Capturing her fourth career Symetra Tour title, Rachel Liu won the socially distanced FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship at Battle Creek Country Club in Michigan in July. Liu started the final round with a three-shot advantage and finished the tournament with a 13-under par overall.

A Letter from the President Welcome to Lake Nona, a community unlike any other. While the pandemic has challenged us in a number of unforeseen ways, one aspect of our lives has held true: the power of community. We are so grateful that our members and residents have not only chosen to be a part of Lake Nona Golf & Country Club but have showed such strength and optimism throughout this time. The Club staff has demonstrated incredible patience, flexibility and resiliency in shaping our “new normal.� Through adaptive offerings, reimagined events and the pursuit to continually elevate the member experience, the Club continues to thrive as it remains a safe haven for its members and their families. Following a successful summer season, highlighted by an extensive golf course irrigation renovation project and sold-out Nona Crew Summer Camps, the Club also added a new pontoon boat to the growing list of lifestyle amenities, introduced enhanced technology with a new member text service and expanded its mobile reservations app to include various Club amenities and online ordering. With the arrival of fall, we look forward to hosting a safe and modif ied set of events, including our annual Autumn Classic golf tournament and an active calendar of holiday celebrations. Outside the gates, the Lake Nona Region welcomes a few new tenants to Lake Nona Town Center. SIMCOM Aviation Training plans to open its new global headquarters and training facility here in 2022. The f ive-acre site will include 12 full-flight simulator bays and train an estimated 10,000 pilots per year. The Lake Nona Performance Club (LNPC), a state-of-the-art f itness, sports and integrative health center, is under construction in Town Center. Scheduled to open summer 2021, LNPC is dedicated to advancing the pursuit of wholeperson health and community wellbeing. You can read more about this new addition on page 59. Despite the trials and tribulations this year has brought, we are excited about the collaborative partnerships and innovation that continues to develop in the Region. We look forward to serving you for many years to come.

Beyond the main play, junior golfers have the Sunley Course, a short set of tees perfectly suited for those learning the game. A beloved play since its establishment, Lake Nona’s golf course continues to evolve with

THE PINNACLE OF WOMEN’S GOLF This year, the Solheim Cup — the women’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup — celebrates its 30th anniversary of bringing together the best female golfers f rom Europe and the U.S. in a headto-head tournament. Karsten and Louise Solheim, founders of PING golf equipment company and creators of the Solheim Cup, wanted to bring more recognition to women’s golf through an international team tournament. The Solheims’ were longtime supporters of the LPGA Tour and began sponsoring women’s golf events in 1975. The inaugural Solheim Cup was held at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in 1990 with Team USA securing the win, 11 ½ to 4 ½. In celebration of the tournament’s anniversary, we sat down with Annika Sorenstam, a beloved Lake Nona member and eight-time participant in the Solheim Cup, for a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to be inside the ropes.

You have a lengthy history with the Solheim Cup. Could you give a quick summary on your background with the tournament? I would say it’s one of the highlights of my career. You know, golf is an individual sport and Solheim is a team event where you get together with players you compete against almost every week. We play match play, so it’s very different than a normal tournament. I’ve always enjoyed it. I was lucky to play in eight of them. I was vice captain in three and captain in one. This upcoming year I will be the captain for the European PING Junior Solheim Cup Team. It’s a big part of my history. I love it - great memories, great fun, super competitive. It has been the highlight of my career.

We’ve been in the community for 20 out of the 30 years it has been in existence so its really come full circle. A lot of synergy, a lot of fun, a lot of coming all together. It’s been a big part of my career and will continue to be.
