Christine Core joined Lincoln as the head softball coach in June of 2018 and is in her third season with the Blue Tigers. Before COVID-19 cut short the 2020 season, Core had Lincoln positioned for one of the most successful campaigns in program history. The Blue Tigers opened the season 4-0 and went 8-2 at LU Softball Field, and the program held nine opponents to three or fewer runs while posting a pair of shutouts. During her first season, Core led LU to its highest victory total since 2014 and helped the Blue Tigers improve in nearly every offensive statistical category. Six Blue Tigers batted .275 or better in 2019, and the team hit 20 home runs, its highest total in four years. In addition to their improving play on the field, Core’s student-athletes have also excelled in the classroom, with 13 players earning academic recognition from the MIAA for posting cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or higher in 2020. Under Core’s leadership, the Blue Tigers have received six MIAA Academic Excellence Awards, two MIAA Scholar Athlete Awards, and 24 appearances on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Jordan Lawson, meanwhile, was named to the CoSIDA/Google Cloud Academic All-District first team in 2019.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2021 SOFTBALL MEDIA GUIDE

About the MIAA The MIAA is one of the nation’s oldest conferences and one of the most successful in NCAA Division II. The conference dates all the way back to 1912 and currently has 12 full-time members with two associate members. The MIAA also has its own streaming network called The MIAA Network. Below is more information about the Association. The MIAA’s Success Over the past 107 years, the MIAA has gained the reputation of being one of the best NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Student-athletes have won 45 NCAA team championships and well over 300 individual national titles. In the classroom, hundreds of student-athletes have earned Academic All-America and All-District honors. The MIAA Footprint The footprint of the conference reaches four states: Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma with schools in the metro area of Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Wichita. A fun fact is the Association has two schools located a few blocks away from State Capitol buildings in Kansas and Missouri with the Oklahoma State Capitol a couple of miles away from an MIAA campus! The MIAA Conference Office The conference office is located in Kansas City’s historic West Bottom’s District, just blocks away from the city’s downtown business and entertainment area. The office is headquartered in Hy-Vee Area which is one-of-a-kind and state-of-the-art facility with 12 full-sized basketball courts. The Arena is a hub for local, regional, and national sporting events for all ages in numerous events. It is estimated that over 500,000 people will visit Hy-Vee Arena over the year, giving the Association’s office a unique branding opportunity! To learn more about the MIAA’s office, click here. Mike Racy oversees the conference and the conference office staff as the full-time Commissioner. The office has four full-time employees with assistance from an intern over the year and correspondent for The MIAA Network. The MIAA’s Governance Structure When it comes to how the Association operates, the MIAA has three administrative councils and dozens of committees comprised of head coaches and administrators from around the conference. The three administrative councils that approve amendments or rule changes are the CEO Council which consists of University Presidents, the AAC (Athletic Administrators Council) which is made up of senior woman administrators and athletic directors and the IRC (Institutional Representatives Council) which is SWAs, ADs, and faculty athletic representatives. Each head coach in the MIAA is apart of the coaching group for their sport and the group can suggest rule changes or new rules for the conference to be approved by the AAC, IRC and CEO Councils. Like the coaches group, any committee within the Association can suggest new rules or rule changes to the three councils. The student-athletes have a voice in the MIAA as well! The annual SAAC Summit provides student-athletes with the chance to talk, discuss and suggest any new rules or changes to the current rules to be approved by the three councils. The MIAA’s Championships The MIAA currently conducts championships in 18 sports. For men’s athletics, champions are crowned in football, cross country, basketball, indoor and outdoor track & field, baseball, tennis, golf, and wrestling. Championships are awarded in women’s athletics for volleyball, cross country, soccer, basketball, indoor and outdoor track & field, softball, golf, and tennis. Championship venues for all sports are hosted by some of the top facilities in the midwest. Men’s and women’s basketball has played at Kansas City’s historic Municipal Auditorium, which has hosted more than 10 NCAA Final Fours dating back to the early 1940s. Campus facilities and regional event centers and courses also offer student-athletes in various sports some of the finest championship experiences in the NCAA. The MIAA Network Fans or family can follow their favorite team or student-athlete anywhere in the world and whenever they want, thanks to The MIAA Network! The Network is a platform powered by BlueFrame Technology and allows each school to produce its own games. Broadcasts can be viewed on a desktop, mobile devices, and Internet-connected television devices anywhere in the world. The MIAA Network content is available live, via live DVR, and is also immediately archived for on-demand viewing after each event. Fans can find all of the action on The MIAA Network website and on The MIAA Network apps for Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku. Any revenue generated by the Network is directed back to the schools as well! The MIAA Network is not only a resource for fans but students as well. Universities have taken the opportunity to have students on their campuses get hands-on experience by broadcasting and producing games. The hands-on experience can be used as class credit towards a degree or an added experience towards their career goal. A unique experience that The MIAA Network has is during the MIAA Basketball Championships. The Championships are completely broadcasted and produced by students from various universities in the Association. It is one of the only Championships to be streamed, broadcasted, and produced entirely by students in the NCAA! Not only does The MIAA Network provide gameday coverage, but it also has a weekly show called The MIAA 360 Show. It is the only weekly produced show by a conference in Division II and highlights all 12 full-time members and two associate members. Commissioner Mike Racy also host a weekly podcast called The “A” Team that is produced by The MIAA Network. The “A” Team features national guests in the sports industry and coaches or administrators from the Association.

John Moseley was officially named as the Director of Athletics at Lincoln University on April 12, 2016, after having served as the Interim Director of Athletics since July of 2015. Moseley initially joined the Blue Tigers on April 14, 2014, after being named as the head men’s basketball coach, a role that he has maintained in addition to his duties as the Director of Athletics. Moseley was instrumental in Lincoln University’s partnership with Jefferson City Parks, which resulted in the construction of a state-of-the-art campus wellness and recreation center known as the Linc. A $14-million project located on Lincoln’s campus, the Linc houses a gymnasium with 4 basketball courts or 6 six volleyball courts, a suspended track, a spacious fitness center, office space, classrooms, meeting spaces, and a President’s Suite that overlooks Reed Stadium.

John Moseley Athletic Director

Simultaneously, Moseley collaborated with the LU Student Government Association to promote a plan that allows Lincoln to become more competitive through an upgrade in athletic facilities, increasing athletic scholarships, and providing a better game day atmosphere for Lincoln students. In November of 2016, Lincoln students bought into the vision and voted for a new student athletic fee which provides funding to support Blue Tiger Athletics, allowing the Department of Athletics to support $3 million in athletic upgrades and construction. Dwight T. Reed Stadium received significant renovations, including the installation of a synthetic turf field, a resurfaced track, new LED lighting, and a video scoreboard, during the summer of 2017. Moseley worked to secure funding for a brand new basketball court in Jason Gym in 2019, and Lincoln’s softball program began play in a new complex, complete with a brand-new scoreboard, in the spring of 2017. New locker rooms and offices spaces have also been constructed for LU football and men’s & women’s track during Moseley’s tenure leading the athletic department. In the summer of 2015, Moseley oversaw the development of the Blue Tiger Athletics Club, the university’s booster organization. Membership during the initial year was 157, and has increased each year, with 178 members in 2016-17, 264 in 2017-18 and more than 335 in 2018-19. The Blue Tiger Athletics Club has contributed over $70,000 towards the purchase of weight room equipment for Lincoln’s student-athletes. Lincoln’s student-athletes have increased their academic performance during Moseley’s time as the Director of Athletics, with 76 Blue Tiger student-athletes being named to the MIAA’s Academic Honor Roll for earning a 3.0 or better GPA during the 2018-19 school year, and four athletes earning Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-American accolades. Moseley developed the Blue Tiger Awards Show to recognize the academic and athletic accomplishments of LU student-athletes. In addition, he began the tradition of graduates receiving sashes to denote their experience as Blue Tiger student-athletes. During Moseley’s tenure as the director of athletics, Lincoln has won three NCAA Division II national championships (women’s indoor track & field, 2016 & women’s outdoor track & field, 2018 & 2019) and six of LU’s 12 athletic programs have qualified for postseason competition. An active member of the Jefferson City community, Moseley has also successfully grown the athletic department’s corporate sponsors, beginning partnerships with Chick-Fil-A, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Legends Bank and Capital Region Medical Center, among others. Moseley has been active in organizations at the national, state, and local levels, and is currently a member of NACDA, D2 ADA, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the Jefferson City Evening Lions, and the JC CVB’s Athletic Events Committee. Moseley is in his second year of representing the MIAA on the NCAA D2 Men’s Basketball Committee and has also served on several MIAA task forces. LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2021 SOFTBALL MEDIA GUIDE

A long-time Blue Tiger, Betty Kemna begins her sixth season as Lincoln University’s Senior Women’s Administrator in 2020-21. Lincoln’s Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, Kemna handles all of the NCAA compliance matters for each of LU’s 11 Division II programs and is also the advisor for Lincoln’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Kemna spent the previous six years as Lincoln’s athletic director. During that span, Kemna implemented many internal changes within the program, including adding a corporate sponsorship program, beginning a department Hall of Fame and creating several new staff positions to improve the overall gameday experience. Kemna became Lincoln’s athletic director on July 1, 2009, after serving as assistant athletic director for compliance for the previous four years. Kemna was no stranger to Lincoln before then, however, as she was a softball player for the Blue Tigers prior to becoming LU’s head softball coach/concession coordinator in 1997.

Betty Kemna

Asst. Athletic Director for Compliance/SWA

In 1999, Kemna took on additional duties as the department’s Senior Women’s Administrator, and was named the compliance coordinator in 2003. Kemna completely turned around the compliance department, leading the institution through a five-year probation period that was a result of violations prior to her appointment. In 2005, she was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. During the 2007-2008 academic year she served as Interim Athletic Director while still conducting her duties as Assistant AD for Compliance. Kemna also oversaw many improvements to the athletic program, including the institution of live internet streaming of Lincoln sporting events and improving the facilities. Kemna also worked with the Blue Tiger Quarterback Club to add a state-of-the-art weight room, giving Lincoln’s athletes two such facilities on campus. A 1996 graduate of Lincoln University, Kemna has a Bachelor of Science in Education. She also earned a master’s in education in athletic administration from William Woods University in 2006.

Tim Abney, who entered the Lincoln University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017, is a true Blue Tiger in every sense of the word. Entering his fifth year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Administration, Abney graduated from LU with a business degree in 1978 and has spent most of his professional career as a coach or administrator at Lincoln University. As the coach of Lincoln’s tennis program for seven years, Abney’s athletes were stellar in the classroom, with more than half of his players earning All-MIAA academic honors. A true believer in the importance of a college education, Abney concurrently served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics at Lincoln. Abney served as an advisor and coordinator for each of Lincoln’s student-athletes, and in the fall of 2015, over 120 Blue Tigers made the Dean’s List.

Tim Abney

A former star basketball player at LU, Abney helped lead the Blue Tigers to its best four-year stretch in history. From 1974-1978, Abney was a member of Lincoln teams that won 83 games and two MIAA regular season championships. During his senior season, Lincoln advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament and came within two points of earning a berth in the Final Four. During the 1975-76 campaign, Abney was a part of a team that totaled 1,458 rebounds, which still stands as the Lincoln single-season record. Following the 1976-77 and 1977-78 seasons, Abney was named to the All-MIAA basketball teams.

Asst. Athletic Director for Administration

Abney also formerly served as Lincoln’s women’s basketball coach for 10 seasons, including in 2008-09 when he also began his tenure as the tennis coach. Under Abney’s guidance, Lincoln won 72 games, making him the second-winningest coach in program history behind the legendary Leo Lewis. Abney joins Lewis as one of just two coaches in LU history to lead the women’s basketball program to four-consecutive seasons with 10 or more wins, accomplishing the feat by winning 45 games between 2001 and 2005. In 2002-03, Abney was named the Heartland Conference Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. Abney is originally from Kansas City, Mo. He and his wife, Diane, have three children: Darrell, Dannon and DeAndrea.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2021 SOFTBALL MEDIA GUIDE

Since 2003, few teams in any sport have achieved the level of success enjoyed by the Lincoln women’s track & field team. The Blue Tigers continued the dynasty in May of 2019, when Lincoln won its second-straight NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field national title. Winners of 14 total national championships over the past 16 years, including five-straight NCAA Division II outdoor titles from 2003-2007, the Blue Tiger track & field program was honored in 2013 by being inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Lincoln has established itself as one of the top track & field programs in all of NCAA Division II, with the men's team posting top-10 finishes in the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Both the LU men and women won MIAA titles in indoor track & Field in 2016, with the men taking the title during the 2017 outdoor season en route to finishing as the national runner-up at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Before the 2019-20 season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lincoln men's indoor track & field team was ranked No. 1 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division II rankings. The Lincoln men's golf team has also experienced the feeling of winning a championship recently, as the Blue Tigers have won seven PGA Minority Collegiate National Championship Division II tournaments. An annual golf tournament sponsored by the PGA and open to all HBCU men's golf programs, Lincoln posted wire-to-wire victories at the championship in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, Blake Lammers continued the tradition by becoming the individual champion at the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship. In 2016, Lammers also was the individual titleist at the MIAA Championships and became the first Blue Tiger to qualify for the NCAA regional since current coach Aaron Murphy accomplished the feat in 2009. Over the past nine years, 10 Lincoln athletic programs have qualified for some form of postseason competition. In 2011-12, the LU women's basketball team came within eight points of playing in the MIAA tournament championship game. In 2013, Twishana Williams became the only female runner in the MIAA to earn All-American honors. The men's basketball program has made the postseason in each of the past five years while Ryan Brown won the indoor national championship in the triple jump in March of 2019.

The women's track & field team won its 14th national championship in May of 2019. 54

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2021 SOFTBALL MEDIA GUIDE

History of Lincoln University At the close of the Civil War, soldiers and officers of the 62nd United States Colored Infantry, stationed at Fort McIntosh, Texas, but composed primarily of Missourians, took steps to establish an educational institution in Jefferson City, Missouri, which they named Lincoln Institute. The following stipulations were set for the school: 1. The institution shall be designed for the special benefit of the freed African-Americans; 2. It shall be located in the state of Missouri; 3. Its fundamental idea shall be to combine study and labor. Members of the 62nd Colored Infantry contributed $5,000; this was supplemented by approximately $1,400, given by the 65th Colored Infantry. On January 14, 1866, Lincoln Institute was formally established under an organization committee. By June of the same year, it incorporated and the committee became a Board of Trustees. Richard Baxter Foster, a former first lieutenant in the 62nd Infantry, was named first principal of Lincoln Institute. On September 17, 1866, the school opened its doors to the first class in an old frame building in Jefferson City. In 1869, Lincoln Institute moved to the present campus, and in 1870 it began to receive aid from the state of Missouri for teacher training. College-level work was added to the curriculum in 1877, and passage of the Normal School Law permitted Lincoln graduates to teach for life in Missouri without further examination. Lincoln Institute formally became a state institution in 1879 with the deeding of the property to the state. Under the second Morrill Act of 1890, Lincoln became a land grant institution, and the following year industrial and agricultural courses were added to the curriculum. In 1921, the Missouri Legislature passed a bill introduced by Walthall M. Moore, the first black American to serve in that body, which changed the name from Lincoln Institute to Lincoln University and created a Board of Curators to govern the University. The North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools accredited the high school division in 1925, the teacher-training program in 1926, and the four-year college of arts and sciences in 1934. Graduate instruction was begun in the summer session of 1940, with majors in education and history and minors in English, history, and sociology. A School of Journalism was established in February 1942. In 1954, the United States Supreme Court handed down its ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, and Lincoln University responded by opening its doors to all applicably meeting its entrance criteria. Today, Lincoln University serves a diverse clientele, both residential and non-residential, engages in a variety of research projects, and offers numerous public service programs in addition to providing an array of academic programs.
