Dear Members and Guests:
We celebrate the seventh edition of the Kroc Center Catalog signifying the two year anniversary of The Salvation Army Kroc Center of Chicago. We enter another season and chance to grow in our bodies, minds, and souls at the Kroc Center. In Luke 10:27, Jesus commands us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with your entire mind, and, love your neighbor as yourself.” This is a great challenge from God’s Word as we utilize the Kroc Center. We have always enjoyed the spring and fall seasons for the change in weather and the landscape. Summer, can seem uneventful when it comes to plants and the landscape. However, the seeds that were planted in the spring are germinating and growing all summer to be harvested in the fall. The work that was done in the spring will bring a great bounty of fruit in the fall. Though the planting is over, growth through water and summer sunshine has to continue so that the plants can produce fruit. The same is true for our physical bodies, our spiritual lives, our minds, and personal relationships. We have planted some ideas, new techniques and disciplines to improve our health. Now, we need to continue to water those exercises in the summer so that the fruits of our good work will be seen in the fall. The same is true for our spiritual lives. The seeds that Jesus planted for us through his resurrection at Easter, must continue to grow in our personal study of His word, our growth in our faith and our service to others so that His fruit will be seen in our lives. Our prayer is that we will all continue to grow in our minds, bodies, and spirits through the opportunities we have at the Kroc Center. We pray, as well, that we will take every opportunity to tell our families and friends of this great Center so that they too, can take advantage of the growth from summer that will help bring them a harvest of health in the fall. Let’s celebrate, let’s get healthy, let’s have fun, and let’s serve as we love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind.
Blessings – Majors David & Darlene Harvey

Hi-Lo Impact Infusion (All Levels)
Hi-lo aerobics classes are an effective means of burning calories. While 25 minutes of low-impact aerobics burns 205 calories in a 155-pound person, 25 minutes of high-impact aerobics burns 260. A strictly high-impact aerobics class may be too intense for beginners, but a combination of high- and low-impact exercises provides efficient calorie burning without the intimidation of a high-impact class. Hi-lo combination classes also allow you to choose the best intensity level for your current level of fitness. For example, if the class is performing jumping jacks, you may opt to march in place instead if you are just returning to fitness after an illness or injury.

The Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls are proud partners with The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center and The Salvation Army. A year ago, CharitaBulls and Chicago White Sox Charities made a combined donation of $2 million to support the completion and endowment of the Kroc Center, which features a lighted baseball and softball field on the campus, and a basketball court with a floor that looks just like the United Center. The Kroc Center offers a broad array of sports programs, as well as arts and educational opportunities for people of all ages on the far South Side of Chicago.

TO BUIlD A BETTER TOMORROW From the EnergizaBulls fitness program, to Chicago Bulls Training Academy camps, to special days at U.S. Cellular Field and the United Center, the Bulls and the White Sox organizations have brought their unique brand of fitness and sports programs to thousands of children and adults served by The Salvation Army. The White Sox amateur elite youth teams now play on the lighted outdoor ball field that includes a replica U.S. Cellular Field scoreboard. In August 2012, more than 200 White Sox volunteer corps members pitched in to help The Salvation Army, the Chicago White Sox Charities and KaBOOM! build a playground in just one day on Friday, August 10. The newly constructed playground is a safe place to play and learn for the more than 800 children that visit The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center every day. “We are so proud to partner with The Salvation Army,” said Christine O’Reilly, Senior Director of Community Relations and Executive Director of the Chicago White Sox Charities. “We are here for the long haul.” The Salvation Army celebrates the Chicago Bulls Charities and Chicago White Sox Charities for all they do throughout the year, and throughout Chicagoland to enhance the lives of millions of children and young adults.
