Andrew Fisher: Illuminations

With a successful interior design career spanning fifty years, Andrew Fisher is highly acclaimed for his unbridled imagination and unique artistic sensibility in creating “drop dead chic” fantasy interiors. Alongside his robust design practice, Fisher is also renowned for his distinctively luxurious fine art furniture, lighting fixtures, 24-karat gold gilded steel mesh jewelry, and exquisite gilded paintings and tapestries. Seamlessly blending his love of metal and sculpture, Fisher elegantly combines steel, cut paper, acrylic ink, precious metals, and other mixed media, which results in stunning paintings that employ radiant, cascading rhythms of gridded texture and mesmerizing plays of light and color. Fisher’s extraordinary compositions shine with a lustrous gold patina that allow the viewer an ecstatic opportunity for deep meditative reflection.

Working at the intersection between fine art and craft, Fisher brings to his work a sophisticated approach to materials and surface. In his art, Fisher applies moon gold (22.5-karat), champagne gold (23-karat), or 24-karat yellow gold to canvas or paper, which is then meticulously handsewn in intricate arrangements that often resemble mosaic floors or luminous textiles. His careful patterning retains an organic quality that connects his refined approach to materials with a sense of looseness that evokes the memory of the artist’s hands. Fisher’s profoundly seductive works possess the capacity to provoke a calming and transformative feeling of beauty.

Andrew Fisher earned a BA in Sculpture, Drawing, and Metal Arts from the California College of the Arts. In 2000, Fisher merged his creative forces with Jeffry Weisman to establish the formidable design firm Fisher Weisman. Fisher Weisman has garnered recognition from Elle Décor, which includes the firm in its “A-List” of the world’s top designers. Fisher Weisman’s work has been published internationally in magazines, newspapers, blogs, and books. Fisher exhibits in his studios in San Francisco, CA, and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
