American Women’s Gymnastics Led by the world’s best gymnast, Simone Biles, the American women’s gymnastics team played to get the gold medal at the Rio Olympics. The team of Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez, Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas and Madison Kocian lived up to expectations as suppressive favorites by putting up the highest total score on every event. Russia won silver and China bronze. The margin of victory was a surprising 8 points. The medal, the Americans’ third team gold after 2012 and 1996, came in the final Olympics for the national team coach, Martha Karolyi, an important part in the rise of American gymnastics for more than 30 years. I feel that the gymnastics olympics were extremely different than in the past. Now the gymnasts are scored on how difficult the skill was and if they were able to perform it. If someone performs the death vault and doesn’t stick the landing instead of getting four points taken off the judges would take off two. I think that in the past they were scored on how pretty the performance was, but now they are scored on the skill they’re attempting.
2016 World Series My name is Katherine Moritz and I’m writing about the 2016 World Series. For those who don’t know what that is, it’s baseball. Sadly the Chicago cubs won. Now most people would be glad that the Cubs have finally broken the 108 years losing streak, but I am not. The Chicago cubs played their final game in Cleveland, ,Ohio against the Cleveland Indians on November 2, 2016. But no matter how much I dislike the cubs I have to applaud them for winning
Tragic Plane Crash Columbian Plane Crash Who was involved? 71 people who were killed in this dramatic plane crash. 6 survivors (3 players, 2 crew members, and a journalist). There were about 30 rescuers, police, and people from the military searching to find any hope of survivors. What happened? A huge plane crash , with most of the Brazil football (soccer) team. When did the crash actually happen? The crash happened at about 11pm Monday (November 28,2016) Where did this tragic event take place? They crashed in a wooded mountain area, close to Medellin. They were heading to Copa Sudamericana.
Tragic Plane Crash Columbian Plane Crash Why did the plane crash? They had a few electrical failures at around 10pm, or at least that was when the airport got notified. How bad was the damage? The pane split in two parts, the front stayed in pretty good condition, but the back was completely destroyed. What do I think? I was really sad when I figured out about the plane crash. Brazil is one of my favorite soccer teams, after FC Barcelona and Argentina, I was really sad, especially since they were heading towards a game. I was a little happy though when I figured out Neymar Jr wasn’t on the plane during th crash. Neymar is my third favorite player, so him not being there was a really good thing to me.
