80-Game Home Winning Streak • Lamar won 80 consecutive games on its home court from 1978-84 • The streak ranks as the 7th best all-time NCAA mark behind: 129 - Kentucky, 1943-55; 99 - St. Bonaventure, 1948-61; 98 - UCLA, 1970-76; 86 - Cincinnati, 1957-64; 81 - Marquette, 1967-73; 81 Arizona, 1945-51
The streak started in McDonald Gym on Feb. 18, 1978 with a 59-54 win over Southland Conference rival Arkansas State. Coach Billy Tubbs started the streak with 31 wins in McDonald Gym.
The streak ended March 10, 1984 with a 68-65 loss to Louisiana Tech in the Beaumont Civic Center in the SLC postseason tournament championship game. Coach Pat Foster won six games in McDonald and 43 times in the Civic Center.
Lamar has continued its winning ways in the Montagne Center. The Cardinals’ 14-2 home record in 2007-08 is their best-ever in the 10,080-seat arena.
