PLATFORMER GAMES BY KALEB BURRELL Platformers got popular primarily because

Mario was the savior of video games and mario was in fact a platformer so there’s no surprise elfjlkj platformers got so popular. The first platformer ever was donkey kong The most popular platformer ever was super mario world.

“Shigeru Miyamoto: The gameplay of Mario games originated early on with Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong was a game where you were running on platforms and jumping over things — that came to be called a "platformer" style of video game (the genre was called "platforming"). Then it evolved from there, and we decided to try to incorporate more settings — things like the open air, the open sky, underwater and things like that. And to do that, we incorporated a side-scrolling mechanic where you scrolled sideways through the screens, and that became the base for the game that was Super Mario Bros. So that's the origin of the game play” -NPR.org

The rpg by:Gavan Mitchell

Welcome to the world of rpgs home to many games including, but nowhere near limited to POKEMON, SKYRIM, OBLIVION, FALLOUT, DEMON'S SOULS, BLOODBORNE, FINAL FANTASY 10, AND SUPER MARIO RPG. Rpgs began in with dungeons and dragons while not technically the definite first rpg it is considered the great grandfather of modern rpgs. The most popular rpg by far is pokemon, being the 2nd. largest video game series of all time, only being surpassed by mario. Skyrim is also one big contender along with itĹ› counter part fallout 4. Both being the most popular games in their respective series elder scrolls and fallout.

One reason rpgs are as popular as they are is the immersiveness. . You can . choose how your character looks, what they do , and you always have a story you can put to the side to do as you wish. Don´t want to go through the island challenges? try competitive battling instead instead. Main storyline boring? play the dark brotherhood . This allows rpgs to usually make you feel like a pokemon master or the dragonborn. This is one of the largest pulling factors . for the rpg, and definitely helps

Another reason is there freedom of choice. No one likes being stuck in the boring story. You may think that I Already brought this up in immersion, but Well the thing is that was refering to the vanilla choices. the freedom i am talking about comes in the form of mods. rpgs are the second most moded type of game next to the sand box. Some mods add to the immersion and some completely destroy it while freedom is part of immersion it also is a stand alone pulling factor to this amazing genre. I hope the next time you pick up a game you consider an rpg

Mods: modifications made to a game to make it more entertaining or fun

FPS BY CARTER LLOYD “when gamers came along the planet laughed at us but now we're gaming in the future and you have not seen the last of us-Dan bull

Wolfenstein widely thought to be the world's first FPS(first person shooter) was made in 1992 and just like the entire series of games was not enjoyed until doom was released.

DOOM was the game that blew up this series and made it famous many believe the reason for it and all games that came after its popularity was the fact that it was new and you could play online with your friends and play against them in a new way.

SANDBOX GAMES AIDEN TUCKER

Sandbox There are many sandbox games out there (I’m not talking about what kids play in), such as Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto, or even Driver San Francisco. Before we can actually fully explain sandbox games, we have to define them. The Definition of Sandbox A sandbox is a game where there are minimal limitations of the gamer, allowing them to roam around the world of the game and explore. Sometimes even being able to change the world at will. Some sandbox games also allow the player to pick the task that they want to do. Sandbox games are also known as “free-roaming game.”

9

Explaining Sandbox Games Gamers tend to play sandbox games according to what they prefer. Which is the same with many games. These games have structured elements-such as mini-games or tasks just to name a few - that may be ignored by the gamer playing the game. The sandbox’s nature tends to make storyline challenges for the developers. Because of this, tasks or side missions tend to follow a progression. This means that when you finish a task or side mission, you most likely unlock a new task or side mission. Sometimes you even unlock something new like a new outfit or item.

Sandbox games are not always the same. Massive multiplayer online role-playing games (also known as MMORPG) tend to have a big mixture of sandbox games. First-person shooters have started going more deeply into the almighty sandbox realm. Titles like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption are a few examples of the types of games that let you roam around and shoot everything.

Despite their name, most sandbox games tend to have restrictions. This is usually due to the limitations of the design. Some are just short limitations to areas of the map that you unlock at a later point in the story. An example of one of these games is Driver San Francisco. After you complete a certain mission in the game, you unlock more of San Francisco to drive in. You also unlock more cars to buy and drive in.
