12. First Elimination ChambEr matCh Survivor Series 2002

◆◆◆◆◆◆ In the end, HBK made history by winning the first EC Match and his first World Heavyweight Championship.

11. EdgE vs. miCk FolEy Hardcore Match: WrestleMania 22

◆◆◆ We’d say watch it again, but we were all pretty exhausted after having seen it the first time.

10. shawn miChaEls vs. Chris JEriCho WrestleMania XIX

◆ This contest pushed both Superstars to their limits, and both seemingly walked away with respect—that is, until Jericho kicked HBK below the belt on the way out.

9. triplE h vs. stonE Cold stEvE austin No Way Out 2001

◆◆◆◆ In WWE’s first-ever Three Stages of Hell Match, The Game and The Rattlesnake set the standard for one of the most dangerous stips of the past two decades.

8. John CEna vs. randy orton Anything Goes Iron Man Match: WWE Bragging Rights 2009

◆◆ These two Superstars combined for one of the most intense hours in recent WWE history.

7. thE roCk vs. hulk hogan WrestleMania X8

◆ Although The Great One walked away the victor, the Toronto SkyDome stood by The Hulkster throughout, as the torch was passed from one icon to another.

6. rEy mystErio vs. EddiE guErrEro SummerSlam 2005

◆◆ During this lucha-fueled classic between former best amigos, Eddie and Rey revolutionized how to use a ladder with in-ring creativity. At stake was custody of Rey’s son, and the legacy of the Mysterio name.

5. undErtakEr vs. triplE h Hell In A Cell End Of An Era: WrestleMania XXVIII

◆◆ After Undertaker hit the final nail in the cofin with a Tombstone, the bitter rivals leaned on each other—and Special Guest Ref, Shawn Michaels—as they exited the ring, battered, bruised, and nearly broken, showing the ultimate sign of respect.

4. EdgE & Christian vs. thE hardy boys vs. thE dudlEy boys, WrestleMania X-Seven

◆◆◆◆ This match—dubbed TLC II—served as the show-stealer of WrestleMania X-Seven, thanks to the high-flying, death-defying ofenses on display from all three of these Ladder Match daredevil teams.

3. thE roCk vs. John CEna WrestleMania XXVIII

◆ The term “Dream Match” gets thrown around a lot in this business. But with this particular encounter, one Superstar representing WWE’s present, and one representing its past, waged war to determine the company’s future. And so, here, even the expression “Dream Match” doesn’t do one bit of justice to this barn burner.

2. Cm punk vs. John CEna Money In The Bank 2011

◆◆ The match itself was physically tremendous, with action swinging both ways before the unthinkable occurred—CM Punk won, and then, bailed with the WWE Championship in tow.

1. shawn miChaEls vs. undErtakEr WrestleMania XXVI

◆◆◆ WWE Magazine boldly declared this match the greatest WrestleMania main event of all time. And we stand by that claim. So, not to put it at the top of this list would be hypocritical, blasphemous, and, most importantly, incorrect. The Career vs. The Streak Match captured EVERYTHING WWE represents, and resulted in the two greatest in-ring Superstars of all time leaving EVERYTHING they had in the middle of the ring. For The Deadman, that meant being tested in a way in which no Superstar, past or present, had ever tested him before. And, for Shawn Michaels, the contest meant the conclusion of his illustrious career. Never once did we doubt we were witnessing history. october 6 on Pay-Per-View WWe battleground
