Right Brain Curriculum Public Speaking February Break Program $290 Resident • $300 Non-Resident

Interactive Circuitry and Coding for Kids In this hands-on class, we explore Scratch programming, using the MIT-developed programming interface to craft stories and games. Then we will use Makey to invent new ways to interact with the Scratch projects using everyday objects! Our circuitry projects will become musical instruments, video game controllers, pressure sensors, and more. Students will learn valuable 21st-century skills while engaging in these fun, creative lessons. Collaborative project challenges enhance teamwork skills and inspire critical thinking. No prior programming experience required.

Famously, Americans' number one fear is public speaking while death only ranks number two. If that's so, this profound fear probably starts at an early age. In our Public Speaking class, we take the fear out of speaking before an audience by getting kids talking in front of a supportive group about things in which they are interested. They write speeches on subjects of their choice and practice delivering them to the assembled students. As the kids practice in this low-pressure environment, they learn skills like standing up tall, using a loud voice, and making eye contact. We also watch famous and not-so-famous public speakers and critique what is successful and unsuccessful in their deliveries. The class concludes with students creating a TV news broadcast in which they serve as anchors.

Adult Fitness Classes Forever Fit with Judy Whitney–No Registration Fee

This program is funded by a generous grant from the Dana Home Foundation. Being out of shape can mean different things at different ages. As we get older and muscle loss accelerates, we may begin to notice “we can’t do what we used to do”. If you are finding you have difficulty bending, walking upstairs, carrying groceries, or are experiencing weight gain, overall fatigue or just slowing down and would like to improve your physical condition, we can help you. The Forever Fit program will help you develop strength, improve balance, increase flexibility and agility, build endurance, and reduce stress. There are three components to this program: individual assessments, group instruction and working one-toone with an expert Personal Trainer who is skilled in determining the best way to achieve mutually agreed upon goals. We use a variety of fitness disciplines and exercise modifications to empower you to succeed at your appropriate fitness level because getting back in shape can happen at any age! Over the past eight years, the Dana Home Foundation has generously offered this program to empower their senior citizens to learn how to become stronger, healthier and more physically fit. This grant has been renewed again due to the

recent successes of its participants. The program is free to Lexington residents over the age of 60. We urge you to seriously consider accepting this gift of wellness to empower you to be Forever Fit! Classes are Monday and Wednesday at 2:15 pm. One to one sessions will be by appointment only. Register to attend an information meeting on January 22 at 2:30 pm at the Lexington Community Center. Forever Fit Class Registration will open after the meeting.
