future could run through their skills.
And children gave full rein to their creativity at the face painting stall.

Deputy mayor says G’Day to 34 “new Aussies”
Liverpool rolled out the red carpet for 34 new citizens at a welcome to Australia, citizenship ceremony at Casula Powerhouse and Arts Centre on the very appropriate, Australia Day.
Deputy mayor Mazhar Hadid welcomed the new citizens in a ceremony watched by their family members and relatives on a busy summer’s day of celebration and congratulations. Recipients proudly waved their citizenship plaques for photographs and made their delight obvious as they embraced one of the most momentous days in their life.
“Welcome to you all. You’re joining one of the friendliest and most all-embracing nations in the world,” Mr Hadid said.
“Nowhere is that more recognised than in Liverpool where we pride ourselves on the diversity of our community and our friendliness.
“People come to this country looking for a new life, looking for a peaceful environment and looking for their families to be safe and secure.
“And that’s what Australia offers.”
FLIGHT exhibition takes off
The long-awaited FLIGHT retrospective finally took off in spectacular fashion at the Casula Powerhouse and Arts Centre to rapturous applause from excited well-wishers on the ground.
More than 200 people came to see the project opened by the NSW Minister for the Arts Ben Franklin MLC last month. The opening represented three years of collaborative planning and preparation by just about all of Liverpool Council’s workforce and administration.
“Getting FLIGHT off the ground is a tribute to the long hours so many people and so many departments put into its development and staging,” said Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun.
“The result of their hard work is a fascinating journey through time.
“FLIGHT’s take-off was a truly cross-Council effort, from the libraries and museum to the environment department, the whole CPAC team and the depot.”
With something to offer everyone, this blockbuster runs until 11 June.
