Daddy's Girl
As a self-proclaimed "Daddy's Girl," I love celebrating the presence of the father figures in my life. One of my favorite past-times is to take my children shopping for my husband and my dad's Father's Day gifts. However, all the material things I buy will never compare to their gifts of quality time, encouraging words, and positive actions which have had a long-lasting impact on their children.
I am truly blessed to have an amazing father who has continuously supported and inspired me throughout my life. Although he may be small in stature, he has the biggest heart I've ever known. My dad, better known nowadays as "Papa Carl," is the kindest soul with the most gentle laugh and best hugs. I am one lucky girl to call him my dad.
The bar was set high by my father but my husband has put up a good fight for the title of "World's Best Dad." I am grateful that my children have also grown up with a caring and loving father figure who not only stepped in when he didn't have to, but stepped up when we needed him most. Ten years ago he stood at the altar next to me and my girls and vowed not only to love me but to love them, forever. A year later we began the parental journey together a final time when we welcomed our son into the world. I could not have asked for a better father for all three of our children. Our Full House is truly one of a kind.
Let your father or a father figure in your life know how much he matters to you. And if you are a dad, let me be the first to say — thank you. You are invaluable to the people who know and need you as well as the community around you. Happy Father’s Day!
Allen City Lifestyle also wishes to acknowledge the tragedy that rocked our community last month. We offer our condolences to the family and friends of those whose lives were senselessly lost on May 6. We are thankful for our first responders who sprung into action without hesitation. In the wake of a horrific attack on our home, we have come together to love and support one another. Allen is stronger together.

MEMRO music
Ron Jones’s vibrant 50-year journey with music started at age six. “My dad was a pastor. We had an organ in the home that neither of my older siblings played. I’m the baby of the family, and my dad was determined that somebody was going to play that organ for his church. Since I was the last one left, I started taking lessons and I’ve been playing ever since.”
Jones doesn’t resent the parental pressure. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. “I praise my dad every chance I get for making me play.”
Jones is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education.
Music has always been a part of his journey. A proud veteran, Ron served in the Army as a commissioned officer flying UH-1 helicopters. While in the service, he played piano for military base church services. After an accident he miraculously survived during which the engine blew out of the helicopter he was flying, he returned to his hometown of Memphis, TN.
It was there that a very influential person in his life encouraged him to become a music educator. He first taught in Memphis City Schools then later moved to the Dallas area where he’s taught for over 20 years.

Ron with his idol, Stevie Wonder
MASTER BLASTER
Jones’s idol growing up was Stevie Wonder. So just imagine his sheer joy when he was invited to play the piano for Stevie Wonder when he was singing at a local relative’s memorial service that just so happened to be held at the church Jones attends. They played “Falling in Love with Jesus.” “He pulled out the harmonica and everything!” says Jones, “It was absolutely amazing.”
DREAM COME TRUE
Two years ago, Jones started his own business, Memro Music (a clever combination of his hometown and his first name), full-time. “It’s always been a dream of mine to own my own school and use the gifts that God has given me to pour into others.”
He loves the side of his work that provides him the opportunity to help students to receive music scholarships to college.
It may surprise you to learn, however, that half of his clients are adults. “Many adults regret quitting when they were younger,” says Jones. “They’ve always wanted to start up again.”
He enthusiastically notes that playing the piano has many benefits for adults. It requires using both sides of the brain, which improves cognitive function, memory, and concentration. “That’s why most musicians don’t suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s,” he explains.
For children, studies have shown that taking music lessons helps them to perform better academically, particularly in math and reading.
MUSIC TALK
Jones has a unique approach to teaching. “Most music teachers teach with a book, I teach my students to use their ears,” says Jones. Once they’ve learned the basics, he starts them off with playing songs they like and hear every day. “Because they’re playing songs they want to play rather than songs they’ve never heard before, they remain interested.”
Being an educator has given Jones a connection with students that allows him to understand how they think and operate. “I take pride in my students learning so quickly and well,” he says, “I try to keep them not only motivated, but interested in what they’re playing.”
Jones lives by the lyrics of his idol Stevie Wonder’s songs: "If you're feelin' what you hearing, well, don't you know, it's just the music, that friendly music talking to your soul. It can make you blue or make you feel so glad, oh it's the best way of talking that man has ever had.”

Bros Who Brunch
The word “brunch” was first used in the publication, 'Hunter's Weekly' by Guy Beringer in 1895. Beringer felt tired after long, large traditional post-church meals and suggested possibly something lighter. He wrote the article “Brunch: A Plea” in which he argued for a meal between the regular times of breakfast and lunch on Sundays that would connect people to each other.
Wherever the initial spark of genius came from, the tradition caught on in the United States in the 1930s, supposedly because Hollywood stars making transcontinental train trips frequently stopped off in Chicago to enjoy a late morning meal. According to Grubhub.com's article "The History of Brunch," the biggest push came during a massive moment of progress for women in America. When women entered the workforce, they needed a break from cooking and pushed the family to start going out for a meal on the day they would generally sit around the table as a family – Sunday.
The year's biggest brunch holiday is Mother's Day. The National Restaurant Association reported that 92 million Americans dined out last Mother's Day: one-quarter of them went to brunch.
But it's not just a meal, it's kind of a feeling. Weekend mornings can be a special time to relax, see friends, and catch up on the events of the week. Brunch is the perfect time to get a crew together and enjoy a meal and some great conversation. It's generally eaten mid- or late morning, so it can't be done on a normal working day. One must take time off from one's usual schedule in order to eat brunch.
So why do men typically not share the same admiration for the weekly tradition? Well, some do!
Sunday Funday has become a weekly practice for my husband and his buddies. Each Sunday they gather at one of their homes mid-morning to kickstart the week ahead. It is a chance to unwind and forget about the stress of the everyday grind. The group may play a hand of poker, take a dip in the pool or even partake in a round of golf, then they share a few laughs in the kitchen or around the grill while swapping their favorite recipes. The sun is shining, the smoker is lit and the fellas have gathered to talk shop and chow down.
A January 2023 blog on Opt Health dove deeper into the benefits of men spending quality time with their counterparts and the role male support networks play in men's mental health. They discovered that male friendships are an essential but often overlooked aspect of men’s mental health. Research has shown that having close friendships with other men can provide a sense of belonging, support, and purpose, which can help men to cope with stress, anxiety, and depression.
Brunch has historically been aligned with high society, big hats and breakfast entrees. However, these societal norms are growing stale and a new wave of brunch goers and doers is on the rise. The best part is that there are no set rules! Whether you gather the family and visit a local hot spot or create your own brunch tradition with your besties, brunch is best served with a side of fun.
I want to say a special thank you to my husband and his brunch buddies for allowing us a glimpse into their coveted "Bro Time." The food is always delicious and the company can't be beat. I hope you enjoy some of their favorite menu items next time you decide to have a Sunday Funday of your own.

PULLED PORK SLIDERS
INGREDIENTS
• 8 - 10 lbs pork butt
• 5 tablespoons of canola oil or yellow mustard
• Kosher salt, cracked black pepper and favorite dry rub. This version used carnitas, Ragin Cajun and Angelo’s pork seasoning equally. John Henry’s, Salt Lick, and especially Grub Rub are also great pork rubs. Make your own with 2 tablespoons each of sugar, dark brown sugar, paprika, coarse salt, cracked black pepper and garlic powder, 1 tablespoon each of onion powder, ground chipotle chili, adobo or cayenne powder and guajillo chile, and 1 ½ tsp each of ground cumin and dry mustard. Experiment and sub ingredients and portions for preference.
DIRECTIONS
1. Set up your smoker for temperature of 225 - 250°. Use chunks of pecan or apple, hickory and mesquite are too harsh for long pork smoking.
2. Prep your pork butt using oil or mustard as a binder and liberally coat with dry rub.
3. Place your pork on the smoker, spritzing every hour with apple cider vinegar and/or apple juice. Apply more dry rub once more halfway through until you wrap it. About 4 hours total initial smoke.
4. Once you hit the stall and you like the bark, wrap it in butcher paper or tin foil with an additional ½ cup apple juice.
5. Continue smoking until you get to an internal temp of 205°.
6. Remove and let rest for 30 minutes.
7. Shred and serve while hot.
8. Serve with warm slider buns of choice, pickles, sliced onion, pickled Fresno or jalapeño peppers and Carolina BBQ sauce.
RYE NOT
INGREDIENTS
• 1 ½ oz Still Austin Rye
• ½ oz Paula’s Orange Liquor
• ½ oz Aperol
• ½ Amaro Nonino
• ¼ oz simple syrup
DIRECTIONS
1. Combine over ice in cocktail carafe and stir.
2. Strain into rocks or double old fashioned glass over a large ice cube and garnish with dehydrated lime.
3. Dehydrated lime: slice a fresh lime in 1/8 inch rounds and place on a heavy cookie sheet (rack lined optional) heat at 225° until desired color is achieved, which may take a couple of hours. This may also be done in a dehydrator, sourced online or store bought.

First Responder of the Month
Benny Bolin is a 1975 graduate of Allen High School and one of five generations of Allendwelling Bolins, including Benny's paternal grandparents, Luther and Anna Mae Bolin, for whom Bolin Elementary is named.
Today Benny, whose family donated the land on which Bolin Elementary was built, is still proud to be an Eagle and spends his days caring for the thousands of students who attend the high school each day.
After graduating from Baylor University, he earned his EMT certification through Baylor Hospital in Dallas where he went on to work as a tech until his supervisor convinced him to become a nurse. He has been a nurse for the past 41 years. He served on the Allen ISD School Board from 2006 to 2012. In 2007, when his son was a baritone player, he began working as the AHS Escadrille nurse and went on to serve as a nurse at AHS starting in 2013.
Much has changed since Benny was a student. He notes, "We see everything at this school. With 5,200 students and 500 staff, we are larger than many towns in Texas. We see so many different and challenging issues it is sometimes hard to keep up."
But Benny rises to meet the challenge. For him, the most rewarding part of the job is "Helping students and staff who are truly in need of medical assistance."

As founder and CEO of Phillips Home Improvements, he doesn’t just improve homes – he improves just about everything he encounters.
In the early 90s, Jason was working for a painting company and saw countless injustices in the home improvement industry.
“Homeowners were getting short changed – they weren’t getting the service, the warranty, the followthrough they needed from companies. I saw immigrants mistreated and not paid. I saw people like me not being paid.”
As the company Jason worked for declined, he considered his next move and realized he knew the answer: “I needed to raise the bar and improve things in the home improvement industry.”
And that’s precisely what Jason has spent the past two decades doing.
He started by knocking on doors, offering top-notch services and treating his customers and employees right.
And business grew.
Initially, he only offered painting services, but, in classic Jason Phillips fashion, he identified another area in need of improvement.
He was noticing a trend: the homeowners who hired him to paint their homes’ exteriors often needed new gutters as well. The
problem? Now the homeowners needed carpenters to fix the fascia board and installers for the gutters – in other words, delays for homeowners, Jason, and his crew.
So Jason made another improvement.
He contacted gutter manufacturers, purchased the appropriate equipment, and hired professionals to teach his team how to install gutters properly.
The natural progression from installing gutters was to replacing roofs, so Jason and his team learned how to do that as well.
But there were still more improvements needed.
As business grew, Jason found himself in a predicament familiar to many contractors and small business owners – yes, he was making more money, but he was losing time with loved ones. Instead of finding freedom in owning his own business, his business had him in bondage. He came home countless nights to his family sound asleep and dinner waiting in the microwave.
Jason was a captive of what he calls “Contractor Prison.”
One late night, as he toiled away, Harry Chapin’s “Cat’s in the Cradle” came on. Jason says, “That song just ripped my heart out. I made a decision that night that I was going to do things differently.”
And he did.

“Through the years, what’s really changed is we’ve developed our focus on people – not just on our clients, but on building our team. A lot of companies treat people like numbers. They use people up, burn them up, grind them down to build their business. Our philosophy is different. I believe that I can build the people who will build the business, and I think everybody wins that way.”
Phillips Home Improvements is, in Jason’s words, “A people development company. We’ve got the home improvements down. The more we can build people on the inside, the more we can help people on the outside.”
The improvements Jason vowed to make have yielded remarkable results.
In 2019, the team received the “Torch Award for Ethics in Business” from the Better Business Bureau. Last year, they received one of Dallas Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” awards. Last month Jason was named the “District 2023 Small Businessperson of the Year” by the U.S. Small Business Administration Dallas/Fort Worth office.
As if Jason’s improvements to the industry, his customers’ homes, and his employees’ lives weren’t enough, Jason is passionate about helping others escape the prison that once held him captive.

Jason Phillips Rollerman and a happy homeowner!
Jason sees developing leadership skills as integral to escape, and it’s much of what he shares with other contractors and small business owners who are trying to make their own great escapes. He’s a Certified Human Behavior Consultant and believes understanding yourself and others is transformational.
“I teach others that if they want to escape contractor prison and step into contractor freedom, the first thing they need to do is grow as a leader. When you grow as a leader, you can build a team of people – nobody did anything great by themselves. When you can delegate and have the right people on your team, everybody gets to work in their unique abilities. Everybody gets to grow, and you can do more together.”
The team at Phillips Home Improvements has a lot more they plan to do together.
Their goal is to be the premier home improvement company in the state of Texas.
“We want to be the premier because we really value homeowners, we value teamwork, we value people. And when we value people, we’re going to take care of your property, we’re going to honor your time, and we’re going to work ethically.”

GOOD HUMANS DOING GREAT THINGS
MATTHEW FOSTER
ARTICLE BY ANGI BURNS PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Margaret J. Wheatley once said, "There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about."
Born into a military family, Matthew Foster moved around the first five years of his life before his family settled in New Braunfels, Texas. The events of September 11, 2001 fundamentally changed Matthew’s outlook on life. As he watched the World Trade Center fall, he knew he was called to serve his country. After graduating, he joined the United States Army. As a member of the 101st Airborne Division, he deployed to Iraq in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his deployment, Matthew earned several awards and decorations for his service. He was honorably discharged shortly after returning from Iraq and moved back to Texas.
He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies, with a focus on public policy. He then graduated from UTA's Masters of Public Administration program in 2014 with certificates in public budgeting and taxation as well as nonprofit management. He served as an advisor on economic, education and veteran issues for several Texas congressional leaders and state representatives. He currently works as a Regional Director of External & Legislative Affairs for AT&T. He belongs to legislative work session study groups, public policy committees and policy think tank organizations.
MATTHEW FOSTER
Matthew was appointed to the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veteran Assistance Advisory Committee from 2012-2014 and served as vice chair in 2014. He helped direct over $23.8 million in grants benefiting over 150,000 Texas Veterans. He was the 2018 Distinguished Recent Graduate of UTA, served as Chairman of the Dallas/Fort Worth USO Board, and on YMCA boards of Grand Prairie and Plano, as well as many chamber of commerce boards.
His quest to serve fellow veterans led to his involvement with many local organizations, and he recently helped bring the PGA Helping Our Patriots Everywhere (HOPE) program to the Courses at Watters Creek. PGA HOPE is the flagship military program of PGA REACH and introduces golf to veterans and active duty military to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The six-week program is led by PGA professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency. All programs are funded by PGA REACH and supplemented by PGA Section Foundations, so programming is free to all veterans.
Matthew’s love for the community and public policy is trumped by only thing, his love for family. Matthew married his wife in 2005, just one month before his deployment.

FRANCHISE EXPERT RUDY FREDERICO DISPELS COMMON MYTHS ABOUT FRANCHISING
FRANCHISING AIN’T…
Today’s economy has many people looking for new ways to increase their income. Some are seeking a new course while others are looking to supplement their current income. Others are looking to build a legacy for their family. Franchising is one strategy that can help. However, there are several misconceptions surrounding franchising that keep buyers from seriously considering an investment in a franchise. Information is knowledge and knowledge is power. If you want the power to change the course of your life, here is the information you need.
There are more than 4,000 franchised concepts out there. So where do you start?

FRANCHISING AIN’T JUST FAST FOOD
Many people considering a franchise believe these opportunities are all in the quick service restaurant (QSR) space. We all know about McDonald’s and Subway as famous franchise brands. And there are many good QSR concepts in the food and beverage industry. But franchising is more than just fast food. In fact, food and beverage is less than one-third of all franchises. Franchising also offers opportunities in automotive care and repair, income tax services, health and wellness services, beauty and personal care businesses, landscaping services, real estate and property management services, and so much more. Did you know you could sell and service electric wheelchairs and motorized scooters as a franchised business? How about assisted stretch, gallery and paint classes, or appliance repair? You can even own a business that makes miniature statues of your customers. There are more than 4,000 franchised concepts out there. So where do you start?
FRANCHISING AIN’T FINANCIALLY OUT OF REACH
I hear time and again, “I don’t have the money needed to buy a franchise.” In reality, none of us keep enough money in our checking account to start a business. So where do you turn? Turn to a professional that knows how to help you leverage funds you have in other places. Home equity, investment portfolios and retirement funds can be leveraged in many ways with minimal risk and partnered with lending programs that are designed to put you in business. Again, it’s about resources and knowing where to turn.
FRANCHISING AIN’T COMPLICATED
While there are hundreds of franchised concepts out there, they are mostly structured the same way. There are common threads woven into the fabric of franchising that make most of these business opportunities similar enough to compare and contrast them and allow you to make an informed decision. The fact of the matter is, franchising makes business ownership easier by providing a blueprint to follow. Franchises help with business structure, financing, real estate (when applicable), marketing and direction on how to operate the business. If you have the desire, franchisors have the plan, and together you can change the course of your life.
At the end of the day, it’s about resources. Resources like an experienced franchise consultant or broker can walk you through the identification of brands that best fit your circumstances, educate you on how to review and research companies and point you toward other resources like legal council and funding sources to help you achieve your entrepreneurial dreams. Consultations are free. The results can be priceless.

Creek and Timber Legacy
Veterans Dustin Paine and Shannon Cagle love to fish and hunt. Being in the outdoors brings a renewed sense of energy and emotional well-being, especially to veterans and first responders. Paine and Cagle have experienced firsthand the sense of camaraderie and community that outdoor adventures provide. In 2019, they asked themselves, “How can we help others do what we’re doing?” And that’s how Creek and Timber Legacy came to be.

The two friends founded the nonprofit organization to provide the therapeutic benefits of the outdoors to first responders and veterans who may feel isolated or disconnected after their service. And after just a few short years, the organization is taking off.
They recently expanded to two new locations started by veterans who were participants on the same excursion together. Like so many others, they thoroughly enjoyed the experience: laughing, bonding, and opening up about their time in service with other like-minded individuals. They, too, asked themselves, “How can we give back? We would love to do this where we live.” They are now Presidents of the Colorado Division and Pennsylvania Division.

“It can be hard on veterans when they get out of the military,” says Chief Operations Officer Jennifer Brooks. “They really struggle when they lose that connection.” Many veterans have a hard time talking about their experiences. “Once they get back around their people they really start opening up,” says Brooks.
Creek and Timber adventures provide fellowship, healing, and continued support. “If we discover that a participant has other needs, we open up to our veteran networks to get them support with anything from resume writing to job hunting to dealing with VA issues. We make sure they’re taken care of in whatever way they need,” says Brooks.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR CREEK AND TIMBER LEGACY?
Their goal is to obtain land in multiple locations with accessible lodges, hunting blinds and transportation to accommodate persons with special needs. “We’re currently accepting not just monetary contributions, but also items that can be used on the excursions like food, supplies, and volunteer fishing and hunting guides, as well as land or hunting lease donations,” says Chief Development Officer Ashley Furr. Your donation goes directly to providing veterans, first responders, and families of the fallen with the opportunity to experience the healing powers of the outdoors.
By providing opportunities for outdoor adventures, Creek and Timber is helping veterans and first responders find new ways to connect with each other and the world around them and to find a sense of purpose and fulfillment after their service.

HOME ON THE RANCH
ARTICLE BY ERIC HOYLE

Eric Hoyle Reflects on Two Decades at Heritage Ranch
Heritage Ranch. Those words evoke countless thoughts and memories around our community. Thoughts of golf, food, and fun. Memories of events and unforgettable experiences. I’m blessed to have called Heritage Ranch my place of employment for the last 18 years. Whether it’s entering the gate to explore 575 acres of rolling terrain, wooded areas, and scenic ponds or driving up to the 24,000 square foot clubhouse, Heritage Ranch provides an escape from your troubles without sacrificing the finer things.

Eric Hoyle
I’ve held many different positions at Heritage Ranch since July of 2005. I’ve done everything except cut a blade of grass — and using a golf club doesn’t count! I began as a bartender in the Corral Grill, was promoted to assistant manager, and eventually assumed the role of assistant food and beverage director.
But on a day in July of 2008, my life changed forever.
My boss, General Manager Tony Trevino, asked if I was interested in running activities for Heritage Ranch. Before that day, I
had seen what the homeowners in our community did on a regular basis, but only from the food and beverage side. I had zero experience in planning and executing activities.
I saw Tony’s offer as a challenge and accepted. We then set about defining my role. Tony didn’t just want me to run all of the activities, he also wanted me to take charge of promoting Heritage Ranch to the surrounding community. And so, the title “Community Events Director” was born.

I assumed my new role in August of 2008. It seems like it was just yesterday, but it was almost 15 years ago. A lot can happen in 15 years. You can be married, divorced, and married again! You can have amazing people come into your life and leave it.
Heritage Ranch has been a constant.
No matter what, I know I get to spend my days in our clubhouse. I spend my days surrounded by our incredible community — everyone from our servers to our homeowners to those visiting for the day. I spend my days planning activities and events for our homeowners and folks in the community to enjoy.
Heritage Ranch is an active adult community. We take immense pride in promoting that lifestyle. To live here, at least one person in the household needs to be 55 or over. We also have up to 114 homes that a person between the ages of 50-54 can occupy. When you move to Heritage Ranch, you are joining a community of people that dance and sing, play pickleball, tennis, golf, billiards, table tennis, card games, and more. And that's just a Monday!
My role is to ensure our homeowners never grow bored. I’m confident I accomplish that daily! Our homeowners have access to concerts, dances, trivia nights, and Bingo on a monthly basis. We also support resident-driven performance groups such as the HR Chorale, Theatre Guild, and the Variety Show that allow our residents to showcase their artistic skills.
In addition to all of these activities, homeowners look forward to our annual Heritage Ranch Games. For two weeks, the competitive juices flow. If you thought two teams vying for the Super Bowl or World Series would keep you on the edge of your seat, you won’t believe the thrill of bocce or cornhole matches in our annual HR Games! The competition to take home that blue first place ribbon is real!
I love the fun I have creating opportunities for others to have fun too.
It’s been said that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. At Heritage Ranch, I’m truly blessed to be able to live out that motto every day.

Men of Influence
On Wednesday, April 12, the Allen Americans took on the Kansas City Mavericks at Credit Union of Texas Event Center. Allen City Lifestyle hosted our gentlemen advertising partners and leaders from our community in a suite and enjoyed a time of fun, laughter, and great conversations about the influential men in our lives. The guys also gathered on the ice for a photo following the game.
When asked about the men who have inspired and shaped them, many of the gentlemen in attendance reflected on strong, hard working fathers who molded and guided them, instilling their sons with their values, faith, and strong work ethic. Others shared about influential friends, mentors, and former employers who, in one way or another, influenced them to become the men they are today.
The men who attended represent some of the best in our community. They are men who exemplify what it means to work hard, treat others with kindness and respect, and give back to the community generously. Allen City Lifestyle is proud to partner with the best of the best in our community.

Student of the Month
ELI HERBANE
ARTICLE BY ALISA HAUSER
Happy 18th Birthday, Eli! Eli Herbane recently graduated from Allen High School. He was born with Down syndrome and has been part of the Allen ISD Special Education program since he was three years old.
“He’s had incredibly amazing teachers every step of the way,” says his mom, Aster. “He’s come so far and it’s such a blessing.”
As a single mom, it can be a struggle at times to juggle it all, but Eli’s mom says coming home to his joyfulness at the end of the day makes it all worth it. “He’s such fun to be with! He’ll take my hand and twirl me around in the aisles at the grocery store. He makes me forget all the stress.”
Caring, sweet, and thoughtful, Eli lovingly cares for his mom and his brother. “He makes my coffee every morning and empties the dishwasher every evening,” says his mom. “When we’re somewhere and someone gives him something – like a lollipop at the doctor – he always asks for one for his brother, too.”
Recently, the Allen Americans Hockey Team sponsored Eli through the 2023 Allen Eagle “Adopt a Senior” program. Eli was chosen as Player for the Day. In participating, he signed a contract, received an autographed game jersey, and watched the team practice. “Eli’s hard work, determination, and strength make him the perfect teammate,” says Ana Gonzalez, VP of Social Impact. “We’re honored to have him on our squad!”
What’s Next for Eli? He’s going to continue at Allen High School in the 18+ program, a 2-year program that prepares special needs students for the workforce. Eli likes science and organizing things. Without doubt, Eli’s attention to detail and willingness to always lend a helping hand will be appreciated in whatever career path he chooses, and he’ll be a welcomed team member wherever he goes.
What He’s Watching: The original "Barney" series (Did you know it was filmed here in Allen in the current Dinosaur Company building?!).
Who He’s Following: Equally obsessed with rice, dinosaurs, and elephants, Eli enjoys watching explorer adventurers who make documentaries about dinosaurs and elephants on YouTube.
