LA SALLE COLLEGE PREPARATORY WELCOME 1

340 years ago, Saint John Baptist de La Salle began his quest to redefine learning. Together with a worldwide network of millions of Lasallian students and educators, we are proud to bring his spirit of love, care, service and excellence to students of the 21st century. La Salle College Preparatory was founded in 1956 as a Catholic school for boys. Today, we serve the greater Los Angeles area as the only truly diverse and co-educational Catholic high school in Pasadena. Each and every day, we work to offer our community of curious and capable students opportunities that develop and nurture personal growth through exploration and discovery. Whether engaging in a future-forward STEAM program or adventuring to a classic literary world for the first time, growing as a teammate on our championship-caliber athletic

teams, volunteering for a meaningful day of service, or participating in our award-winning visual and performing arts programs, La Salle College Preparatory’s students receive the powerful mentorship and instruction that transforms wonder into excellence. Perched atop our foundation of an incredible heritage 340 years in the making, we look to the future, inspiring and preparing our next generation of lifelong learners to leave a lasting, positive impact on their communities and on the world around them. Welcome to La Salle College Preparatory, where young adults discover their path to lifelong excellence.

Our Lasallian Core Principles

LA SALLE COLLEGE PREPARATORY

INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY

QUALITY EDUCATION

Unite Us With A Global Network of Lasallian Schools

We celebrate our inclusive, co-educational and diverse environment because it prepares our students for an increasingly global culture and economic landscape.

Our high-caliber academic program challenges our students in the classroom and our broad offering of co-curricular programs empower and enable our students to discover their path to excellence.

RESPECT FOR ALL PERSONS

CONCERN FOR THE POOR AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

FAITH IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD

Our diverse student-body fosters acceptance of all persons and enables spaces in which differing and opposing points of view can be shared and heard. We do not tolerate prejudice, bigotry or discrimination, because it has no place in the world.

We place a strong emphasis on service, through classes and opportunities to serve in our community and around the world. We do this to instill in our students a sense of responsibility; that their impact in addressing social challenges is needed and can be felt beyond our walls.

We are proud of the service, love and care that our Catholic faith and heritage unlocks in our community. We educate our students about the importance of faiths around the world and how faith is central to shaping values.

Our Co-ed Campus The advantages of being a co-ed institution extend well beyond the classroom. La Salle College Preparatory is proud to be the only Catholic, co-ed high school in Pasadena. By cultivating an environment reflective of the real world, we prepare students academically, socially, and emotionally for lifelong success. Consider the following about our co-ed environment: •  A co-ed environment better reflects the true diversity of our society •  We better prepare students to succeed in post-secondary education and in a modern workforce •  Collaboration in our classrooms helps develop confidence in students to excel as leaders at university and beyond •  It provides an excellent foundation for the development of realistic, meaningful and long-lasting relationships in life

THE BEST PREPARATION FOR THE COEDUCATIONAL WORLD WE LIVE AND WORK IN, IS COEDUCATION. DAILY INTERACTIONS BETWEEN DIFFERENT GENDERS FACILITATES EMPATHY, COMPASSION, HEALTHY ATTACHMENTS, AND STRENGTHENS THE LIFE SKILLS NECESSARY TO SUCCEED IN PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS. –Kris Mohandie '80, P '21, Ph.D. Clinical Psychologist & Author

Student Services Counseling Our College Counseling Center helps students effectively plan and negotiate the complicated academic, social, and emotional landscape of higher education, guiding students to the Colleges and Universities where they can thrive. Every student is different, and at La Salle our approach is to celebrate the individual gifts, talents and needs of each student.

Mentorship La Salle College Preparatory’s dedicated faculty and staff provide small student mentorship groups that help stimulate growth and development inside and outside the classroom. By building mentorship directly into the academic curriculum, our students are ensured the attention and opportunities that drive success.

Academic Support During the regular B Day schedule, students are encouraged to attend Academic Support at the end of the day. Operating like office hours at the collegiate level, this designated time allows for students to ask their teachers questions, make up any quizzes or tests they may have missed, and seek additional support to help them achieve academic success.

Our wrap-around services from academic advising, college counseling and the social & emotional personal counseling is a significant investment in our students.

Service to Others Every student–regardless of faith–receives guidance on their own spiritual journey, inside the classroom and through service opportunities in our community and around the world. These opportunities have shown to be transformative, with our alumni routinely citing them as instrumental in developing a lifelong commitment to giving back and serving others. Our graduates: •  Understand Catholic teaching and practice •  Respect and appreciate people of different backgrounds, talents, cultures, religions, and genders •  Practice Christian values by recognizing and responding with compassion to the needs of others, especially the poor Our four-year retreat program is designed to be an integral part of each student’s growth and development during their high school years. The Freshman and Sophomore Retreats emphasize service as part of their experience. The twoday Junior and Senior Retreats at Mt. Kare in Wrightwood allow students to grow in their faith and build upon their personal relationships with family and friends. Service is at the heart of what it means to be a Lasallian school. Every Senior student is required to enroll in our “Christian Life and Service” course, which combines their spiritual journey with practical service to the community with one of our Community Service Partners.

LA SALLE COLLEGE PREPARATORY

Hello and welcome to La Salle! At La Salle College Preparatory we have been educating students in the greater Pasadena area to Learn, Serve, and Lead for over 65 years. The roots of that special tradition stretch back more than 340 years to our founder St. John Baptist de la Salle and the Christian Schools he created with his fellow educators in France. De la Salle set a clear mission for his schools: they were to provide a spiritual and human education to the young, especially the poor. We continue that mission today and stay true to the spirit of our founder by constantly changing and evolving to best serve the students entrusted to our care at this time and in this place. That means that I can proudly and confidently say that La Salle’s academic and co-curricular programs are of the highest quality. We offer 24 AP courses, giving even the most academically gifted students ample opportunity to push themselves and be challenged. With courses ranging from forensic science, introduction to law, and digital game design, we give the teens entrusted to our care the opportunity to discover, grow, and learn about the world and themselves as they transition into young adults. But learning does not only take place in the classroom. It takes place on the field, the court, the stage, behind the camera, and in the lab. We are proud of our co-curricular programs that give students the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-life situations and become explorers and innovators. For some students that means debating public policy with speech and debate, creating a robot in our STEAM program, or traveling throughout the nation and world representing La Salle as part of our Academic Decathlon team. For others that means competing as part of our championship athletic program or performing with our music, theatre or dance programs. All of our students have the opportunity to find and pursue their passion while they are here. They do that in a setting that is diverse in every way. We are proud of our co-ed, ethnically and socio-economically diverse environment that reflects our shared world. We work to expand our students’ understanding of the world even further through a dedication to meaningful service learning at every grade level. I hope that you continue to learn about La Salle College Preparatory, its programs, students, and faculty. As you do, I believe you will find what makes La Salle so special and why so many students, alumni, and parents are so proud to be part of the Lancer Family.

Jamal Adams, M.Ed. Principal
