Brad Kerr returns for his third season as a member of the Louisiana Tech softball coaching staff serving as the Lady Techsters hitting instructor. Kerr joined head coach Sarah Dawson and assistant coach Amber Miles prior to the 2010 season and promptly helped the Lady Techsters record the program’s third straight winning season as LA Tech posted a 26-21 mark, including an 11-10 record in the highly-competitive Western Athletic Conference. Under Kerr’s direction at the plate, Louisiana Tech recorded the second highest home run total in the program history totaling 43 as departed seniors Amberly Waits and Kylie Bassett both hit 10 each - the third most in the Lady Techster record books. Waits also recorded one of the most prolific seasons in Lady Techster history, batting .412 with 10 home runs, 31 RBI, 97 total bases and 40 runs scored. In his second season as a member of the staff, Kerr helped groom some up and coming freshmen as Cassie Krieg, Katelynn Hill and Erin Kipp all showed great strides at the plate late in the season. The trio combined to bat .410 with four home runs and 13 RBI over the final seven games of the season. Junior utility Janna Frandrup also had her most productive season at the plate earning second team all-WAC honors and first team all-state accolades. Kerr joined the Tech family after spending a year as an assistant varsity coach at Henley High School in Klamath, Oregon, where he worked for Dawson’s sister Ruth Strauch. He helped lead the program to the Oregon State Athletic Association Class 4A state championship game appearance. The 30-year-old was instrumental in developing a team that recorded a .355 batting average while eight players were named to the all-conference team and eight were named to the all-state squad. Kerr also spent two summers as an assistant coach with the Missoula Mavericks, one of the top American Legion baseball programs in the northwest where he helped lead them to back-to-back Western AA Conference championship titles. During those two seasons, the program had eight players named to the Western AA All-Conference team and five more named to the all-state team. In all, Kerr has coached seven players that have moved on to play collegiate baseball or softball. Kerr earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Montana in 2005 where he graduated with honors.
