BEING FEARLESS DOESN’T MEAN YOU HAVE NO FEARS, IT MEANS YOU’RE STRONG ENOUGH TO FACE THEM.

JENNY WALLWORK Winner of the ‘Womens Inspirational Award 2015’

I would like to start by saying a huge ‘Thank You’ to everyone who has made it here tonight, this evening wouldn’t have been possible without you or the fabulous people that have helped make this evening a reality. It means the absolute world to me. From the moment the JWF charity launched in November 2015 I have been completely overwhelmed by the amount of support I have received from family, friends and fellow athletes. Words cannot describe how incredibly lucky I feel to know so many wonderful people and because of this I truly believe that the foundation can and will have a hugely positive impact on peoples lives.

Raising awareness and providing support for sufferers and their families is something that is very close to my heart and I’m determined that the Foundation will provide this. Over the next twelve months the Foundation will gain significant momentum as we look to offer a lasting impact to those in need of information, advice and guidance. I am truly honoured that you are all here to be a part of this evening and I hope you can join us in our many exciting plans for the future.

Welcome and thank you for attending the Jenny Wallwork Foundation annual dinner. The Foundation represent an important part of Jenny’s life and she’s working hard to ensure there’s a step change in the diagnosis, support and awareness of eating disorders. A 2015 report commissioned by Beat estimates more than 725,000 people in the UK are affected by an eating disorder and it can often be very difficult to identify that a loved one or friend has developed an eating disorder. If an eating disorder isn’t treated, it can have a negative impact on a young person’s school life and can disrupt relationships with family members and friends. The physical effects of an eating disorder often have a life long effect and is some tragic cases can sometimes be fatal. Jenny’s Foundation launched in November 2015 and together alongside a committed group of trustees has recently completed a visioning document which sets out the aims and objectives of the Foundation. The main focus for the Foundation is to raise awareness and develop a better understanding of issues surrounding eating disorders and the wider mental health agenda. The Foundation will also be focussing on promoting positive body image amongst young people across Yorkshire. Jenny’s long term vision is to provide a welcoming and safe place for young people in Yorkshire to access mental health specialists, support andadvocacy so that their lives are no longer dominated by fear of food, or the weight and shape of their bodies. Jenny and the team at the Foundation are fully committed to tackling thechallenges ahead and we hope that you enjoy the evening and continue to support the Foundation.
