Editorial Welcome to this landmark 3rd edition of Peak Perspectives. (If you missed them, you can read our 1st and 2nd editions here.) The number 3 symbolises creativity, communication, optimism - and success. Cause for celebration! Creativity: More original, entertaining and illuminating art and writing, made exclusively by and for Le Régent students and their school community! Thank you to Maya Sondhi for providing the Visual Art for this edition. Communication: Around 100 people are already following our brand new leregent-magazine Instagram page, managed by our dynamic new Head of Comms: Lenie Siepel! Optimism: They say a worry shared is a worry halved. Well our Agony Uncle, Mr Philips, has wisely pondered the concerns posted by anonymous members of our community and replied with sage advice which we are sure you will nd is reassuring to more than just the original worrier. Our postbox (outside Mont Lachaux restaurant) is at your disposal for messages to the Agony Uncle, suggestions for the magazine team and more. Success: Good things come in threes. This will be Katya Datla’s 3rd and nal edition as the original Editor-in-chief of Peak Perspectives. She has 300% delivered on her passion project to start, maintain and hand over a thriving and regular community compendium. Now in IB2 and facing mock exams in January, she will be handing over the reins to Daniela Frenkel. Our magazine team continues to grow though; several new members will join us in 2024. Contact us if you would like to get involved too. Happy reading and have a great Winter term!

Le Régent x

Sponsoring a Grade 8 Class in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and starting a dialogue with them… The Education For Sustainable Development (ESD) Parents Association and students who had been involved in the resale of pre-loved uniforms have donated CHF 2,000 to Action Aid and support a Grade 8 class of 199 boys and girls aged 13-14 years old at the Salamabila Institute in the Democratic Republic of The Congo.

A group of Le Régent students have already written letters and drawn pictures to introduce themselves, to ask questions and hopefully start corresponding with some of the students from the DRC. Mrs Shaw has written to their teacher, Professor Mulanda too. We are excited to hear back from them, hopefully soon!

CAM OR CDM By Alexandre Sghaier Two positions on the pitch CAM or CDM I wanted to run a lot So I chose to play CDM I was warmed up, motivated and ready to play I was doing good slide tackles And then I did an excellent goal line clearance I was defending well; no one could pass me! Except one person He was rapid! I could not catch him! And his dribbling was out of this world! The game was going well until the player nutmegged me And I got bodied to the ground! My physicality compared to the other player was like a piece of spaghetti against a stone! The player kept scoring goals after goals And I was depressed It was going terrible But the player got a red card. This changed the whole game for me My defending was back to solid! And my team was winning the game So I made my decision, I will play now on Cdm !

Lucid dreams By Natalia Sánchez Úbeda Once more I’m stuck between two roads, Facing a decision that will unfold, The dream of my own or my parents goals On and on, too many choices I've been told. And you can tell me what to say And you can tell me where to go, But I can't nd a way to care, About what you have to show A dream of my own, From where my heart groans. Should I follow my heart and try my best? No, my parents do know best, so my dreams shall stay at rest, Let go of own dreams, set aside such fears, This new path may bring tragic tears; But now strength for all else I must borrow This wisdom gained by my parents, I must follow. And that. That's what made all the difference.

Two Little Animals By Miranda Gudino

Two little animals in the vet A dog and a cat, I initially went for the cat because I already have one. However there was a dog; It looked really friendly but the responsibility was higher. Cats are easier to take care of. My mom suggested me to get a cat But I realised I didn't want to; So I decided to choose the dog, Even though I knew it was going to be harder, I wanted to make my own decisions, Instead of following everyone else, I knew she would be upset by me But I choose to be different so I choose the dog, And that has made all the difference.

As if slumber had become a deadly thing, the man awoke as if there was an emergency. His heartbeat was frantic, and his mind was whirling. Only now was his thinking as at as a battery, and the previous night's efforts had been a marathon of chaotic problem-solving. As a result, this day would pass as if he were hungover, not from liquor, but from the horrors of his job that required solutions. He rolled over and smacked his alarm with a mighty bang. As he stood up, rubbing his dry eyes, he yawned and got off of his bed. Then, slowly stumbling in a sleepy stride. He walked into his bathroom and looked at his long Tupperware of pills, one for every day of the week. It was lled to the brim, not even touched. The man ignored it like he did every other day and began to brush his teeth. Scrubbing every crevice and nook. He swished the uoride in his mouth then spit it out into the sink. He began to take his clothes off, getting ready for a shower. The steamy and bountiful shower water was by far the man's favorite part of the day. He washed and got out with a towel around his waist. He began getting dressed for his job. He put on a collared button-up and put sweat pants on; no one was going to put his pants on the camera anyways. He walked out of the shower and towards his living room. He glanced at his answering machine and clicked a button. A soft voice came from his of ce, "Cases are at an all-time high; quarantine will be mandatory for all." Yet the man ignored it as he pressed the button. A robotic voice spoke as the button was pressed, "User David, you have 6 new messages, reply 'play' to listen to them or-". David replied, "Stop." The machine abruptly stopped talking.

Questions for Mr Philips https://forms.gle/mzUosEde6rE93ZmC7

Responses By Mr Phillips (and a little help from Mr Snell) 1.There’s a really nice and pretty girl that I like a lot but she’s older than me. I haven't told anyone because they will all laugh at me. What should I do? I don't think I have a chance. Depends on how old she is! If you're feeling strong, then perhaps compliment on her success or beauty. Maybe speak to her to see how she responds. Mr Snell: You miss a 100% of shots you don't take 2.What do I do to get rid of constipation? Speak to the nurse. 3.How old were you when you had your rst kiss? Ooh ouch! Secret- 18+3 months! 4.How do I kiss a girl? •Just normally, on the cheekstwo in France and three in Switzerland- keep your distance! •In some cultures it is better to avoid! •Keep your eyes wide open to make sure it is the right person! Mr Snell: Practice on an apple.

fi

6.I want to join a cult but I’m scared of people judging me. What should I do? Certain cults could be against the law- check before you

make a move- you should not worry about judgements. Be Yourself. Mr Snell: It's good to belong, but may it come with issues. 7. How can I be more attractive? You already are! Be con dent and don't expect compliments! Mr Snell: Make people laugh 8. The president of the USA wants to meet you! Be humble! 9. How do I subtly irt with someone? By paying attention (intensely) to the person’s conversations. Speak highly, even if you disagree. Occasionally accidentally wink! Mr Snell: Too subtle could work against you; make jokes and subtle eye contact. 10. What is the juiciest gossip you know? • My neighbours’ cat has found a boyfriend • A gentleman told me that ‘wednesday’s date’ was very positive and promising! 11. People are making fun of me because I believe in the tooth fairy. I am 16. Is she real or not? I want to know the truth. You have the right to believe in whatever you want to! Perhaps, knowing enough to defend your belief would help you to be con dent.
