The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it. W. M. Lewis

Money Problems After tucking their three-year-old child Sammy in for bed one night, his parents heard sobbing coming from his room. Rushing back in, they found him crying hysterically. He managed to tell them that he had swallowed a penny and he was sure he was going to die. No amount of talking was helping. His father, in an attempt to calm him down, palmed a penny from his pocket and pretended to pull it from Sammy's ear. Sammy was delighted. In a flash, he snatched it from his father's hand, swallowed, and then cheerfully demanded, "Do it again, Dad!"

ran across this story about a retired military person who was reminiscing about an inspection he conducted. When he approached an E-2 (private), freshly arriving from basic training in the States, he stopped face-to-face in front of this young man whose pulse could be seen throbbing in his throat. The first thing that caught this officer’s eye was an unbuttoned pocket on the shirt of the young enlisted man’s fatigue uniform. The officer barked out in his best command voice, “Button that pocket, soldier!” The young soldier turned three shades of red, looked to the left and right, and then sheepishly asked, “Right now, sir?” The officer answered: “Of course, right now. When did you think I meant for you to do it?” The young soldier then did something that is virtually considered close to treason in the armed forces. He handed the officer his weapon, and with both hands trembling he reached out and buttoned the flap on the officer’s shirt pocket. Why is it easier to see the speck in a brother’s eye than to see the plank in our own eye? - adapted from Neil Richey` “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye” (Matthew 7:3–5). All that we are is the result of what we have thought.

Mrs. Jones was reading a letter at breakfast. Suddenly she looked up suspiciously at her husband. "Henry," she said, "I've just received a letter from mother saying she isn't accepting our invitation to come and stay, as we do not appear to want her. What does she mean by that? I told you to write and say that she was to come at her own convenience. You did write, didn't you?" "Er, yes, I did," said the husband. "But I couldn't spell convenience, so I made it risk."

I have a fear of speed bumps, but I’m slowly getting over it.

“The difference between try and triumph is a little umph.”

HE BLEW OUT THE LAMP A man was traveling on foot through the desert. In a sandstorm, he became disoriented and lost his way. Determined to succeed on his journey, he pitched his tent and went in to wait out the storm. He lit his lamp, shook the sand out of his clothes, and searched his supplies for food. He quickly found a box of dates. The first one was bad—full of worms; he threw it to the ground. The second was the same; he tossed this one to the ground with the other. He pulled out a third and then a fourth, but each date was bad. Finally, he picked up the dates he had tossed onto the ground, blew out the lamp, and ate the dates! This is a very vivid picture of one who knows what is sin; can readily recognize sin; fully understands the consequences of sin, and yet turns a blind eye to sin and runs headlong into the sinful act! Dear friends, when we are confronted with the temptation to sin, we must beware that we do not “blow out the lamp” simply so we do not see the disgusting and sickening act! Whether we choose to see it or not, when we choose to eat the fruit of worldliness, we are swallowing destruction. —Ronnie Scherffuis “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put 0darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20).

PASSED NOTE A nearsighted minister glanced at the note that Mrs. Jones had sent to him by an usher. The note read: “Bill Jones having gone to sea, his wife desires the prayers of the congregation for his safety.” Failing to observe the punctuation, he startled his audience by announcing: “Bill Jones, having gone to see his wife, desires the prayers of the congregation for his safety.” “Rejoice with the wife of thy youth.” Proverbs 5:18

A man has no more character than he can command in a time of crisis. GOING UP A little boy got on the elevator in the Empire State Building in New York City. He and his daddy started to the top. The boy watched the signs flashing as they went by the floors: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70. They kept going, and he got nervous. He took his daddy’s hand and said, “Daddy, does God know we’re coming?”

It's Flu Season... It's not too late to take the flu vaccine. Unfortunately, it is flu season once again. The flu can be a serious disease and can affect people of all ages. The flu is spread to the nose or throat by contact with others who are infected. This can occur by simply handling items that were already handled by someone who is infected. Symptoms of the flu include headache, sore throat, fever, cough, chills, and muscle aches. The flu vaccination can prevent the flu from occurring and should be taken every year. Protection from the vaccination occurs in approximately two week after taking the shot and may last up to a year. People who are at high risk for developing serious complication from the flu should receive the flu shot every year include those who: ● age 65 years of age or older. ● have heart, lung or kidney disease. ● have diabetes, asthma, and blood disorders (such as anemia) FEBRUARY 2014 NOW IN OUR 6 YEAR

Normally, the best time to get the flu vaccine is between September and December. However, it is not too late to be vaccinated for this flu season. Call your physician if you are unsure if you should receive a flu shot or if you have questions about it.

Serving Our Community One Surgery At A Time Today's advancing medical technology has in-

creased the comfort, convenience, and safety of people around the world, and the field of surgery has seen particular benefits from the increase in knowledge. At Dale Medical Center, efforts to provide our patients the best, most up-to-date surgical techniques, so that patients can have many surgical procedures here at home. Traditional "open" techniques for many routine procedures - such as gallbladders, knee, or tonsil surgery - once required large incisions accompanied by long recoveries and pain. But newer, less invasive methods that utilize a few tiny incisions; long thin scopes, and even cameras result in less pain, faster recovery and shorter hospital stays for patients. In fact, many of these procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, putting patients back to their normal routines in no time.

"I had to slap his face three times!" "You mean he got fresh?" "No," she answered. "I thought he was dead!" All My life I thought air was Free… until I bought a bag of chips.

Sedation Dentistry Sedation Dentistry is a revolutionary way to accomplish your dental treatments without fear or anxiety. You dream…we work. Sedation Dentistry is often used during procedures that require an extensive amount of time in the treatment chair, and sedation is ideal for patients who exhibit dental phobia. Sedation Dentistry offers anxiety-free dental procedures as the patient is in a deeply relaxed state. though fully responsive. It means something even more important, a comfortable experience, so that little is felt or remembered from the dentistry procedure. When you awake, you are well rested, and your smile is healthier and more beautiful.

A Buddhist monk approaches a hotdog stand and says, "Make me one with everything." The vendor has heard this one before, and without a word he simply makes the hot dog and hands it to the Buddhist monk, who pays with a $20 bill. The vendor puts the bill in the cash box and closes it. "Excuse me, but where's my change?" asks the Buddhist monk. The vendor replies, "Change must come from within."

Shame occurs when you haven't been able to get away with the 'who' you want people to think you are. A Taliban was sitting in a cave when he hears over a dune the voice of one American solider: "One American solider are better than 10 Taliban fighters" so the Taliban angry sent over ten of his high-ranking soldiers. After a lot of gun fire and yelling and screams of agony the Taliban heard the voice again. "One American solider is better than 100 Taliban fighters" So the Taliban sends over 100 of his highest ranked soldiers sure of victory. After a lot of gun fire and yelling and screams of agony the Taliban heard the voice again. "One American solider is better than 1000 Taliban fighters" So the Taliban sent his toughest, meanest, personal guards over the dune. After hundreds of bullets fired, and explosions and the screaming and crying, it was over. The Taliban now wondering what happened goes over the dune where he finds a wounded Taliban solider who says "don't send any more men it's really a trap there is really two of them!"

nother hunting season has come and gone. I have been blessed this year with a nice eight point that provided meat for my family. I hunted this out of this stand where I killed this deer several mornings in a row and had no luck. It was a couple of weeks before Christmas. I was going to have knee surgery just before the holidays and I really wanted to get some meat in the freezer before my surgery and Christmas came. I decided to start hunting in the afternoon. I knew these deer had to be moving more in the late afternoon. So I decide to hunt the same stand I have been hunting. I figured if I would be patient that I would have success. There was deer sign all around in the area I was hunting. It was a cool Wednesday afternoon. The skies were clear and the wind was perfect. I got in the stand about 3:00. It was a wonderful quite afternoon. I knew that I would see something. Well as the time passed on I became more frustrated. I started losing hope as the sun was going down behind the trees. Just before the sun was setting I saw movement just on the edge of the food plot in the wood line. There was enough light I could see him as he walked out on to the food plot. I could tell he was a good size bodied deer. It wasn’t the biggest buck I have seen but he was a shooter. I put the cross hairs just behind the shoulder and pulled the trigger. His back legs kicked up in the air and he ran off in the bush. It was just over a hundred yard shot. The buck ran about another fifty yards and died. God blessed me with a good harvest that day and I was thankful. Are you waiting on God for something? Do you feel like that you have done all the correct things and it just doesn’t seem like it’s not going to come about? Just like this hunt, I did everything correct up to the point that I saw that buck. I had to wait and be patient. I stayed on course and hunted where I knew these deer were at. Waiting on God is not easy. We all know that God’s timing is better but we live in a society that demands results and demands them now. As Christians we fine our selves impatient with God. The best thing to do is to be patient. Wait on God. He will come through. He sees things we don’t see. You have to stay on course and be patient. God will reward you for it. Whatever it is you are waiting for it will come and it will be at the most perfect time. That’s the way God works. I hope you have had a successful season. Every year brings new opportunities to get out in God’s creation. I’m T.J. with Trails to God’s Great Outdoors. Get outside and enjoy God’s great outdoors. I’ll see you on the trail.

Open Book Test

By Wallace Kennedy, Jr

L

ife is an “Open Book Test” Can you remember being in school or maybe you are in school now? Most of the times the words “open book test” is like music to our ears. When there is no secrecy or concealment we breathe easy knowing that the answers are exposed we just have to read and look for them. However an open book test is not necessarily an easy test. Open book test teaches us how to find needed to know information, energizes our brain and require us to focus and look intensively for the answer. “To know the intended purpose of anything we must refer to the maker or creator of the thing”. God is the Creator of all things, and He gave us a Bible on how to live on earth….. (Operator’s Manual/Instructions) 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. Whatever in life you are being tested on: Marriage, Finances, Love, Sickness, Employment, Promotion, Rearing your children, Friends, Sex, etc… The Bible has the answers to every circumstance, situation or challenge we may be facing. Not only that, God’s gives us a “Tutor” The Holy Spirit living on the inside of us Who can and will: guide us to the truth, teach us all things, bring to remembrance of what we have learned, comfort, and give us insight before something happens. Remember my brothers and sisters, the Holy Spirit will never leave or abandon us.

“Your Hometown Dentist” Dear Readers, This month I'd like to start a new theme of articles entitled: Did You Know? Ok, here we go....Did you know? If you have an accident that breaks a piece of the front tooth off, due to the great bonding materials dentists have now, we can usually bond the piece back to the main part of the tooth! It's already a perfect match, so it is preferred over composite bonding whenever I can do that. SO, save the missing fragment and keep it hydrated! Did you ALSO know that the mouth of the Statue of Liberty is 3 feet wide? She'd be a great patient to work on! Until next month, Health and Happiness! Geoff Gaunt,DMD dothancosmeticdentistry.com
