Pendant or Surface Direct Pendant or Surface Semi-Direct

Aerial is a primarily direct pendant family that provides an excellent balance of performance, design and value.

Why use a pendant fixture with mostly direct light?

Energy codes are more restrictive than ever êAerial drives usable light to the workplane with a designed direct optical approach êThe result is fixture efficiencies >85% ASHRAE W/ft2 Standards

1. For low-ceiling applications, Aerial provides good task light levels even with wide row spacing. The broad distribution reflector (BDR) option increases uniformity by reducing the footcandle ratios. In this example, the maximum ratio is reduced to 1.7 with the BDR option. 2. In task-ambient uses, Aerial provides sufficient ambient lighting with power densities well under ½ Watt per square foot.

3. To increase visual comfort by reducing contrast between the fixture and the ceiling, the semi-direct option adds some light to the ceiling immediately above the fixture.

In renovated spaces with high ceilings, Aerial’s direct distribution and high fixture efficiency enables low-energy lighting for conference and teamwork areas. Depending on the lighting needs in the space, the designer can select the proper lamp-ballast combination to satisfy target light levels at very low power densities, less than ½ Watt per square foot in some cases.

Increasing visual comfort by lighting the spatial envelope Unlike spaces designed with indirect or perimeter lighting systems, the vertical surfaces in direct lighting applications may appear dark without supplemental perimeter lighting. The combination of direct lighting and some perimeter lighting can provide a visually interesting, comfortable environment. A few examples are shown below.

Office example:

Conference room example:

Use Wall/Slot 6000 to provide grazing light onto an architectural textured surface

Use Wall/Slot 2100 to enhance spaciousness and provide visual relief

Classroom example:

Use Mod 44 Recessed Wall Wash to provide vertical surface lighting onto a whiteboard
