victims “victims” is inspired by death: - how the notion of death affects our everyday life and how we react to seeing a dead human body in life or in a newspaper. „he is dead and he is going to die”(Barthes) each of the five stories shows a sequence of events. the left-hand picture shows the person while still alive. the right-hand picture captures the person in the moment of death. But we already know the person is dead through the writing on (not next to) the pictures. What binds the victims together is the motif of a dead animal, which appears in all the stories. there is a transitional moment between the two pictures of every story that almost creates a third picture. It reflects on the way the victim was murdered. It brings to mind evidence photography from crime scenes. For example, a reflection in water, a jar of poisonous formaldehyde, a chopped hand. All the stories lie between truth and imagination. I was inspired by authentic stories from XIX/XX century london serial killers. But then i created my own stories. However, the threshold between fiction and reality is not clear. People believe in photographs.

In my project i combine: fashion photography with narrative; mug shots with crime scene documentation; 1920s aesthetic with contemporary fashion; past with future; stillnes with movement; editorial credits with old fashioned handwriting; reality with fiction.
