REFLECTIVE STATEMENT

I am an illustrator, visual communication designer and writer from New Delhi, India. I am currently pursuing my final grad project and will be graduating from the Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore in December. I also have an Honours degree in English Literature from Delhi University lying in my cupboard. I have served as a writer, editor, tarot reader and sex columnist for several journals and newspapers. Before that I was in this village in the middle of a desert studying statistics and computer architecture. If variety is the spice of life, my life is a plate of tandoori chicken. And that’s how I like my work. Varied. Paradoxical. Colourful. Full of life. Welcome to my world. Stop. Breathe. Observe.

Reflective Statement Simplicity + utility + emotion. These three words sum up the definition of good design for me. Any product, no matter how well constructed, cannot be successful if it does not add the value of meaning to its consumers’ existence. People resonate not with a product itself but the belief that leads to its creation. Keeping this in mind, as a design practioner, I constantly try to understand people before creating. Inculcating this sensitivity helps me to design for a diverse range of needs, and keep innovating.

LICHTENSTEINWARHOLRAUSCHENBERG He is most known for his oversized dot art which he, though he painted them painstakingly, wanted to appear as machine made. His work was witty and ironic, and he often used screenprinting to make his cartoon art prints. His work still serves as inspiration in contributions to pop art today.

TRADE

Andy Warhol is credited for popularising screen print, changing its mass perception, and establishing his distinct style by employing it in pop art. Warhol used it to create what are now iconic posters of famous bands and celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, etc.

commercialiZe

Cited as one of the most important forerunners of American Pop Art, he was known for transferring photographs onto canvas by means of the silkscreen process. He also experimented mixing it with lithography to create 'hybrid' prints. He used these methods make a commentary on contemporary society using the very images that helped to create that society.

Automatic Emulsion Coating

An in-feed device, a glue trough, a rotating continuous flat rubber blanket, flat-bed print table harnesses to lift and lower the flat screens, and a double-blade squeegee trough.

Manually run machine can be applied into multi-color printing by multiple persons simultaneously. The screen layer and the pallet layer can rotate independently, which makes it easier for multi-color printing

Today's evolved version of the emulsion coating machine ensures maximum accuracy in all four color printing and in fine line printing. It also allows the option between one side and two side coating. Coating pressure can be adjusted individually on both sides with help of a pneumatic cylinder.

Continuously washed, dried, and rotated back to the fabric in-feed area

Automatic versions are now used in the industry too.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

The dragonflies block printing were done by Orijit as part of the Flight series, to resurrect block printing against its new counterpart, screenprinting, by emphasising on its strenghts of dynamism, movement and space in a fabric.

The Whirling Dervishes’ block print is the result of Sutanu’s zeal to take his inspiration from everyday objects. He has used two blocks to create the design and repeated the pattern to create a tessellation.

The DTC bus print was created by Gautam in memory of one of the primary representatives of everyday Delhi life that were recently replaced by new low floor buses. This print has given them an afterlife. The Banyan tree block print was created by Orijit to commemorate one of the oldest symbologies of India, Both a resting and meeting place in our culture, it represents wisdom, longevity and enlightenment.

Dadaji sneezed SO loudly

Waves in the water, waves in her hair Mushrooms on tree bark, feathers in the air

Moti barked SO loudly That the hen scuttled away

Words in a book that take her to places Of mystery, history, fun and new faces

When she sleeps, her dreams do shine and sway In hopes of discovering new things every day

Lines on a leaf like lines on her hands The marks of her feet in wet seaside sand

Billu meowed SO loudly that And Dadaji sneezed LOUDLY again!

The mother sparrow chirped SO loudly That billu the cat came bounding up
