Nancy Standlee Mixed Media Torn Paper High Heel Collage June 2, 2012 A one day torn paper collage workshop with Nancy Standlee means using recycled magazines, maps, labels, computer generated text, appropriated images, photos and other torn found paper to capture a paper painting in collage. No previous art experience is necessary and the student will learn basic collage methods of choosing a support, image selection and transfer, color choices, collage techniques, composition, and varnish. With lectures, demos, and handouts the student will complete a simple collage of a high heel while learning the basic techniques. (Guys are welcome so maybe a sneaker or a cowboy boots choice for you.) The class will work on a 12 square canvas and should be able to complete the collage during the class using easy to find materials. The supply list will be sent after registration. Nancy will be using a high heel for her demo and will work on it during the class showing the different techniques. The students may use a similar image to collage along with Nancy. Workshops can cause stress worrying about what to paint or collage and by knowing beforehand the reference will be provided, the student will be able to arrive ready to relax, learn and enjoy learning the process and then applying that knowledge to other collage paintings back in their own studio. Be prepared to come and have fun while learning basic techniques of collage with a group of new friends. Suggestion: Bring a smaller canvas 8x8 or 10x10, and an image for an additional collage if you think you will whip this out in record time. You never know. If you can no longer wear these lovely heels, collage a pair. Click here for Nancy’s Supply List. www.artistsoftexas.org/standleesupplylist.pdf

The goal is to learn how to edit the scene and grasp the essentials. We will focus on how to simplify the painting process by building forms with value while observing how to use color to affect intensity and contrast. You will be encouraged to show excitement and emotions to bring your painting alive. Express yourself in a bold and colorful way. Sheri will share her insight into the way in which she interprets the Texas landscape. We will be painting from photographs of scenes from her plein air experiences. Barbara Jones Oils, Still Life

The beauty of the ordinary is what I try to capture in my paintings. We are surrounded by unlimited opportunities to share with others the unique qualities of color, light and form that are part of our everyday lives. Too often we overlook the simple beauty of God’s creations or pass them by. Whether it’s the quiet glow of a sunlit morning, the softness of a cloudy afternoon or the interplay of colors and form in a still life arrangement–I try to capture in my paintings the unique light and atmosphere of my subjects. I work from life, and I want viewers to feel like they’re seeing what I’m seeing–on that day, in that place, in that way.
