Performing Arts Dare yourself. Our expanding Performing Arts program will give you butterflies, the giggles and the confidence you are looking for. Expand and develop your acting strengths with Studio 58. We are excited to be offering the Studio 58 Weekend Intensive, Acting Through Improv 1 and Acting Through Improv 2. Speak Up and Stand Out can take help you overcome fears and take you to the next level in public speaking. Comedy is the key for many. Our unique and specialized clinics and writing courses push you to find that silly button and use it.

Acting Through Improv 1 PERF 1005 Using improvisational games and theatre exercises students will learn the basic skills and tools actors use to create characters and build scenes. Emphasis is on group work and physical and vocal exploration. Perfect for anyone curious about the acting process and those who are considering auditioning for Studio 58. This is strictly an improvisation class with no written text.

Scene Study PERF 1007 A practical and playful approach to scene study. From choosing appropriate scenes to memorization and getting a scene staged or audition-ready, participants learn how to explore text through improvisation and theatre games. Excellent for beginners or those who want to brush up on their skills and learn new techniques.

Acting and Character PERF 1019 Discover and explore how to use your body, voice, and imagination as tools for creating character. Through physical/vocal and textual exploration you will develop an understanding of your own habits, enhance your capacity for physical and vocal expression, and expand your creative abilities with the imaginative work of the actor. Speak Up and Stand Out PERF 1033 Take your next presentation, audition, speech, or interview to a new level. Gain confidence and overcome fears while developing and refining techniques for speaking in public. Learn to find and use your authentic voice through breathing, relaxation, and acting techniques. Comedy Writing: An Introduction PERF 1002 This course is designed to introduce students to the process of finding “the funny” by approaching comedy writing as a creative problem-solving activity. Through discussions and in-class exercises students learn the mechanics of idea construction and execution, and gain an understanding of how to generate funny ideas and get them down in print. Ideal for fiction writing, screenwriting, and stand-up.
