Right Brain Curriculum – Lego Adventures: Get Your Lego Game On!

$275 Resident • $285 Non-Resident

Are you a Lego master? If so, it’s time to show off your skills! Each week in Lego Adventures, there is a new challenge to build: From skyscrapers to farms, bridges to airports, space stations to main streets, and everything in between! First, our Right Brain Curriculum instructors will review the history of what we are about to build: How airports graduated from landing strips to vast travel networks, how Depression-era farms survived hordes of grasshoppers, how aeroelasticity explains why the Tacoma bridge nicknamed “Galloping Gertie” collapsed. Then, it’s time to build! You will create a model of each type of structure out of an enormous assortment of provided Legos, then present your creation as we photograph and document it. Learning and Legos: A perfect match!

Right Brain Curriculum — Lego Mathematics: Legos Make Math More Fun!

$275 Resident • $285 Non-Resident

Put away those workbooks, let’s learn math with Legos! Each week you will be tasked with a Lego project to build – from mansions to skyscrapers, swimming pools to zoos. But there’s a catch! Each project will require you to use a particular math concept. Your pool model might require a perimeter of exactly 16 inches. Or your skyscraper budget may call for a mezzanine that totals exactly $250 as calculated in Lego bricks. Our Right Brain Curriculum teacher will have your back – they will review key concepts including area, perimeter, measurement, probability, geometry, decimals, and estimation. Create your Lego models and then get ready to solve word-problems upon completion. You will have so much fun constructing your Lego creations, you might just forget you’re learning!

Bike Rodeo (K-8)–FREE

A Bike Rodeo is a fun, hands-on way to learn how to handle a bike safely through a variety of different stations and an obstacle course.

Participants will have helmets and bikes checked for proper fit and safety, followed by brief group instruction, practicing their bike handling and safety knowledge. Participants will earn a Certificate of Achievement at the end. There will be lots of fun and useful stations to stop at along the way!

Participants should bring a rideable bike, close-toed shoes, and a helmet. (Some helmets will be available in case needed.)

Expect to spend about one hour at the Rodeo. (We sign people up in 30 minute segments for traffic-flow purposes). You will check-in, then visit all the stations, then proceed to the obstacle course, before checking out and getting your Certificate and goody bag. The obstacle course portion is about 30 minutes long, and completing all the other important stations may take 30+ minutes depending on how much time you spend at each (helmet fit, bike fit, bike maintenance checkup, and more). Parents/guardians must stay on-site with their children during this event and are encouraged to check out each station!

Transit Explorers | $10 Resident

Transit Explorers will help youth (6th-12th grade) learn how to get around via Lexpress and our local MBTA buses. Learning how to ride transit can increase access and independence! These transportation services can help you get to/from a range of activities such as school, after-school programs, summer programs, part-time jobs, volunteering, recreation and more! With a Limitless Lexpress Pass and a Student Charlie Card, all this access is also quite affordable!

The series is meant to cover both Lexpress and MBTA. Please review the description of each session. You sign-up for each session you are interested in.

Bike Smart for Youth $10 Resident • $15 Non-Resident

This is a great course for youth that know how to ride a bike without training wheels, but need to understand the rules of the road and safety skills. Youth receive in-depth training on bike handling skills, hand signals, basic safety, proper helmet fit, and bike fit. At the end of the class, if all students are ready, they receive an escorted on-road ride led by Certified Cycling Instructors. All participants will receive a reflective backpack and a variety of useful and fun goodies! Classes will be held outdoors. Bring a helmet, bike, and closed-toe shoes. A water bottle is recommended.
