Concept:

Design Direction:

A creative directory that celebrates the 2011 graduating year of BA (Hons) Graphic Design; forty-four new & individual designers entering the creative industry as professionals. The publication functions both as a showcase of work & as a collectable directory for years to come.

The focus dictates clarity & legibility. The use of small scale imagery will demonstrate a relaxed look within a fixed format & showcase forty-four professionals work equally with immediacy This will also provide the publication with a consistent design direction throughout & digress from standardised monotony.

Tone: The resolution to this brief will be informative, creative & conceptually aware. There will be a focus toward the projection of forty-four professionals, as opposed to forty-four graduates.

The white container holding the publication information will function as a removable sticker. This ensures that all forty-four graduates have work featured on the cover, whilst the publication information will still be available on the spine and inside pages.

Production Specification:

A twelve column grid allows for a dynamic array of layout possibilities & offers a contingency if a designers work is to a certain size or dimension.

Dimensions: 210 x 210mm.

Industry input will feature periodically in order to give the publication a sense of pace & narrative. A sans-serif will be used to differentiate between industry work/quotations & those of the BA (Hons) Graphic Design course. The translucent quality of the stock will subtly hint to the reader what is on the next page & provide an interactive layering quality. This will make the publication engaging & encourage the reader to keep turning the pages.

The Range & Other Possibilities: The use of the ‘Forty4’ brand will assist in visual coherence across a range of print & web-based media. This will include a promotional website that showcases graduate work to a fuller extent than the yearbook itself. The site will also link out to individual graduate websites as well as industry professionals who contributed to the completion of the publication. Furthermore, the website could potentially be updated with up-to-date news, new work & new contact details over the duration of the subsequent academic year. As an extension from the publication, this will ensure that the available information will never be out of date & the work will be accessible.
