Recreation Center Age Limits

Please see pool age guidelines on page 11. Children under 12 years old must be directly supervised by an adult*. Recreation Center users, 12-15 years old, may use the fitness equipment and walking/ jogging track under direct supervision of an adult*. * Adult: age 18 & older. The City reserves the right to deny admittance to or suspend the membership of anyone who violates facility rules and regulations and anyone appearing to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Prices are listed as Resident / (Non-Resident). All Albany County Residents are eligible for resident rates. Household membership costs are based upon SIX (6) household members living in the same residence. An additional charge of $25 for an annual pass and $15 for a six month pass will be assessed for every household member beyond the initial six (6). Proof of residence is required for all individuals over the age of 18 and those that are unrelated to the primary or secondary adults listed on the household membership. Monthly billing is available for six month and annual memberships - a $1 convenience charge is applied to each monthly bill.

Prepare your team for another exciting year of Adult Basketball. We are offering three tiers for the Men’s Divisions and a Women’s League this year, so you can find the right fit for your team. Registration is for teams only, however the coordinator will try to assist individuals in finding a team. Teams will play 10 games, with a double elimination tournament at the end of the season. Schedules will be available at the informational meeting. Games will start January 19, 2016. Games will not be played the week of Spring Break for UW. Min/Max 4/20 teams **Teams may be moved between leagues based on the number of teams registered and competitiveness of the team. As summer wraps up and the evenings cool down it’s a good time to get your volleyball on. Get your volleyball team together and join us for an enjoyable season. There will be four divisions; Competitive Coed, Recreational Coed 1, Recreational Coed 2, and Women’s. An individual may play on both a Coed and a Women’s team. The season is ten games and a double elimination tournament, with all games being played at the Recreation Center. We only register teams, however we can probably help you find a team if you need. **Teams may be moved between leagues based on the number of teams registered and competitiveness of the team. Fitness Classes Fall Schedule Begins August 31st

Why Participate in Group Fitness Classes?

Individuals that regularly participate in group fitness classes are more likely to achieve their fitness goals due to motivation, community and accountability they get from their fellow participants. *Unlimited classes are “drop-in� classes listed on pages 6-7 and may include the specialty classes like Hydro Core (listed on page 14) if the minimum number of registrations for those classes has been met and there is space available. *Unlimited fitness passes allow you to attend as many fitness classes as you want and work around your hectic schedule! Unlimited fitness passes are purchased in conjunction with your 6 or 12 month Recreation Center membership. Membership details can be found on page 3 of the Guide.

Youth Teen Night @ the Rec Grab your friends and come on out to the Rec Center for swimming, inflatable fun in the 8-lane pool, a dodge ball tournament, Bingo and board game play-offs, open gym, music, and hanging out with your friends! A $5 admission fee includes pizza, drinks, and a chance to win prizes! Once you leave the building you cannot be re-admitted. Staff reserves the right to ask participants to leave for inappropriate behavior. Jr & Sr High School students Fee: $5 at the door, with or without Rec Center membership September 18

Junior Cowboys & Cowgirls Basketball The City of Laramie Parks & Recreation Department are teaming up with the University of Wyoming Athletics to bring an exciting youth basketball program to the Laramie community. This season will have a strong focus on fundamental training. In place of teams that practice separately and compete we will do training sessions twice a week with each gender/age group. The trainings/camps/ practices will focus on improvement in key aspects of the game. After practices we will divide into teams for scrimmages to practice the skills in game settings. The teams will be different every week to give players the opportunity to be exposed to different roles within a team. Each participant will receive a reversible jersey, UW team photo, and will have the opportunity to play on the court of the Arena Auditorium during halftime of a UW game. Registration deadline: Season runs January 4 - March 12

Our trained staff will supervise your children ages 6 months to six years old in the Recreation Center indoor playroom. Sign up is available for the upcoming month on Fridays beginning at 8am. Kids Krafternoons Come have an afternoon filled with fun, crafts and friends! These afternoons are led by trained youth staff and include an afternoon of theme-based arts and crafts. Your kids will spend the afternoon creating, having fun, making new friends, and will go home with a completed project. An afternoon snack will be provided. Youth

SACC After-School Program SACC is an enrichment program that supports working families by providing a safe, supervised after-school environment where their children are inspired to learn. Activities include theme-based clubs, recreational sports including swimming and ice skating, homework and tutoring, indoor and outdoor free time. A healthy snack is included each day, as well as a healthy dose of positive reinforcement! Students from all Laramie elementary schools are bused to the Recreation Center by ACSD #1 school buses. Days: All full ACSD #1 school days

School’s out, but SACC is IN! In addition to our daily after-school program, SACC will be in operation during the following days designated by ACSD #1 as Staff Development and Parent/Teacher Conference days. Pre-registration is required for each of these days and enrollments are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a maximum of 45 children accepted each day. The fee of $32 for Full Days, and $16 for HalfDays, must be paid at the time of registration. Please note: you do not have to be enrolled in SACC to register.

Private Rentals Reserving the Recreation Center Hosting an event? Planning a meeting? We have spaces available for meetings, events, classes, etc, that are ready for you to use. We can accommodate between 10 and 200 people, depending on the room and configuration. All events require a $300 damage deposit. Recreation Center Party Packages Party Packages are available on Saturdays and Sundays from Noon to 2:00 pm, or 3:00 to 5:00 pm, and must be scheduled at least 10 days in advance. Stop by the front desk of the Recreation Center to schedule your party! All Party Packages require a $300 deposit. Party Package #1: $56 ($60 non-members) This package is our most economical option and includes room rental for 1 hour and 10 Recreation Center admissions. Bring all your own party supplies and use our conference room or multi-purpose room for your party! Party Package #2 $148 ($156 non-members) This is a great option if you are looking for party activities! Choose one of the following... Sports Package: Includes a party host to coordinate sports-themed activities of your

The American Red Cross continues to lead the pack in swimming lessons. With the launch of the 2014 swimming lessons curriculum the Aquatics division is proud to offer a new & up to date swimming lessons program including: two new levels and a re-structure of skills. Our new program has been adapted to fit the needs of younger swimmers while continuing to refine and encourage advanced swimmers. Aqua Tots A : Aqua Tots A builds swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Parents and children participate in guided sessions that help children learn elementary skills. For 6 months to 2 years old. Aqua Tots B : Aqua Tots B builds on the skills learned in Aqua Tots A. Parents and children participate in guided sessions that help children learn the skills to continue into the preschool levels. Recommended for 2-3 years old. Preschool Intro : Preschool Intro is the first level of skill building after Aqua Tots B. Students learn to feel comfortable in water and enjoy the water safely. Students begin floating and basic skills. Recommended 3 to 6 years old. Preschool Basics : Preschool Basics is designed for children younger than 5 who have passed Preschool Intro and wish to develop swimming readiness. Skills from both Level I & II will be taught, just adapted for younger swimmers. Recommended 3 to 6 years old. Level I : Introduction to Water Skills Designed for the non-swimmer who wishes to develop swimming readiness. Must pass Preschool II or Level I and be 5 years or older to register. Level III – Stroke Development : Designed for those who have completed Level 2 (or equivalent), and swimming on their own. Skills taught: side breathing, changing directions, introduce front crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, treading water & dives. Level IV – Stroke Improvement : Designed for those who have completed Level 3 (or equivalent) and are ready to develop strokes and stamina. Private Swim Lessons Private Lessons are customized to each swimmer’s abilities and comfort level. Your instructor will develop a lesson plan focused on a specific skill set from multiple levels. If you have never learned to swim or need extra help private lessons can help you. Private lessons are available for all lesson levels depending upon instructor availability and are set up based on your availability. Ask for the private lesson form at the front desk. Each private lesson is 30 minutes long.

Adults who never learned to swim or would like to learn the fundamentals of staying afloat to increase personal safety and confidence around water this class is for you! Join us for a fun learning experience. Ages 16+.

Adult Private Lessons – Are customized to each swimmer’s ability and comfort level. Your instructor will develop a lesson plan focused on a specific skill set based around your interests and needs. If you have never learned to swim or need help with skill building, private lessons can help you.

Push and pull against the water using core strength to stabilize you as you work to tone muscles. We use a variety of gear including dumbbells, noodles and kickboards. All fitness levels can get leaner and stronger in this lowimpact workout. Instructor: Laura Shuler

Teach Your Child to Swim Lessons – Want to play a greater role in your child’s learning? With the knowledge and advice of the instructor YOU can learn how to teach your child to become more skilled and confident in the water! Parks Shawver Tree Fund The City of Laramie and Rotary Clubs of Laramie have partnered in memory of Chuck Shawver to create the Shawver Tree Fund. The fund is set up to replace dying, decayed and dangerous trees and to help provide additional trees within public use areas such as community entrance corridors or along City rights of ways where more trees are needed to fill in or extend shade tree plans, playlot parks, and new parks. Bandshell Painting and Repair The Washington Park Bandshell was originally constructed in the late 1930s. In the late 1990s the bandshell was repaired and re-painted. Ongoing maintenance of the bandshell is necessary to maintain this iconic structure. The bandshell will be repainted again in 2015 or early 2016.

Community Service Day Help lend a hand and beautify Laramie! Join us on Saturday, October 10th at the Recreation Center at 7:30a. The Community Service Day Committee will serve all volunteers a full hot breakfast. Participants will then work from 8:30a to approximately Noon planting trees along Snowy Range Road between I-80 and West Garfield Street. The City of Laramie, the Laramie Beautification Committee and the Laramie Community Service Day Committee encourages families, individuals, neighbors and friends to come out and work together for a morning to improve and beautify our community.

Fall Winterization

Imperial Heights Park The Imperial Heights Development Project Phase 1 is scheduled for construction in the spring of 2016. This phase of the project will focus on an accessible route to one of the playgrounds for the park as conceptually developed by the Imperial Heights Ad Hoc Citizen Advisory Committee.

Undine Park Gazebo The Undine Park Gazebo project is currently in conceptual design. Construction of the gazebo is anticipated to begin in the summer/ fall of 2016.

Scout Park Playground Development The Scout Park Development Project is underway. The City has hired a consultant to gather public input on the conceptual plan as developed in the late 1990s in preparation for site design for the park. Construction of the improvements is scheduled for spring 2016.

Bench and Tree Memorials Memorialize the memory of your loved one with a tree or bench placed in a City park. A plaque may be placed by memorials or donations if desired by the donor. The Parks & Recreation Department accepts donations of trees, shrubs and park benches for beautification and enhancement of the City Parks and Recreation areas. Prior to planting or installation, the Parks staff must approve the donation and the location. The donor may plant the tree or shrub they have donated with the assistance of Parks staff members. All tree donations and memorials purchased from the City are invoiced at wholesale cost.

With winter right around the corner, parks staff will be closing the restrooms throughout the parks system in late September and winterizing our irrigation systems in early October for the duration of winter to protect these community assets from freezing. Adopt a Park Program

Individuals, groups or organizations who wish to reserve picnic shelters or any recreation facilities such as the sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, softball fields, or basketball courts in any of the city parks must make reservations at least five days in advance. Reservations may only occur within the hours of 7am to 9pm. Please call 721-5269 with questions or to check on shelter availability. To process your reservation we must have a completed facility reservation form, payment and damage deposit. Please note all park reservation fees are non-refundable. Please refer to our facility reservation form or the website for full information on fees. Open Container Permits If you will be consuming alcohol at your event in one of Laramie’s Parks, you will need an open container permit. Permits are issued with park facility reservations and permit applications must be made a minimum of five days prior to your event. Dog Park Etiquette When you and your canine companion are enjoying one of the Dog Friendly Off-Leash Areas be sure to abide by the dog park etiquette listed below. Dog park etiquette allows everyone to fully enjoy these great community amenities in a safe manner. • You must clean up after your pet(s) • Dogs must be leashed when outside the dog friendly off-leash area • No aggressive dogs • Dogs residing in the City of Laramie must be licensed • All dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations • Limit 3 dogs per person • No infants or small children under the age of 5 • No puppies under 4 months • No human food • Dog treats permitted • No dogs unattended; owners must accompany pets within the dog friendly off-leash area • Children must be supervised • You must carry a leash at all times • Keep gates closed In rare occurrences, should a user become a nuisance, whether in the dog friendly off-leash area or in any of the parks, they can be ejected from the park under Chapter 12.52.050 and 12.52.060 Parks Rules and Regulations.

Laramie Ice & Event Center The Ice and Event Center is open October 1, 2015 through March 13, 2016. We offer public skating times, as well as hourly rentals available for leagues, tournaments, clinics, birthdays, school skates, and group parties.

Our annual Free Day of skating for Albany County residents will be held on Saturday, October 10th from 1-3pm and 4:30-6:30pm. Join us to help celebrate the opening of another ice season! Entry for public skate will be free, regular skate rental fees will apply.

Skate Sharpening & Equipment A better skating experience awaits you with sharp skates. Our trained staff sharpens hockey and figure skates overnight. We also have available for purchase sock tape, stick tape, mouth guards, hockey wax, skate guards, laces, anti-fog wipes, and helmet repair kits. Fees: $5/pair; sharpen w/ new laces $10/pair

Rental Skates We rent figure and hockey skates from toddler’s size 6 to men’s size 14. Helmets are available free upon request and are strongly recommended for all skaters.

Group Skate Times Some private ice rental times for groups are available, hourly group rates begin at $200/hour and include skate rental. All reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made 10 days in advance. No alcohol or tobacco products are permitted on the premises. Ice & Events Center Party Packages Need a space and activity for your next birthday party? Book one of our party packages for your group and leave the work to us! All Party Packages require a $300 deposit. Ice Party Package #1 : $105 Includes party room rental for 2 hours, 10 admissions and skate rentals, and 10 gift certificate ice passes to use at a later date. Ice Party Package #2: $150 Includes party room rental for 2 hours, 10 admissions and skate rentals, a party host, hot dogs and juice for 10, and 10 gift certificate ice passes to use at a later date. *Additional guests can be added to either package for $10 per person. Ice Ice Skating Lessons The Ice Skating Institute weSkate Program is taught at the Laramie Ice and Event Center. It is geared toward teaching correct technique in the basic elements of ice skating. Individuals complete the Tot 1-4 and then move up to PreAlpha, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta. This program appeals to a wide range of interests and encourages skating as a lifetime sport. The use of rental skates is included during lessons. A brief skills test is administered the first class day to ensure each skater is placed in his/her appropriate level. To enroll in each skate level, the skater must meet all prior level skills. ISI membership is required for all levels in order to be able to test into the next level. Min/Max: 6/12 per class session. Tot 1 -4 lessons for ages 3-5, Pre-Alpha - Delta lessons for ages 6-18. Tot 1: No skating experience needed. Proper way to fall and get up, marching standing position, marching while moving. Tot 2: Pass Tot 1 or two-foot jump in place, forward swizzle standing still, single swizzle, beginning two-foot glide. Tot 3: Pass Tot 2 or push and glide stroking, preparation for snow plow stop, dip, forward swizzle Tot 4: Pass Tot 3 or T-position and glide,

Ice Fall Skating Exhibition Come join us as a performer or in the audience for our Winter Figure Skating Exhibition! This annual winter ice event gives you the chance to show off your new skills by performing a program of your choosing. Registration for the program includes 6 Friday afternoon practice sessions (10/23-11/27 4-5:30pm), and your solo ice time at the show. Youth Speed Skating

ISI Membership The Laramie Ice and Event Center is an administrative member of the Ice Skating Institute. As a member, we utilize the ISI weSkate program. Individual skaters enrolling in our weSkate program will automatically be enrolled as individual ISI members. Membership allows the skater to participate in ISI competitions, including the National Holiday on Ice competition. Membership is good for one year and expires on August 31 annually.

This class is open to both past participants and youth who have never tried the sport. Get an introduction to speed skating techniques and competitions with an emphasis on fun. Certification Testing Official ISI testing is a permanent achievement that goes on your skating record. ISI membership is required to test. Ice Learn to Curl Come out and join some of our top team curlers and find out what the sport is all about. You will learn a little bit about the sport as well as ice set-up and technique and rules for curling. All sessions will be similar, but feel free to come to more than one if you’d like a little more practice! Registration will be taken at the door just before the session. Ages: 10 years and up

Adult Co-ed Broomball

Adult Curling League Each team consists of four players, each throwing four stones in one direction and then throwing in the opposite direction. The players who are not throwing may sweep his/ her partner’s stone. Using standard curling scoring, only one team may receive points for each end. During normal league play, ties will be allowed to stand. During tournament play, additional ends will be completed until one team wins. Teams may concede at any time, however once a team is mathematically eliminated, the game will end. Registration accepted November 16-December 14. Managers organizational meeting January 3 at 11am. What is Turkey Curling, you say? Well, it’s just like old-fashioned curling on the ice, but instead of stones, we’ll use frozen turkeys! This event is a food drive for local food-distributing organizations just in time for Thanksgiving! We hope you will get together a team (or more than one!) and challenge another team to a turkey-tossing duel. Teams will be set up in a single-elimination tournament, with matches lasting about 30 minutes each. This is a great spectator sport, bring your friends to cheer on your team, we accept canned goods as a spectator fee, all items collected will be donated to local food banks. Come at 11am for a “learn to curl” lesson if this is your first experience with the sport! Min/Max: 10/16.
