remain up-to-date with new technology. Obviously, this change has pushed all the staff to enroll in training sessions to be able to use all these new devices and its apps. The project aims at enhancing the use of new technologies in order to raise students’ interest and motivation in the learning process.

A HIGHLY MOTIVATED STUDENT IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS PILE

The Project PILE (Pla Integrat de Llengües Estrangeres) is classified as learning English following the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning Methodology) approach. This approach involves learning subjects in English as a vehicular language.

PILE

In the 1st and 2nd of ESO, apart from the three-hour English Language subject, students are doing a 3-hour elective subject on Natural and Social Science in English. They are studying concepts such as photosynthesis, the water cycle etc. in English. This enables them to widen their range of vocabulary. Thus, students are taking six learning hours per week in English. Our scholar curriculum for 3rd of ESO involves not only the English Language subject but also Social Science (Geography) and Journalism in English. And finally, in the 4th of ESO, the English Language subject as well as Social Science (History) and Ethics are taught in English too. Thus, this language project means that at the last stage of Secondary Education our students are studying nine hours of English on a weekly basis, giving them those 6 extra hours compared to other secondary schools in the area.

European partnerships All the European projects are conceived and written in order to easily fit into the students’ curriculum and to be fulfilled in a cross-curricular way. This helps enormously in enabling all the students from one level (two groups) to get involved in the project and allows teachers from different subjects to work in coordination to carry out a wide variety of activities.

SINCE S.I. LA MIQUELA IS A SMALL STATE SCHOOL, THE EUROPEAN PROJECTS ARE AIMED AT AS MANY STUDENTS AS POSSIBLE, NOT ONLY IN ACTIVITIES BUT ALSO IN MOBILITIES

In 2011/2013, we took part in a Regio Comenius partnership in the Lifelong Learning Programme. Leg@mi di Parole is made up of two European regions: Abruzzo, an area known as "The Green Area of Europe" and the
