PEBBLE GRAIN COLLECTION
Client: Dooney & Bourke Project: Employee Product Catalog
The new Pebble Grain collection is sure to distinguish itself from its pebbly predecessors because it is made up of silhouettes far less traditional by comparison. The bags in this collection include the popular new Chiara tote type handbags, the new Elisa slouch bags (in 3 sizes) with slanted front zip pockets a beautiful braided leather shoulder strap, and the unique trapezoidal Maurizia bag. This Pebble Grain group available in a gorgeous array of colors, both basic and seasonal, will quickly become beloved by those with a most discerning eye for fashion, as well as, quality. The Pebble Grain leather is 100% cowhide and has been treated for water repellency. The hardware is gold-plated brass treated with a lacquer to prevent tarnishing. The leather may be cleaned with a water dampened white cotton cloth and a mild bar soap used in a circular motion.
PATENT COLLECTION
Patent leather has come a long way since the hard stiff “Mary Jane” shoes (that came in black and white only) of our youth. Today it is softer, is available in a wide array of color, and has become a major presence in the handbag industry. Dooney & Bourke’s first major venture into patent leather was with the popular “Hayden” bag. This particular bag is the namesake of D&B’s most recent spokes- model, Hayden Panettierre. She is the young actress who plays the indestructible cheerleader on the popular “Heroes” television show. Not only does the bag have her initials on an over sized luggage type tag (which is actually brass, coated with 18kt gold), but she also provided input into the design; in conjunction with our chief designer, Peter Dooney of course. This Spring D&B will introduce a new collection of Patent Leather bags in great new shapes like the zipper embellished “Cinzia” bag, that is available is 2 sizes. With so many colors offered like cognac, cobalt and fuchsia there is most definitely a color to satisfy even your most particular customers.

Leveraging the Legends Meeting April 11-13, 2012 · Cleveland, Ohio
Mentoring is an integral component of the long-term success of any organization. It requires unselfish concern for the success of others as well as the willingness to share ones resources, skills and knowledge. I embrace that concept, and my signature attests to my commitment to the $50 Billion Empowerment Plan and my pledge to mentor a “junior agent” toward his/ her success. Mentoring Guidelines What is mentoring? Mentoring is a developmental relationship/partnership through which a more experienced person (a mentor) shares his/her knowledge, skills, perspective and experience to foster the personal and professional growth of someone else (a mentee.)
What is a mentor? A mentor engenders personal and professional growth in an individual by sharing knowledge and insight that have been learned through the years. A mentor is a: Teacher who shares his/her knowledge and experience Problem Solver who refers the mentee to resources and offers options Motivator who provides encouragement, support and incentives Coach who helps overcome performance difficulties through positive feedback (reinforce behavior) and constructive feedback (change behavior) Guide who helps set goals that are: 1. Specific 2. Measurable (including completion date) 3. Results-oriented 4. Relevant 5. Reachable
What are the mentor selection guidelines?
In order to be considered for a mentoring opportunity, an agent must: 1. Be tenured with at least five years of service at New York Life 2. Have qualified for Council during three of the past five years and be pro-rata for Council during the year of consideration 3. Be a Registered Representative 4. Have a compliance profile of one 5. Submit a letter of recommendation from his / her Managing Partner 6. Commit to bimonthly meetings for skill building, coaching, encouragement and field observation
What is a mentee? A mentee is an achiever, “groomed” for advancement with opportunities to excel beyond the limits of his/her position. The mentee should possess a strong desire to learn new skills; be proactive in continued studies of matters that affect our industry; be accountable and committed to the expectations of the mentor.
How are mentoring meetings structured? PRP in Nature Mentees should update their mentors and fellow mentees about their activity since the last mentoring meeting – lead generation, appointments made/kept, referrals obtained, success prospecting chicken list, number of fact finders completed, etc. Role Playing Mentor and mentee(s) should engage in structured activity to help sharpen telephone skills, factfinding skills, ability to ask for qualified referrals, ability to succinctly deliver elevator speech and open/close client meetings. Presentations from Invited Guests Home office and field specialists should be invited to share their expertise about various topics: 1. Effective use of RightBridge 2. Targeting groups with whom you have an affinity (churches, professional moms, golfers, boaters) 3. Voluntary Payroll Deduction 4. Facilitating seminars to grow your business Focus on Long-Term Professional Growth Share/discuss leadership principles from best selling authors. Case Studies The mentor and each mentee should share their best fact finder with the group for discussion.
Compensation Commission splits should be outlined in the agreement. Below are guidelines/suggestions: 1. The mentor receives 25% of the commission since he/she has shared a client from his/her book of business 2. The mentee can earn portions of the commission (in 25% increments) based on his/her participation in the following: a. Fact finder/opener b. Closing/recommendations/applications c. Service (underwriting follow up and policy delivery) Referred Leads There should be established guidelines about compensation/commission splits for referrals.
Media Some offices have utilized film clips effectively during their meetings.
Minimum Requirements Mentees must commit to being proactive and working toward earning Council status before the end of their third year.
How often are meetings held?
Measurable Goals
While some agents meet weekly with their mentee(s), the market recommends meeting at least twice a month, one hour per session.
What are the mutual expectations? Signed Mentoring Agreements Mentors and mentees should sign an agreement, acknowledging acceptance of certain expectations: 1. Attending scheduled mentoring meetings 2. Attending and participating in all African American Cultural Market regional and national meetings
Mentee should establish goals, with mentor’s input, and performance should be tracked monthly against those goals.
Outreach/Communications Mentors are encouraged to engage their Managing Partners, as their respective relationships permit. Consider: 1. Inviting the MP to mentoring meetings 2. Sharing success stories with the MP 3. Meeting for lunch to discuss recruiting/ARD on African American Agents involved in the mentoring process Share successes with our market’s writer/branding consultant for publication.
Ambassadors Ambassadors will be asked to accept the responsibility of assignment to a designated number of mentor/mentee relationships in an effort to keep the market informed of the effort’s effectiveness and progress.
Resources
Ambassador Expectations Engage assigned mentors for updates about the progress/successes. Suggestion is once per month as a minimum expectation and the conversation should include the mentor and mentee sharing monthly activity, i.e. FYC, number of applications, appointments, etc.
Mentor’s Book of Business RightBridge Case Development Team African American Market Unit New York Life Insurance Company
Participate in scheduled, monthly conference calls with all Ambassadors; market manager; and any other persons that are requested for the purpose of sharing activity information, successes etc. This information will be tracked and measured by the market manager.

Registered Representative To continue participating in the mentoring program, the mentee must successfully pass the required testing to become a Registered Representative within six to 12 months of signing the NYLIC contract. Professional Designations Mentees should develop a strategy to obtain designations that are relevant to their practice, within a reasonable timeframe. Mentees should be recognized, market-wide, upon earning these designations.
This document is a template for uniformity within the market. However Mentors and Mentees should develop and maintain a consistent, structured, results-driven process that meets their needs. Source: USC College of Mass Communications & Information Studies Alumni Society
