Exhibition ‘Univers Gaudí’
Exhibition Gaudí’s Universe at the CCCB Barcelona, 2002 This exhibition is part of the events commemorating the 150th anniversary of Antoni Gaudí’s birth. The project is designed as a journey through three areas: Gaudí’s time studying and training (Things Seen), Gaudí’s work method as an architect/sculptor (The Workshop), and those he influenced (Fortune). Each of these areas is housed in a different wing of the CCCB exhibition hall. The project is based on defining a flexible mechanism to both unite and differentiate the three parts of the exhibition.

In the first part, frames were built for the paintings, framing the depth of Gaudi’s specific view. Each image is a window. In the second part, the inside of Gaudí’s workshop is interpreted based on a visit to the sculpture garden/room, with pieces displayed on platforms/mountains that are none other than the screens from the first section laid horizontally on the ground. In the third and final part of the exhibition, the tables are turned. The deep spaces of the first part become an extroverted extension. We’re on the other side of the same windows.

Exhibition ‘Recycling Madrid: Ábalos & Herreros’
‘Recycling Madrid: Ábalos & Herreros’ Barcelona, 2003 The exhibition ‘Recycling Madrid’ is an immense collage structured around a map of the Iberian Peninsula linking places, phases and steps of unprecedented projects. A centripetal exhibition that journeys through the most relevant documents from a dozen projects scattered around the Peninsula, which serve to show a cross section of the, at that time, most recent work of Ábalos & Herreros.

The installation is based on creating a new topography for the exhibit hall at the Association of Architects. This emblematic space has too often been used facing away from the street, isolated from the everyday life that surrounds this spot, in front of the cathedral. Thus the exhibition set-up included new flooring, bridging the gap between this space and the surrounding public areas and bringing it into the hall to create a new center.
This decision creates a large plane. The printed graphic materials can be seen from both inside and outside the room. The geometry of the assembly also follows the outline of the Iberian Peninsula and, as a bonus, lets us put the projects by A&H studio on the map by location. This decision also led to the title of the exhibition: “Panorama Centro”. The installation is the direct construction of a metaphor: it is a panoramic installation meant to be seen from a privileged center to the production-filled fringes. The materials for the installation focus on monumental lightness. An architectural treatise that is very close to the work of this Madridbased studio and a useful way to explain and combine subtlety and scale. Part of the contents covered by these pieces exhibited from this creative period.

Expansion of Thyssen–Bornemisza Museum
Expansion of the Thyssen—Bornemisza Museum Madrid, 2004 Updating the Museum After acquiring two buildings adjacent to the Palacio de Villahermosa, the Museum was able to expand and display more of the Carmen Thyssen—Bornemisza Collection. From the beginning, the expansion was also seen as an opportunity to update and enhance the spaces and programs that complement the permanent collection, which are vital to any modern museum: temporary and contextual exhibit halls, reception area and artwork storage, restoration workshop, spaces for teaching activities and private events, café, offices, cloakrooms, storage, kitchens… So, the uses and connections are sized in line with the resulting museum, which now manages two collections, two hundred thousand additional visitors and one third more space.

The sky in Madrid opens up Far from increasing the bulk of the buildings, the expansion decreased it. This surprising decision not to speculate dictates the size of the new building, which sacrifices the top two floors in order to put the Palacio de Villahermosa center stage, fit in the garden/ lobby and create a new, unified image for the museum on the scale of this recovered urban space.
A home isn’t a palace The characteristics of the two buildings acquired for the expansion made it totally impossible to adapt them to house a collection like that of the Thyssen. The height of the ceilings, the difference in the level of the floors from those of the current museum, the structural format with loadbearing walls, the location of the entrances and orientation towards the back streets all made it completely impossible to preserve the buildings, even though they were protected. Rebelling against this fact allowed us to better explore the limits of a potential demolition and reach the conclusion that by partially demolishing the buildings we could preserve some of the original qualities of these historical buildings, while also making them compatible with a new construction that would fit the museum’s needs.
The surgical operation consisted in maintaining the rear section and whole façades for the use that best fits these original, domestic qualities: offices. This not only maintained the relationship of these hundred-year-old façades and the surrounding neighborhood, but also that of their balconies and foyers with the street they belong to. At the same time, the project freed up much of the old lot to construct a modern building adapted to the more public uses: exhibition halls.

Thyssen—Bornemisza Museum Shop
Museum Shop of Thyssen—Bornemisza Museum Madrid, 2004 Museum shops are a highly attractive part of the whole, a way to communicate and broadcast messages and, above all, a great source of income for the institution. The first decision in creating a new museum shop is choosing its location. On one hand, it should be located just in front of the end of the route visitors take through the collection inside the building, making the shop the natural extension of the exhibition space. On the other, it should be visible from the street. However museum shops like that at the Thyssen—Bornemisza combine two identities: one selling objects and accessories and the other selling books and catalogs. These two sides don’t always attract the same type of users and require different spaces and display furniture.

Furthermore, the proximity of the shop to the exhibitions suggests the space be treated in a way similar to the museum. Its layout must feel familiar and in line with the rest of the museum, bringing museumgoers in naturally as part of their visit. This connection is emphasized through the way the space is structured, broken up into rooms separated by thick walls, full of light and objects. Finally, the shop made an effort to separate books and accessories in a shared space, using a central hallway that also emulates the museum’s linear sequence.

Interpretation Center of CastreĂąa Culture
Castro Culture Visitors Center San Cibrao, Galicia, 2005 The Visitors Center, with its innovative exhibition, gives visitors all the keys to understanding the most important, enigmatic aspects of this culture: its relationship with the territory, local and overall organization of society, contact with other cultures, symbols and forms of expression. The project is designed as a voyage through the archeological site, with the exhibition being only the first stage. The work on the existing building focuses on opening up a huge panoramic window so visitors can see the site from the entrance to the building. This view creates a focal point around which to structure the visit. The beginning of the circuit features the most interpretative areas. In the first room, a huge audiovisual projection on a model of the Galician territory introduces the landscape, geography and orography at the heart of the subject.

As a supplementary space, the cybercastro becomes a place for visitors to ask questions and interact with the contents and the network of museum castros that, from this first one, make up a whole route. The circular geometry of the castros and their relationship with the surrounding landscape are the formal foundation on which all of the contents of the museum are based. They are a spatial resource that conveys the ideas of linking, continuity, a whole, a sequence of sizes, inside and outside, that help highlight and put the museum’s message in context. The final exhibition space is devoted to the archeologists working on the site.

A sort of scientific board displays the latest pieces discovered, showing visitors the analysis process. The path through the ruins at the site is highlighted with small round platforms featuring graphic information and a bench. They are small pedestals in the landscape from which visitors can observe the site in front of them as well as the distant landscape that was so important to this culture.
Center of Contemporary Culture
Octubre Center of Contemporary Culture València, 2006 From the very beginning, our intention was to design the “Octubre” Center for Contemporary Culture as a single space. The project had to find a way to make the center’s various simultaneous activities seem and be organized as a single, common space. So, the central courtyard and the entrance “square” on the ground floor become one space, practically outdoors, where different functional programs will be held, and act as the basis for understanding the operations of the whole center.

The approach was to superimpose the project on top of the many other projects that have been undertaken on this lot. This is reflected in the graphics of Claret Serrahima featuring different fonts overlapping each other to create an overall reading without any one completely blocking out the others. This lot was home to a section of the medieval city wall, an early 20th century merchant building and now, a modern cultural center. Three layers that add up to one whole.
The markedly public nature of its central location and the fact that it opens onto two pedestrian streets ensures the success of the cultural center, which has a clear desire to act as a meeting point, as a natural extension of the high foot traffic in this pedestrian area. The ground floor, highly empty, is structured around a new passageway that unites the two streets via opposing doors, allowing pedestrians to cross through the building. This ground-floor passageway defines the first of four longitudinal bands that define the space and its activities: the walkway, the bookshop, the square and the stairs. The other open, public spaces –exhibition hall and events hall– are put in the basement, connected to the street façade and the entrance floor through two courtyards. The rest of the uses –rooms and offices– are structured radially around the huge central courtyard. A large informational screen ties together the emptiness inside, further emphasizing the idea of one single center, showing the first of the superimpositions of new architecture on top of the old, rehabilitated structure and conveying a message of relationships, rehabilitation and dialog between the existing structure and the new one, the first of many debates to take place in this new cultural center.

Thyssen Museum Costa Brava Art Museum at Monastery Cultural Center Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Girona, 2008 The new museum will be located on the grounds of the monastery complex in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, in the former Serra—Vicens cork factory located in front of the monastery. It will house the permanent Carmen Thyssen—Bornemisza collection of Catalan paintings and have spaces for future temporary exhibitions. The project is commissioned jointly with that for the landscaping of the surrounding area, urban planning and the adjacent parking lot.

The architectural project preserves the Serra—Vicens factory buildings, but not to house the museum. They are used to invent an inner courtyard to envelop and protect the gallery. The project proposes emptying out the buildings in order to preserve them, selectively dismantling them and turning them into a sort of outdoor space, like a shadehouse, preserving the structure, wall facings and some coverings to become a unique open-air foyer. Beyond its atmospheric nature, the shadehouse serves a purpose, acting as a climate-control mechanism. The cross section and roof beams create a horizontal filter that stabilizes the temperature in the lower part, which means this can be used as an air inlet for the internal climate-control machines. The exhibition and workspaces, however, will be built in what is now the garden. Empty to fill. The empty space in the current courtyard will be filled with a new, modern, open, fully equipped building that will house the exhibitions like a shadehouse. The newly built structure is light, metallic, prefab, dry assembled. The framework will be built with panels and the scales on the roof, totally prefab. It is a space defined by the natural light that streams in through the rooftop skylights, collecting sunlight and solar power. Sustainability features heavily in this project from the initial decision. The long side of the rectangle of the lot faces north. This geometric coincidence makes it possible to have north-facing skylights following the line of the lot. As a result, we build the empty space and empty what is built. What was previously the building is dismantled in order to be preserved and what was previously open space is covered to become the interior of the museum. This option creates, among other things, a building that respects its surroundings and is integrated with the other cultural buildings in the monastery complex, without sacrificing modern facilities.

La Selva County Archive
La Selva County Archive Santa Coloma de Farners, Girona, 2008 An urban building. An exercise in integration The challenge of this project lies in inserting the structure of a facility like an archive into the urban fabric of a historical town center of low homes and narrow streets. The decision to put the County Archive within the existing urban fabric of Santa Coloma de Farners was a result of the desire to bring value to this activity, which is normally located in suburban areas, by giving it a privileged spot, visible and accessible, integrating it into the life of the town. This location, however, isn’t only meant to house the activity of the archive, it also aims to showcase it and invite a more public use of the building. | p. 16
Also taking into account that two-thirds of this type of building is used for document storage, a function that requires closed spaces that are protected from the outside and nearly hermetic, putting such an opaque building on this highly urban corner requires an adaptation to the existing structures that converged in a decision on how to design the façade and, on the other hand, a clear separation of uses that led to the creation of an open, public ground floor.
This adaptation becomes clearer when the volume maintains the alignment in contact with the neighboring structure (at Carrer del Centre 1). This realignment, at the same time, provides a solution on Carrer Hospital, which the façade of the archive looks onto. This section of the wall also reflects the rhythm of openings on the neighboring building, creating a transition between architecture on two different scales.
The roof starts by enveloping the third and final floor, which sits back from the façade. It disappears. So, the ceramic wall covering between the three lower framework sections, the true façade, adapts to the height of the neighboring buildings, sacrificing part of its possible height.

Political party headquarters
Iniciativa per Catalunya-Verds Headquarters Barcelona, 2009 This space is located in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic quarter. In the center of the triangle created by Plaça de la Mercè, Plaça Reial and Plaça de Sant Miquel, just two hundred meters from the current headquarters. The building in question has one façade on Carrer Còdols and one on Carrer Escudellers, just before Plaça George Orwell, the neighborhood’s main public space. This building is unique because of its inner passageway for neighbors and shops. The building is classified as a local interest site in the preservation of the old city center. The space has two entrances, from the passageway and from Carrer Còdols. In fact, the ground floor, currently used as a private parking garage, has twenty-two meters of façade on Carrer Còdols and twenty-four on the passageway, in two sections. This gives it close ties to the street, facilitates access and gives it presence on four different streets. | p. 18
Therefore, it is a highly outward-facing building with a series of subtle visual relationships and indirect access, protected from the hustle and bustle of the city. The ground floor can be seen as one large room. In part due to its nearly rectangular shape and in part because of its lack of dividing walls, one of the vestiges of when it was transformed from a bank into a parking garage. This large rectangle opens onto the street all along two of its sides. This is complemented by two airshafts and a series of inner skylights. The first floor, which is reached via a short staircase that must have replaced a more majestic one, is divided into two spaces. The part built out into the inner courtyard of the block with a huge skylight and the interior areas of the building itself, in four rooms with balconies looking onto Carrer Còdols.
Very early on in the project, the potential of this space became clear: the location, its unique layout, its proximity to the current headquarters, the commitment to rehabilitating a local interest site, the intense urban activity, the surrounding social fabric, the architectural and spatial quality of the space, the environmental qualities for future activities, the great distribution and understanding of the two separate areas, the variety of entrances that could be organized for different uses, the surprise of the interior skylight…

Theater El Molino
El Molino: Café—Concert Hall Barcelona, 2010 The goal of this project was to re-launch the old El Molino, adapting it to the requirements any public collective space must meet. With the aim of getting back that spirit of complicity, communication and mischievousness that made the original so popular and famous, the plan calls for artistic activity, entertainment, getting back the old “magic”, but adapted to current trends, both in terms of programming and management. A cosmopolitan schedule of events is needed, one that can attract locals, those nostalgic for the old Molino and those too young to remember it, as well as visitors. The architectural project seeks a way to house musical and entertainment activities in an inviting setting, close to the audience, that facilitates communication and complicity while guests have a drink or some food. It is designed for mixed use, a wide variety of shows that combines or alternates between flamenco, modern cabaret, variety shows and concerts, which together make the new | p. 20
Molino a cultural, leisure and tourist attraction. A new symbol of the lively, happy, welcoming Barcelona. Recovering and updating the old, timeworn “El Molino” Café—Concert Hall entails a full remodel of the inside of the building. The current situation, half demolished, shows the many problems and constructional shortcomings of the building. This situation, and the need to reformulate an updated program, with new technical requirements and many regulatory obligations, leads to a full remodel of the inside of the old building. It is designed for use as a café/concert hall, as it always was, giving visitors dinner and a show at a limited number tables in the restaurant. The obvious limitations in terms of space on the lot means the design has to be adapted to fit superimposed programs, creating the current building with two new underground floors.
The need to use the rooftop for the building’s activities led to the construction of a new structure on top of the existing one, corresponding approximately to the height of a building with a ground floor and 8 above-ground stories. In truth, however, it has a double attic, one floor with a club and adjoining terrace, one floor for installations and machinery, and one floor of offices with a rehearsal space.

El Born Cultural Center
El Born Cultural Center Barcelona, 2010 One site within another With the 18th century city frozen under its floors, the building that was previously home to the El Born Market has become a deluxe roof for a magnificent archaeological site. In addition to this unusual starting point, the building is also part of the urban fabric that, to a good extent, is a continuation of the 18th century city that the site displays and that of the 19th century city the market represents. Following this curious chronological order, the present-day city spreads out inside the building as a horizontal panel, replacing part of the floor that was destroyed, intervening in the roof and the site, to give us a privileged vantage point of this surprising effect.

Understandable interference
Site intact
This recovered ground floor is a playground for foot traffic, meetups, tours, wanderers, exhibitions, the café, bookshop, and those just passing through. It is therefore understood as a quasi-urban space. This dependence on the public is a way to maintain the links between the inside of the building and the urban fabric, but also a way of clarifying what hasn’t really been designed. The language of the new elements that colonize these spaces is dictated by the complicity with the streets. To put it another way, the new interferences reference elements that are familiar to us.
The concentration of new elements on this level: lobby, view point, new exhibition spaces and services, made it possible to keep the site intact. In part because the archeological site has already been interfered with enough. The bare foundations, the concrete screens, the pipes and the structures of this new upper space are very powerful, unexpected, extemporaneous actions. And although the presence of some of these elements is part of a narrative the museum can’t turn its back on, it’s also true that the site is full.

New Café at Thyssen–Bornemisza Museum
New Café At Thyssen—Bornemisza Museum Madrid, 2014 A new terrace for the museum The project to create a café terrace focuses on using the garden as the outer lobby of the Thyssen—Bornemisza Museum, preserving its essence as an outdoor space, a balance of the old and new architecture, and a place to be used and enjoyed by both residents and visitors. The proposal aimed to link the necessary installation of a protective roof (that would make it usable) with the expansion of the museum. Disconnected both physically and formally from the historical façade, as was already done with the new structures from

the expansion project. From this project, the terrace takes its architectural language, colors and geometric shapes. It is understood as an inseparable part of the ideas of the whole that were proposed in 2004, insisting on having the building set back and to the side on the lot. Attempting to make the new element part of the world of the gardens (a shadehouse) and for it to be tied both to the prefab canvas of the new façade and the geometry of the cement bricks of the existing curve. It will, thus, identify with the new and not the old.
The garden shadehouse
An indoor space outdoors
The project for a new terrace uses only the rooftop space for a new café. The solution creates platforms and terraced balconies, adapting to the curve of the rooftop, while providing an entrance from Calle Zorrilla that was never used naturally before. This first decision is based in part on the image of the shadehouse. A shadehouse in the garden that makes it possible to enjoy the space in summer and winter as an outdoor terrace. But at the same time, filters, veils and shelters, its activity looking outwards. Concealing its entrance from the rest of the visitors entering the facility or moving around inside as they must always have the sense they are entering a museum, not a café.
The tilted slats reinforce the idea of a screen, a veil of shade in front of the façade. At the same time, the slats are programed depending on the different settings and times of day. These atmospheric variables combine with spatial ones. This combination creates different settings for rest, contemplation and conversation. This terrace layout complements the indoor café, which the project also renovated. A new suspended ceiling of slats resolves the sound problems and connects the ceiling of the inside space with the shadehouse outside. It proposes a café in two acts. The remodel inside, finally, also made it possible to include a ramp onto the terrace.

Hotel Nervión
Expansion of Hotel Avenida
Expansion of Hotel Avenida Bilbao, 2000-2004 Façade and Foyer at Hotel Nervión Bilbao, 1998-1999 The new façade overlooking the Ria (Bilbao’s tidal river) announces the remodeled hotel. The project aims to increase the hotel’s size and services on offer by stratifying programs and integrating messages into the façade. Guests enter through the first basement, which opens onto the street, taking advantage of the public programs. The attic floors are set back to align the building’s height with the neighboring façades. The suites on these floors look “out of the corner of their eye” towards the new Bilbao.
This project expanded the Hotel Avenida, adding 46 new rooms in an adjoining building. At the same time, the expansion is an opportunity to clean up the whole facility and give it a new image addressing the location marked by the uneven topography and overbuilding. The fragmented image starts off exposing the vestibule, with the ground floor on one hand and the fourth-floor balcony/ viewpoint on the other. Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Tarragona, 1999 This home is located in one of the few green areas left along the built-up seafront of Sant Carles. The main aim was to preserve the character of the spot, giving the building a zigzag layout skirting the large pine trees on the lot. The ground floor opens onto the garden and the upper floor disconnects from the rest to become a bastion of privacy. This project is the continuation of Francesc Pla’s university research project (10), developing a permeable, empty type of housing, where life is lived outdoors thanks to its wide runner-balcony that acts as both terrace and entrance. The solution organizes the building into blocks, simplifying construction and utilities. Hotel Gat Tangier Tangier, Morocco, 2007
This project proposes an expansion of the hotel, preserving Villa’s original idea reflecting the Spanish neighborhood in the Tangier port area. The much-needed addition is built as a backdrop of arabesques and calligraphic textures that hide and clean up the separating walls peeking out around the lot. Hotel Gat Rossio Barcelona, 2002 This project covered eight housing units and one retail space on a 500m2 lot in the heart of the historical center of Barcelona’s Les Corts neighborhood. The building bridges the gap between the different uses, which require a connection between the urban exterior and the gardened interior, the solution expressing an idea of community open to the street. Logistics Resource Building
Molins de Rei, Barcelona, 2004 The shape of the building reflects the street’s transition from homes to large-scale facilities. Its silhouette takes that of the neighboring houses and transforms it with a flat warehouse reminiscent of the surrounding topography. The material for the façade reflects the concept of the warehouse, workshops and offices as a glimpse at a display. the owner of the surrounding vineyards. One vaulted cabin is fitted out with a kitchen and dining room and the other with a bedroom and living room. In the middle, a pergola joins them, creating a space to spend summer evenings. The project was designed with the utmost respect for the existing structures, their heritage value, and is fully self-sufficient in terms of energy. Train Station Berlin, 2007-2010 This project is based on rehabilitating a post-war prefab concrete building for use as a hotel. Barcelona, 2012 The new station at Sant Andreu Comtal has to overcome the unfortunate difference in levels after the new concrete box is built to cover the train tracks, which will be the foundation for a new park built on its roof. The new station is at once a façade, a way of dealing with the difference in height, a gateway to the park and a light construction, similar to a greenhouse, that makes space for the entrance to the train platforms underground and open-air use of the new park. Selection of urban-planning work Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona, 2009 This project is laid out on the lot in a way that allows the new services building and stands on top of it to be integrated into the sports complex and the facility is completed with landscaping.

Stone cabin Barberà del Vallès, Barcelona, 2014 This walkway will connect the boulevard that runs through the industrial area of Barberà with the Baricentro shopping center. The walkway is designed as a clear, forceful gateway to the landscape and a panoramic path for pedestrians. The functional solution was to design the walkway as an extension of the inner boulevard of the shopping center. The constructive solution, which had to be prefab, ties the handrails to the beams and these to the columns, which adapt to the size of the highway for a naturally meandering path.

Exhibition Andrea Palladio Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, 2014 Walkway in the middle of an agriculture area that is a bridge over two sets of train tracks (local and long distance) connecting the station with the adjacent neighborhood. The distance and desire to connect the landscaping with the magnificent surroundings led us to understand the walkway as a path, delicately set atop a changing topography, that transforms the idea of connecting into one of strolling, offering different routes and viewpoints that invite visitors to cross and to stay. Master Plan for Lighting Passeig de Gràcia
The project focused on building a raised floor that would fold out to create box/platforms for the models. The layout and cross section reproduce some of the visual connections the buildings have in their real settings. On the façade, the collision of two architects: the Tinell’s gothic arch and the deep arch of Palladio’s Olympic Theatre. The new Master Plan for façades on Passeig de Gràcia is an idea for the nighttime image that contrasts with its daytime look. A nighttime look that emphasizes not only the landmarks but all of the buildings to create a boulevard of buildings and not a boulevard of shortcomings. One that is united. Therefore, the research was based on the idea of a transition of brightness and secondary lighting. On the other hand, the Master Plan also covers consolidation of the whole “urban U” as public space.
‘Kelly, a seduction’ was a temporary piece that aimed to transform a small shop on Barcelona’s Passeig de Gràcia into an urban event to raise awareness of the Hermés universe in the city. The project transformed the huge façade into a screen/ doorway that opened up during the day to establish a display path inside and closed up at night, filling with smoke to become a huge screen for rear-projected images.

This hallway separates the two uses, with two different systems and two different materials: wood and concrete. This is a place for an atypical consumer of elegance, culture and class. The project invents an interior, without any doors, that hinges on a stairway and its landings (bedrooms), which act as balconies overlooking the great open space.
Offices for a hotel chain inside an industrial space. The interior is designed as a path through meeting, work and management spaces, creating a sort of visitable book archive, which culminates with a management office/theater floating in the middle of the space, acting as a false ceiling for the meeting room.

Exhibition Expansion of Thyssen–Bornemisza Museum
Nit Laus
Traveling exhibition, 2004 This exhibition is at once a storage system, conference and website ( www.museothyssen.org). It looks like just a wheeled box containing the twelve most noteworthy models from the expansion of the museum. Then the box opens up to become a huge table/platform to display the models alongside drawings and graphs on the inner surfaces of the object, which are blackboards. Each of the models covers a specific part of the project, which can only be understood as a whole by adding up all of its parts. Barcelona, 2006 Design for the exhibit of the finalists to the Laus Awards in graphic design, awards ceremony and final gala. The project featured 24 tables that, suspended with the theatre’s fly system, become an exhibition and when lowered, are discovered to be tables fully equipped to feed 500 people. Stage and traveling exhibition Expo Zaragoza, 2007 Barcelona, 2004 Our intention in designing the displays for the exhibition was to create a common urban landscape that, when visitors walked through it, conveyed the idea of an isolated corner -a crossroads and a building- that when multiplied makes a city, establishing a two-way relationship between buildings and the city. Inside the exhibition, visitors move around as they do in a city: wandering. The space is also a container for large 3D elements that is spread out and deformed to make up independent spaces displaying different multidisciplinary viewpoints of the corner and the crossroads. Exhibition Pixar: 25 years of animation Barcelona, 2012-2015 Cornellà de Llobregat, Barcelona, 2013 Paintings, photographs and writings displayed panoramically around the powerful geometric shape of the circle for a privileged, abstract point of view, which is also the beginning of the visit, in the very center of the room. Invisible lecterns give the sense of a path through floating artwork. This weightless, watery presence is further emphasized with the slope of the floor, which leads you back to the beginning almost involuntarily. Adapting the large exhibition on the creative and production processes of the Pixar factory required a powerful concept. Barcelona, 2014 The new Port Visitors Center is located on the ground floor of the Portal de la Pau building, giving visitors a view of the past, present and future of the Port of Barcelona through an exhibition in three stages, with special emphasis on one: the present. The proposal focuses on a huge multimedia diorama that occupies the center of the space and is at the core of the narration that aims to reproduce the experience of a day in the port. This exhibition featuring posters and graphic design pieces was located in the vestibule of the DHUB events room. As the space has many different uses, we proposed a mobile installation that could be removed when necessary. The solution was to hang the display cases using a system of motors and pulleys. The exhibition was organized as a chronological circuit around the tables. In photography: I did numerous photo reports on architecture and the city between 1990 and 2010 for studios and specialized journals, as well as the books “Barcelona interiors”, “Barcelona 92-2004” and “Destruction of Barcelona”. I also had exhibitions and collaborated on artistic projects with Susana Solano, among others
In film: I’ve worked with directors like Joaquim Jordà on “Inside a Dark Mirror” and Mercedes Alvarez on “The Sky Turns” and “Futures Market”, a cinematographic essay on the contemporary city on which I was executive producer. As a director, I have done feature films like “TROLL” (2006) and, currently, “Amor a l’Art” (Love of Art) about the Baroness Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza and “La Panamericana”, a road movie following La Mala Rodríguez from Buenos Aires to Ciudad Juarez in search of unique female voices In 2000, I began working in cultural management, first as architectural manager for the “Johny” Summer Festival at the Center for Fine Arts in Brussels curated by London-based artist Craigie Horsfield (The City of the People) as part of Brussels 2000, European capital of Culture. In 2001, I was in charge of scheduling, coordination and ephemeral architectural installations for the Festival of Africas for Architects Without Borders and the CCCB and, in 2002, I did the scheduling and production for the CCCB Voices of the Maghreb project. More recently, I worked on the project “Xarxes d’opinió” (Opinion Network) website for the FAD and I am currently part of a team developing a mobile app called WiNK, which is designed to encourage the exchange of culture and production among people that share space. As a failed project, management and production of the “Architecture in Action” festival, the first biannual film and architecture festival in Spain, which was commissioned in 2009 by the Fundació Caixa d’Arquitectes and the Ministry of Housing, which didn’t come to fruition

Leve Projects
Francesc Pla + Eva Serrats They met as students of architecture. Francesc has been the P of BOPBAA for more than twenty years, a partner in an architecture studio with a wide array of projects, with different scopes and formats. Eva Serrats has worked in fields such as photography, film, events, cultural projects, teaching and activism. From these parallel journeys, they have kept our interest in a wide variety of formats and topics. For some years now, they have come together in a common project at a studio located in La Floresta, on the square right next to the railway station that connects Barcelona with the Vallès area. A place of centrality within the periphery, a neighbourhood where the flat plain meets the mountains, where the urban world meets Collserola Natural Park. The projects they work on have a variety of themes, motivations and formats: accommodation for the homeless, food sustainability, luxury, types of housing, infrastructures within the landscape, territory... in architecture projects, urban planning, cultural events, etc. A significant part of their daily work is as general practitioners of architecture, serving the neighbourhood and being involved in defining neighbourhood improvement projects. Leve was born as an audiovisual production company and nowadays retains its production structure, organised by projects, often working on co-productions and in collaboration with other technical and creative teams.
