UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL & REGIONAL MATERNITY LIMERICK

3 3 3 3

Minister Jan O’Sullivan and Cllr. Elena Secas

I have fought hard at cabinet to deliver funding for our local hospitals. I am delighted with the €16,000,000 million allocation for the new extension due to open in November. This will include a 24 bed stroke unit, a 9 bed cystic fibrosis unit, a dermatology unit and a new symptomatic breast unit. Funding is also provided for the reopening of a 25-bed capacity ward. These new units will alleviate the pressure for bed spaces in the main hospital building in addition to the recently opened critical care unit. I also wish to acknowledge the great work done by various local charities in fundraising for these new facilities. I have also worked hard to secure Capital Development Funding to commence the project of relocating theThis Regional Maternity project which includes a n to the grounds of the University Hospital from the Ennis Road in Dooradoyle thereby creating a new and state-of-the-art multidisciplinary hospital campus.

INTERNATIONAL FILM STUDIO TO BE LOCATED IN CASTLETROY Following confirmation by Limerick City and County Council of the €6m purchase of the old Dell 350,000ft² building in Castletroy. I am supporting the negotiations and work to develop a major film and television production studio in tandem with Ardmore Studios is well advanced. I am pleased that we have been able to deliver tax incentives as part of Budget 2016 to support this industry. This development has the potential to establish a film industry in Limerick creating hundreds of jobs locally in partnership with local agencies including our world renowned School of Art & Design College.

JOB CREATION Over the last four years every effort has been made to ensure that our economy recovered from the wreckage we inherited when Fianna Fail left Government. In Limerick I am pleased that both existing multinational companies such as Vistakon and Regeneron are expanding with new buildings and Uber have chosen to locate their new European headquarters in the heart of the City. Over 5,000 people in Limerick have now left the unemployment register since 2011 and I will continue to work hard to ensure that every opportunity is made available to those still looking to find suitable employment locally.

CONSTITUENCY WORK For far too long real delivery of schools, community facilities and jobs in the area has been neglected but I am proud to be your Minister that is now delivering these facilities. I will continue to work tirelessly on your behalf. I hope to meet with you over the coming months in your area and at my clinics. Also you are welcome to visit me at my constituency office which is located in the Mechanics’ Institute, Hartstonge Street.
