VIRTUAL REALITY The applications of virtual reality are sport, architecture, the arts, medicine, and entertainment. Wherever it is too dangerous, expensive, or to do something in reality, virtual reality is the alternative. Virtual reality allows us to take virtual risks in order to gain real world experience. When the use of virtual reality becomes more widespread and is more cost effective, we will use for much more serious and important purposes than just for entertainment.

Can virtual reality be used more than just for entertainment? Virtual reality is the use of technology to stimulate the senses of the human body to create the illusion of reality. Our brain uses this information and displays it to us in a understandable way.

APPLICATIONS Some of these applications are the military, education, medicine, education, engineering, business, and scientific visualization. For example, a trainee surgeon could perform on a virtual body instead of taking the risk of experiment on an actual person. A trainee fighter pilot could experience the feeling actually being in the situation of battle, better preparing him/her for the actual fight.

JOURNEY TO MARS-IMPOSSIBLE?

Mars is a planet millions of miles away from the Earth. Did you know that humans are planning to land on Mars as early as the late 2030s? Mars can reveal things about the universe and solar system. We can find out if Mars used to have life or if it currently has life.

For decades, NASA and its partners have sent orbiters and rovers to better understand the Red Planet and pave the way for future astronauts. According to the nasa.gov website, there are three thresholds to cross to do this ‘impossible’ task. In the first stage, we rely on Earth more than anything else. We use the ISS(International Space Station) and low Earth orbit. NASA prepares for missions beyond.

JOURNEY TO MARS(CONTINUED)

Next, from the late 2010s and the early 2020s, NASA conducts many missions near the moon(cislunar space). An example of one mission is NASA redirecting an asteroid boulder to orbit around the moon. Astronauts will explore the asteroid and return to Earth with samples. This will test NASA’s spacewalking, sampling techniques, as well as Solar Electric Propulsion, which will be needed to send manned missions to Mars. The third phase is about actually going to Mars, either rovers or a manned mission. This lasts from now to the 2020s to the 2030s and beyond. We no longer will rely on the Earth and actually go to Mars, either a manned mission or a rover. Missions are already at this point, with the next rover landing in 2020. Mars is the next frontier for human exploration, and it's becoming an achievable goal. We are near the day that mankind makes its next giant leap.

BROADWAY BRIDGE FAIL Many people were quite surprised when the Broadway Bridge in Little Rock didn’t budge when it was hit with explosions on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.. This left many demolition experts stunned about the why an explosion won’t budge the 93- year old bridge.

We can’t go near it

Danny Straessle said

because it could fall at

thatt the demolition

any moment” It doesn’t

contractor made cuts to

bring any danger to the

pre-weaken the bridge

area, but can hold river

before the explosion. “It

traffic longer than

should have brought the

expected. The Broadway

bridge down. We’re

Bridge’s central arches

assessing what

did, however, come down 5 hours later than

happened.”” said Danny. “ It’s extremely

planned, a little before 3

weakened and

p.m. from a crane.

extremely dangerous. 7

DESIGN MATTERS Some theories why the broadway bridge might not have fallen is because of its structure and design. Since the design is a solid ribbed arch(Tied arch) this might lead to why the explosions didn’t work against the bridge.

The impact from the explosions might’ve been absorbed as seen as the image above. This is one theory of why the explosions might’ve have budged the bridge.

HATE CRIMES

Humans are strange. People have the capacity to show kindness, but more often show cruelty. Indeed, simply looking back on history is depressing. From atrocities like Unit 731, a human experimenting facility, to murder facilities like Auschwitz, humans have shown time and time again that humans can show disgusting levels of brutality. But then again, this was the past, and we have changed over this half century. Right? Right?

I WISH... The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant(ISIS) has declared a jihad against anyone who is not a Sunni Muslim. ISIS tortures, maims,, and murders dissenters, as well as raping and forcefully impregnating cihldren as young as eight.

Meanwhile, in Asia, the Pakistan-Indian conflict has reignited. Since the partition, both countries have murdered and totrtured each other, and as of December, conflict is imminent.

But in the end, we can show kindness instead of hate and fix the wrongs of the past. We need to let go of prejudice and racism, because only then can there be peace.
