ONECard is Your Membership! Wilkes House Recreation Centre utilizes the ONECard access system. This means that all students, staff and faculty will be required to hand in their ONECard to the front desk in order to gain access to the facility. All other members will be assigned a facility membership card if needed. *All memberships are sold at the Hawk Desk at Wilkes House Recreation Centre.

Open gym time is a privilege that is granted to all Laurier students and members. You can drop in, phone the Hawk Desk or check the schedule online to see when the gym is not booked.

Locks are available to rent for a $1 at the Hawk Desk for Laurier students or members. Lockers are available to those using the facility at the time. No locks are to be left on the lockers as they will be cut off at the end of each day. All belongings inside will be placed into lost and found.

Wilkes House Recreation Centre provides a towel service. Towels can then be signed out at each visit and returned before you leave the building. If you sign out a towel or other equipment during your visit you will be required to return it to the Hawk Desk in order to receive your card back.

Refunds and Transfer Policies

There are NO refunds on Personal Training Sessions or Packages once you have started with your trainer. For all Intramural and Extramural Programs the refund policy is as follows: A full refund will be issued BEFORE the programs begin. Once the league starts NO refunds will be issued unless approved by the Manager, Athletics & Recreation or Rec Program Coordinators. For all Courses, Clinics & Events the refund policy is as follows: We require 72 hours notice to receive a full refund. A $25 administration fee will be applied if it is within 72 hours of the program. Once the Course or Clinic has started NO REFUNDS will be issued. If you require a refund contact Kristin Fernandes (kfernandes@wlu.ca), Coordinator, Fitness & Lifestyle Programs or the Rec Program Coordinators for Intramural refunds (lbrecprogram@wlu.ca).

INTRAMURALS How to register To register for Intramurals, go to www.laurierathletics.com/registration and create a User Account. Shop around in the Intramural section of the site. Select the sport(s) you are interested in and register. Pay early as leagues fill up quickly and have limited capacity. Decide on a sport, designate a captain and recruit enough people to fill your roster. Free Agent Don’t have a team? Register as a free agent and join the league of your choice. The free agent fee is a one time payment of $20 with no bond. Free agents will usually be placed on teams made up of other free agents. You must complete payment to reserve your space in the league.

League Requirements All captain’s meetings will be @ 4:00 p.m. and MUST be attended by the Team Captain and all Free Agents. Leagues have minimums and maximum for number of teams. Co-Rec leagues must also meet minimum male/female requirements. In the event that any changes need to made, postings will be made online and on the intramural bulletin board in WH. The assessment consists of a few differnt measures to help determine your current range in certain areas like, body fat, aerobic endurance, muscular strength and flexibility. Get the information you need to step-up your fitness goals with the Assessor! $25 The Jumpstart This is the best option for the experienced or inexperienced fitness enthusiast looking to breath new life into their current program. This package combines the assessment session and a secondary session in which the personal trainer will introduce and explain a new workout program designed specifically for you! The assessment session will provide information about strengths, weaknesses, and new goals moving forward. The program session will introduce a new, tailored program based on your goals and current fitness levels. This combination serves to benefit everyone, from the most experienced exerciser to the beginner. $65 The Basic Five one-hour sessions with a personal trainer. This is a good way to introduce yourself to the gym! You will discuss with your assigned trainer what you would like to include in your program, any past injuries to be aware of, your workout experience, your fitness goals and more. You will work with your trainer to create a program that is perfect for you. Once the program has been created you will run through all the exercises with the trainer to make sure everything is understood and that all your questions are answered. $150 The Real Deal The “Real Deal” package includes a thorough introduction to the gym facilities and continues with 9 personal one on one training sessions with your trainer. You will learn how to use all the equipment needed for your personal program and the program will be designed to help achieve your fitness goals. If you have specific questions or concerns, the trainer will work closely with you to address them. You will be motivated to come to the gym… you count on your trainer, but they also count on you! $280 Double Dare Double up your training with a friend! With this package you and a friend have the opportunity to work out with a trainer during four one hour sessions. You have the option to make one of your sessions a fitness assessment, so you both can set up some mutual goals that will help the trainer design a program you both can do together. In this package the trainer wil help set up a program, teach you new equipment and show different partner exercises. All you need to do is find a good friend with a smilar goal and we have the prefect package for you! $110

Group Fitness

Laurier’s group fitness programs are designed to help you stay active and motivated throughout the school year! We offer many classes ranging from Pilates to aerobics. Certain classes are more specialized, like yoga or cyclefit, but all the classes are adapted to accommodate all fitness levels in a group setting. With over 25 hours of programming available a week, there is a class offered for all of your fitness needs. All fitness classes are FREE for Laurier students and held at Wilkes House Recreation Centre. Homecoming Waterloo Homecoming: September 26 - 28, 2014 Your Football Golden Hawks will be battling the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, September 27th @ 1:00 p.m. Athletics & Recreation will be offering tickets and transportation to and from the game. Tickets will go on sale in early September and will be sold at the U-Desk and Hawk Desk. Go HAWKS Go!!! Brantford Homecoming: November 8th, 2014 This year is our 6th annual homecoming at Brantford and we are happy to see the return of the Men’s Varsity Hockey team. Relay for Life October 24th, 2014

Every year across Canada, tens and thousands of participants, survivors and volunteers rally their energy, ethusiasm and efforts to help make cancer history through the Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life. This 12 hour fundraiser recognizes individuals who have survived cancer , as well as honours those who have lost their life to the disease. Here on the Brantford campus we have raised over $115,000 thanks to our students’ participation. Athletics & Recreation Social Wednesday April 1st, 2015

Come out and celebate the accomplishments of our students and athletes at our annual social. This event is open to all students and will be awarding staff and students that workout in our facility or play a sport for our department. Come enjoy our candy bar and more!

Sport Clubs Woman’s PowderPuff Football is looking forward to kicking off another season. The PowderPuff club is a women’s flag football team that competes in a number of university hosted tournaments and an annual OUA tournament. We are a club team and all are welcome to come out and play. Whether you have a sports background or not we are always taking on new members. Sign ups will be held in mid October. Run Laurier is a new club starting this fall, open to all students at all skill and athletic levels. Meet up with the group Tuesday evenings, Wednesday mornings and Thursday mornings. Ski and Snowboard Club is for everyone who enjoys and has experience with the sport as well as people who are interested in learning. It is a great atmosphere to get to the slopes with people who are at all different levels of experience. Lessons are available for people who would like to learn and it is an excellent opportunity to work on your skills and have fun doing it. There will be many opportunities where the club will get out to the resorts so don’t miss out!

Laurier Brantford Cheerleading is a newly growing team that is comprised of 20+ dedicated athletes each year. These athletes are skillful in stunting, jumping, tumbling and choreography which enable them to show off their hard work at provincial and national competitions nearing the end of the school year. Much preparation is needed for these competitions consisting of weekly practices, fundraising and an all-around good team morale. The Laurier Brantford Cheerleading Team is always looking for new, enthusiastic talent each year as we strive for the best in all of our endeavours. Laurier Brantford’s KAOS Dance Team offers both a Competitive and Recreational team. KAOS Competitive Dance Team competes against other universities at three different competitions. Our team trains in the styles of Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip-Hop and Contemporary. Our Recreational Team performs a routine at our Annual Showcase alongside our competitive dance numbers. All Laurier Brantford students are welcome to come support our dance team at our showcase in February. Auditions for KAOS Dance Team will take place the second week of fall term

Figure Skating Club is for students who are interested in continuing with their figure skating in a non-competitive environment. As this is a new club for the 2014-15 school year, we do not currently have a skate canada certified coach however we will look into hiring one. Please contact lbfsclub@gmail.com if interested!

Laurier Brantford’s Women’s Basketball Club allows for girls from various skill levels to engage in competitive basketball. The club offers girls the chance to partake in skill building, scrimmages, and competitive tournaments. Come out for the chance to play fun and competitive basketball with a great group of girls!

Badminton club is a great way to enjoy the sport for all and for those who just want to play for fun or even to learn!

CanFit Pro Personal Traning Specialist Certification

The Personal Training Specialist Course is a comprehensive in-class and online course designed to increase your knowledge and confidence level to train clients in a one-on-one or small group (2-3 people) setting. The course consists of on-line and in-class learning. The online course has been developed to provide an excellent online learning experience covering topics such as anatomy, biomechanics, and physiology. The comprehensive in-class course covers a wide range of topics preparing you for the exams and the career of a personal trainer! Course Dates: March 6th -8th, 2015

ECIS Standard First Aid and CPR “C”

ECIS takes a common-sense approach to First-Aid Training in a relaxed learning environment. Our facilitators are Registered Nurses, Paramedics, Firefighters or qualified professional H&S experts who combine theory with real-world experience. Participants gain the necessary skills and confidence to assist in an emergency situation until medical help arrives.
