LINE TECH linear modules

Lubrication

Maintenance

LINE TECH linear modules with ball screw or toothed belt drive are modular, ready-to-install linear units with drive. Sealed rail guiding elements are employed in all sizes. Guides and drive are protected from external factors (such as dirt and chippings) by a steel strip / the toothed belt. The base profile is made of aluminium alloy and manufactured with the extrusion process. Additional limit switches fitted on the outside, in conjunction with motors and a controller, ensure correct positioning of the carriage and provide protection against overrun. The selected design provides for a high level of performance with the most compact dimensions.

LINE TECH linear modules are lubricated with Microlube GBU Y 131 at the factory. This quality grease offers outstanding properties for the guidance and screw drive elements as well. Greasing should be carried out at regular intervals, depending on the load and area of operation. On an average, re-greasing is required every 500 hours. All roller bearings are greased for life and thus do not require any maintenance. Correct and sufficient greasing can substantially prolong the life of linear modules.

LINE TECH linear modules are maintenance-free (apart from re-greasing required).

Service temperature The permissible operating temperature (between 5 and 80 °C) is determined by the synthetic materials used. The specifications of the relevant manufacturers apply for motors and control units.

Note: Also follow here the instructions on the lubrication points (pages 60/61).

Note on dynamic load ratings and torques The determination of dynamic load ratings and torques is based on a 50, 000 m stroke. If comparative values must be

16

Expedient load

calculated for a 100, 000 m stroke, the values for Mx, My, Mz and C must be divided by the factor 1.26.

With a view to service life, loads of less than 20% of the dynamic load ratings have generally proved to be expedient.

LINEAR MODULES Limit switch mounting

Fitting position of limit switches On request the following non standard limit switches are available:

The limit switches are used in conjunction with a control unit to limit the stroke (prevent overrunning of the carriage) and to define the reference position.

– PNP make type (PNP-NO) – NPN break type (NPN-NC) – NPN make type (NPN-NO) – Reed switches – mechanical switches

LINE TECH employs the following standard inductive limit switches: – PNP openers (PNP-NC) Supply: 10...30 V DC Current consumption off-load: < 10 mA Load: max. 200 mA

Note: At the factory the plus and minus limit switches are preset to a nominal stroke of 0 to +5 mm.

Special applications often require a separate reference point switch to be mounted between the positive and negative limit switches. The limit switch closest to the motor mounting (limit switch controller interface) is known as the forward limit switch. Note: If a lateral support rail is selected (type LM…L/R), the limit switches can only be fitted on the opposite side.

Limit switches / reference switch mounting overview

The following diagrams show the mounting position of the limit switches. The reference position can be allocated either to the plus (+) or to the minus (-) limit switch.

LINE TECH bridge modules

Lubrication

Maintenance

LINE TECH bridge modules with ball screw or toothed belt drive are modular, ready-to-install linear units with drive. Sealed rail guiding elements are employed. Guides and drive are protected from external factors (such as dirt and chippings) by a steel strip / the toothed belt. The base profile as well as the lateral profile are made of aluminium alloy and manufactured with the extrusion process. Additional limit switches fitted on the outside, in conjunction with motors and a controller, ensure correct positioning of the carriage and provide protection against overrun. The selected design provides for a high level of performance with the most compact dimensions.

LINE TECH bridge modules are lubricated with Microlube GBU Y 131 at the factory. This quality grease offers outstanding properties for the guidance and screw drive elements as well. Greasing should be carried out at regular intervals, depending on the load and area of operation. On an average, re-greasing is required every 500 hours. All roller bearings are greased for life and thus do not require any maintenance. Correct and adequate greasing can substantially prolong the life of bridge modules.

LINE TECH bridge modules are maintenance-free (apart from re-greasing required).

Service temperature The permissible operating temperature (between 5 and 80 °C) is determined by the synthetic materials used. The specifications of the relevant manufacturers apply for motors and control units.

Note: Also follow here the instructions on the grease points, page 102.

Expedient load

Note on dynamic load ratings and torques The determination of dynamic load ratings and torques is based on a 50, 000 m stroke. If comparative values must be

70

calculated for a 100, 000 m stroke, the values for Mx, My, Mz and C must be divided by the factor 1.26.

With a view to serviceable life, loads of less than 20% of the dynamic load ratings have generally proved to be expedient.

Bridge modules Limit switch mounting

Limit switches

On request the following non standard limit switches are available:

The limit switches are used in conjunction with a control unit to limit the stroke (prevent overrunning of the carriage) and to define the reference position.

Note: At the factory the plus and minus limit switches are preset to a nominal stroke of 0 to +5 mm.

– PNP openers (PNP-NC) Supply: 10...30 V DC Current consumption off-load: < 10 mA Load: max. 200 mA

Limit switches / reference switch mounting overview

Note: If a lateral support rail (type LM… L/R) or a lateral profile (type BM...V/W) is selected, the limit switches can only be fitted on the opposite side.

Limit switch actuator

Special applications often require a separate reference point switch to be mounted between the positive and negative limit switches. The limit switch closest to the motor mounting (limit switch controller interface) is known as the forward limit switch.

LINE TECH Compact Modules

Lubrication

Maintenance

LINE TECH compact units with ball screw drive are modular, ready-to-install linear units with drive. Sealed guide elements are employed in all sizes. The guides and drive are protected from external factors (such as dirt and chippings) by synthetic ribbons. Base and cover profiles are made of aluminium alloy and manufactured by extrusion process. Additional limit switches fitted on the outside, in conjunction with motors and a controller, ensure correct positioning of the carriage and provide protection against overrun. The selected design provides for a high level of performance with the most compact dimensions.

LINE TECH compact modules are greased at the factory with Microlube GBU Y 131. This quality grease offers outstanding properties for the guidance and screw drive elements as well. Greasing should be carried out at regular intervals, depending on the load and area of operation. On an average, re-greasing is required every 500 hours. All roller bearings are greased for life and thus do not require any maintenance. Correct and sufficient greasing can substantially extend the life of the compact modules.

With the exception of re-greasing, LINE TECH compact modules are maintenance-free.

Service temperature The permissible operating temperature (between 5 and 80°C) is determined by the synthetic materials used. The specifications of the relevant manufacturers apply for motors and control units.

Note: Also follow here the instructions on the grease points (pages 141 and 142).

Note on dynamic load ratings and torques The determination of dynamic load ratings and torques is based on a 50, 000 m stroke. If comparative values must be

112

Expedient load

calculated for a 100, 000 m stroke, the values for Mx, My, Mz and C must be divided by the factor 1.26.

With a view to serviceable life, loads of less than 20% of the dynamic load ratings have generally proved to be expedient.

COMPACT UNITS Permissible deflection (1/2; for KE1… and KE2…))

If the maximum permissible deflection is exceeded, the compact units must be additionally supported. The maximum permissible deflection is limited by the maximum deflection angle of 5'. This value being exceeded will have an impact on the unit’s life-cycle.

The following diagrams apply for: - Firm clamping (40–50 mm per side) - 3–4 screws per side - Solid base

COMPACT UNITS Limit switch mounting

Fitting position of limit switches

Limit switches The limit switches are used in conjunction with a control unit to limit the stroke (prevent overrunning of the carriage) and to define the reference position. LINE TECH employs the following standard inductive limit switches: – PNP openers (PNP-NC) Supply: 10...30 V DC Current consumption off-load: < 10 mA Load: max. 200 mA

On request the following non standard limit switches are available: – PNP make type (PNP-NO) – NPN break type (NPN-NC) – NPN make type (NPN-NO) – Reed switches – Mechanical switches Note: At the factory the plus and minus limit switches are preset to a nominal stroke of 0 to +5 mm.

Limit switches / reference switch mounting overview

The following diagrams show the mounting position of the limit switches. The reference position can be allocated either to the plus (+) or to the minus (-) limit switch. Special applications often require a separate reference point switch to be mounted between the positive and negative limit switches. The limit switch closest to the motor mounting (limit switch controller interface) is known as the forward limit switch.

POSITIONING UNITS Design fundamentals / Lubrication / Maintenance

LINE TECH Positioning Units

Lubrication

Maintenance

LINE TECH positioning units with ball screw drive are of modular conception, ready to built-in linear slide units with drive. Sealed guide elements in all sizes are employed. The guides and drive are protected from external factors (such as dirt and chippings) by expansion bellows. The base plates and carriages are made of an aluminium alloy and the extrusion process is used for manufacturing. Limit switches integrated in the base plate, in conjunction with motors and a controller, ensure correct positioning of the carriage and provide protection against overrun. The selected design provides for a high level of performance with the most compact dimensions.

LINE TECH positioning units are pre-lubricated with „Microlube GBU Y 131“. This quality grease offers outstanding properties for the guidance and screw drive elements as well. Greasing should be carried out at regular intervals, depending on the load and area of operation. Lubrication is required every 500 operating hours on average. All roller bearings are greased for life and thus do not require any maintenance. Correct and adequate lubrication can substantially prolong the life of positioning units.

LINE TECH positioning units are maintenance-free (apart from the lubrication required).

Service temperature The permissible operating temperature (between 5 and 80 °C) is determined by the synthetic materials used. The specifications of the relevant manufacturers apply for motors and control units.

Note: Also follow here the instructions on the grease points (page 181).

Expedient load

Note on dynamic load ratings and torques The determination of dynamic load ratings and torques is based on a 50, 000 m stroke. If comparative values must be

154

calculated for a 100, 000 m stroke, the values for Mx, My, Mz and C must be divided by the factor 1.26.

With a view to serviceable life, loads of less than 20% of the dynamic load ratings have generally proved to be expedient.

Accuracy The precision of any linear system not only depends on the positioning and repeating accuracy but also on the track accuracy of the carriage. This accuracy can be seen in the following diagrams.

Also the mounting surface of the positioning unit has a great influence on the track accuracy since any inaccuracy of the mounting surface can hardly be compensated by the positioning unit itself.

positioningUNITS Limit switch fitting

The following diagrams show the mounting position of the limit switches. The reference position can be allocated either to the plus (+) or to the minus (-) limit switch. Special applications often require a separate reference point switch to be mounted between the positive and negative limit switches. The limit switch closest to the motor mounting (limit switch controller interface) is known as the forward limit switch.

design / application Calculation guidelines

Concept

Static load

Definition of the drive motor

The determination of service life must be calculated based on the respective documents of the linear guide system and the ball screw drives. Also for the drive belts we shall refer to the specific literature. Since the service life is normally dependent on the linear guide system, the following formulae can be applied for approximate determination:

For purely static loading or impacts, static parameter fS is calculated to verify that a bridge module with a sufficiently high load-bearing capacity is selected. Factoring in static load rating C0 [N] and load Fr [N] gives:

The drive motor forms the link between the control signal and the movement to be applied to a given load. Size and type of the drive motor primarily depend on the load, the required displacement speed and the acceleration factor. Calculation and choice of a positioning unit shall be based on the worst case service conditions. For the optimal drive unit configuration, LINE TECH offers you different types of step-motors, DC and AC motors together with the appropriate continuous- or linear path control. Listed below are the formulae necessary to determine the correct motor for your application.

If fS ≥ 1, the safety margin is large enough. If fS ≤ 1, please consult LINE TECH.

Dynamic load Nominal service life L10 is derived from dynamic load rating Cdyn [N] and load Fr [N]:

L10 =

( )

C0 fS = –––– Fr

3

Cdyn –––– [105 m rolling distance] Fr

Remark The above formulas are applicable only in case all bearings are equally loaded, i.e. the load Fr is applied at the center of the cradle. The drive (ball screw / toothed belt drive) must be checked if any linear units are installed vertically. LINE TECH disposes of different test programs. If you provide us all the necessary information, we’ll be pleased to assist you.
