SHERRON WILKERSON ASSISTANT COACH Second Season Sherron Wilkerson is entering his second season with the Lamar Cardinal basketball team after being hired as an assistant on July 17, 2012. Wilkerson played professionally for nearly a decade following his college career and has coached at the high school, AAU and college levels. A 1993 McDonalds All-America as a high school senior at Jeffersonville (Ind.) High School, Wilkerson played for the legendary Bob Knight at Indiana before completing his collegiate career at Rio Grande University. While a Hoosier, Wilkerson was a teammate of LU head coach Pat Knight.

Wilkerson coached one season at Indiana University Southeast, helping the Grenadiers to a 21-11 record during the 2010-11 season. He served as the head coach at Indianapolis’ Herron Charter School in 2007-08 and has guided several AAU squads to state prominence. Wilkerson, who earned his Bachelor of Arts and Humanities degree from IU in 2008, and his wife Carissa have a 17-year old daughter named Brooke.

During his professional career, Wilkerson played for Pat Knight with the Wisconsin Blast of the International Basketball Association. Wilkerson made several stops throughout Europe before closing out his playing career with BC-Haifa (Israel) in 2004.
