The part-time program is flexible and runs on evenings and weekends. Students do not apply to the program but register to a course. They can take an individual course and/or build up the requisite hours and courses for certification. The certificate program has been designed to ensure that students will be fully prepared to enter the film industry with comprehensive training and a professional portfolio. Program Structure For certification, students must complete a minimum of 495 hours (49.5 ILUs) of instruction that includes 261 hours (26.1 ILUs) of required courses, 96 hours of graduation projects and 234 hours (13.8 ILUs) of electives, including at least one practical course. Students should allow 1.5 to two years to complete this program. Students will complete a number of assignments and a graduation project that includes producing a production package and film, taking into account a small budget for their production. Required Courses (26.1 CEUs, 261 hours): Level 1 • Art of Camera Lighting (1.8 CEUs, 18 hours) • Dramatic Film Production (1.8 CEUs, 18 hours) • Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking (1.8 CEUs, 18 hours) • Independent Film Production (1.8 CEUs, 18 hours) • Introduction to Digital Video Making (3.0 CEUs, 30 hours) • Editing and Post-Production Processes (1.8 CEUs, 18 hours) • The Documentary Shoot (2.4 CEUs, 24 hours) • The Role of the Director - Level 1 (2.1 CEUs, 21 hours) • The Practicum Graduation Project (9.6 CEUs, 96 hours, no class time provided)
