Junior Kyle Johnson scored a game-high 19 points to lead four players in doublefigures Long Island’s 76-61 win over Bryant at the Wellness Center. LIU overcame a sluggish offensive performance by shooting 50 percent from the field after the break to pull away from the Bulldogs and improve to 7-7 on the season with its third straight win. The Blackbirds used a 13-0 run spanning both halves to take the lead for good. After a jumper by Bryant’s Nick Pontes tied it at 25-25, LIU scored the final six points of the half. Freshman Julian Boyd book-ended a three-pointer by sophomore David Hicks with three foul shots to give LIU a 31-25 halftime lead. Out of the intermission Johnson scored the first seven points to build a 38-25 lead for Long Island. A three-pointer from Peter Lambert briefly trimmed the Bulldogs’ deficit to 38-30, but that was as close as it got the rest of the way. A layup by Boyd gave LIU its largest lead of the night at 66-50 and the Blackbirds were able to weather some late triefectas from Bryant by converting at the foul line where junior Jaytornah Wisseh hit 8-of-10 in the final two minutes. Bryant gave the Blackbirds a fight in the early going, jumping out to a 17-12 lead. Cecil Gresham broke a tie with a three-pointer and Sam LeClerc followed with a layup to build the five-point advantage. The Bulldogs were ahead 23-19 following a Pontes bucket inside before LIU got four straight foul shots from Wisseh and senior Ron Manigault to tie the game. Johnson added nine rebounds, while Wisseh chipped in with 15 points and seven assists. Freshman Michael Culpo hit four three-pointers coming off the bench and finished with 12 points. Boyd led all players with 11 boards and collected his second double-double with 11 points. Manigault contributed five points, nine rebounds and four assists to help LIU win, despite shooting just 36.8 percent for the game. The Bulldogs were led by Lambert’s 18 points on six treys. Pontes added 10 points. Bryant shot 41.8 percent, but was hampered by a 6-of-15 night at the line and 14 turnovers.

Score tied - 6 times. Lead changed - 2 times.
