My aim is to speculate on the concepts of enchantment and neglect. The film Urbicide is both utopian and dystopian: a closed space in a state of permanent construction/deconstruction. This is seen in the silence, suddenly broken by a displaced sound. The landscape in the video is built up by the camera’s eye, recording backwards: the space; the perspectives; the interplay of mirrors reflecting, cutting off and breaking up more than 15 metres of railway track. This means that freedom is an illusion, and that the seemingly enormous space is in fact very restricted. The first thing people
see is the beauty – only afterwards do they notice the boundaries everywhere.

A painting is a metaphor for reality. By playing with the concept of painting, I am indirectly playing with perceptions of reality. I do this using ‘shaped canvases’ that mean the background itself also becomes an image. These ‘shaped canvases’ are usually actually made from canvas; this gives the painting a whole different set of associations than panel, for instance. The black disc is a recurring element. It is the most minimal form we are still able to conceive of in visual terms. It is a reference point in the work,
and the meaning of what is depicted is determined in relation to the black hole, and vice versa.

My sculptures give a spatial suggestion. They deny or confirm this dimension. Taking the spatial as our starting point gives rise to new and different scenes than those arising from a twodimensional surface. But what happens if these two visions are combined? My various elaborations on this theme can be seen in this exhibition. In the folding sculptures, I investigate the integration and combination of different dimensions; the composition constantly changes as you look at it from different viewpoints.
This creates a voyage of discovery for the viewer. With my photos, I look for the boundaries of the denial of the threedimensional shape that once was. This alienation is a starting point; my work often develops in a process towards unexpected outcomes.

My films are all about movement – making use of old methods, new technology and everything and anything I can find around me. My work goes back to the origins of animation. A medium that is constantly in flux, but in a way also stands still. I try through my ideas to present this stasis visually, eliminating the thin line between fiction and reality and giving full reign to the world of
the imagination. What interests me is making use of and being inspired by the everyday, and I reflect this through the essence of animation. For this exhibition, I am for the first time concentrating on making just one scene. This work is a response to my last short film, in which I show trotting buffalo to spectators lining the railway using stencils on a freight train,.

My work consists of oil paint on canvas in various formats. Over the years, I have developed a visual language that principally leads to confusion and alienation. The images reveal themselves instantly, but then again not at all. They are built up from fragments taken both from imagination and reality. This led me to assemble an archive of photos of birds, insects and amphibians. Often taken
from the archives of museums, and from taxidermists, among others. I then place and incorporate these into my paintings in such a way that they enter a twilight zone. I situate ‘a space’ within which strange scenes take place and where twodimensionality and depth play a major role.
