What is a mindful moment

What is a “Mindful Moment?” There are eight “Mindful Moment” exercises found in my newest book Buddha Standard Time, one for each chapter. These techniques offer advice and practices to incorporate into your day. They are tools which will allow you to begin to transform your old relationship with time, showing you how to slow down, be present, and embrace time’s infinite possibilities. “Mindful Moments” are designed to fit anyone’s lifestyle and do not require specific training or extensivetime. Below is a sampling of a “Mindful Moment.” A Breath Break Sitting in a quiet place—ideally, outdoors in nature, but indoors, if you like— bring all of your attention to your body as you fill your lungs with one deep, deep breath… and then let it out in a long sigh… If you are truly attentive, your mind will be clear of all distractions for ten whole seconds, while your body is nourished with extra oxygen and your heart is touched with a little divine peace. Even with only one breath cycle, you may have felt a touch of serenity, a little loosening of your jaw, and an ability to think more clearly afterward. So simple, a trip to Natural Time! Try it again. Three breaths or more might be needed, depending on your own selfawareness and inclination: Breathe deep Smile Relax… For more information about Lama Surya Das, or about his workshops, books, and classes, please visit his website at Surya.org.
