Letterland is an imaginary place where letters come to life! The friendly Letterland characters help children to easily understand the sound and shape of letters – one of the key skills needed when learning to read and write. Simple stories about the Letterland characters explain letter sounds and shapes, so that confusion over similar looking letters is avoided and children are motivated to listen, think and learn. The key to success lies in Letterland’s ‘sound trick’. By just starting to say a character’s name, such as ‘a…’ for Annie Apple; ‘b...’ for Bouncy Ben; ‘c...’ for Clever Cat, a child automatically says the correct letter sound. It’s that simple! The combination of memorable characters and proven educational principles makes Letterland the ideal way to introduce your child to the alphabet. For more information go to www.letterland.com

Here are some ways you can enjoy this book with your child. • Look at the pictures together, read the poems and talk about all the fun things the Letterlanders are doing and the exciting places they visit – the beach, the jungle, the mountain tops, the ocean deeps, even outer space! • Find all 26 Letterlanders in each scene. Some characters may be easier to spot than others! Then try to Ƥnd the same Letterlander in each scene. Look for things that begin with that character’s sound and talk about them. • Flip through the pages Ƥnding the same Letterlander in each scene. Look for things that begin with that character’s sound and talk about them, so that the ‘target sound’ is repeated again and again. For example: “Look! Bouncy Ben has just baked some buns. Here’s Bouncy Ben at the beach, playing with his ball. Now Bouncy Ben is racing in a boat made from a barrel. And here’s Bouncy Ben being Batman!” • Finally, take up the challenge of Quarrelsome Queen’s Questions which you’ll Ƥnd at the back of the book on page 30.
