MESSAGES A Welcome from the President A Welcome from the President Welcome back to another exciting year of Kootenay ICE Hockey. The 2015-2016 season brings winds of change to our Hockey Club with an entirely new coaching staff and a roster turnover that we have not experienced in years. Despite the high turnover and cyclical nature of Major Junior Hockey our organization expects to make the playoffs every year and this year is no different. Thanks in part to the quality scouting and coaching we have made the playoffs all 17 years we have been in Cranbrook, all while finishing with a .500 or better record for a WHL record 16th consecutive seasons (both are the longest active streaks in the WHL). Our organization has been very fortunate since moving to Cranbrook to enjoy an unparalleled amount of on-ice success. This year’s team will be the youngest in franchise history, but our expectations for success both on and off the ice will not change. Our fans have come to expect a team that is hard working on the ice and ambassadors for Cranbrook and the entire East Kootenay region off the ice. On behalf of the entire organization, welcome back and I hope you enjoy the game. Jeff Chynoweth, President & Governor

Greetings from the WHL From humble beginnings as a fledgling seven-team league on the Western Canadian prairies in 1966 to the largest junior hockey league of its kind in the world today, no one would have envisioned the growth the Western Hockey League has experienced over the last 50 years. The WHL has certainly come a long way and this is in large part due to the commitment WHL Club ownership has made in setting the standard for player development on a worldwide basis. The WHL and our 22 member Clubs take great pride in providing an ideal environment for the top prospects in the system to reach their potential both on and off the ice. From our world class coaching and arena facilities, to our comprehensive player safety and professional development initiatives and our fully guaranteed player education and scholarship program, the WHL is a leader in every category. As we celebrate our 50th season, we not only salute our founders – Scotty Munro, Bill Hunter, Del Wilson and Jim Piggott – but also our owners and community leaders who, together with long-time WHL President Ed Chynoweth, have been instrumental in the establishment and growth of our League. We also want to pay tribute to the players, coaches, managers and staff, along with the officials, who over the past 50 years have made this League what it is today. None of this would be possible without the ongoing support of our fans, sponsors, broadcasters and media from throughout the League. Without your loyal support, WHL Clubs would not be in a position to continue offering our players the world class experience they deserve. We trust you will join us in celebrating the WHL’s 50th Season as we prepare to host a series of special events throughout the 2015-16 season including the Canada – Russia Series in November in Kelowna and Kamloops, the CHL / NHL Top Prospects Game in January in Vancouver and the MasterCard Memorial Cup in May in Red Deer. Ron Robison Commissioner Western Hockey League

TONIGHT’S OPPONENT LAST OUTING: The Edmonton Oil Kings were all about being energized for the most important game of the year to date and that energy paid off as they got goals from Lane Bauer (29), Brandon Baddock (22), Aaron Irving (9) and Brett Pollock (28) on route to a heart-stopping 4-3 victory Sunday night over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The guys were optimistic coming off of a hard-fought loss last night to the Calgary Hitmen and stuck to the gameplan outhustling, outskating and outshooting the Hurricanes while receiving some timely saves from Payton Lee in the win. LAST MEETING: Tonight marks the sixth and final meeting this season between the Oil Kings and Kootenay ICE. Edmonton has won the last four encounters, including a 6-2 triumph at Western Financial Place February 26. The lone victory for Kootenay against the Oil Kings came on October 26 thanks to a Zak Zborosky overtime winner. 2015-16 SEASON SERIES: Monday, October 26: Kootenay 5 at Edmonton 4 (OT) Saturday, December 19: Kootenay 2 at Edmonton 5 Sunday, January 31: Kootenay 3 at Edmonton 6 Tuesday, February 2: Edmonton 6 at Kootenay 2 Friday, February 26: Edmonton 6 at Kootenay 2 Tuesday, March 15: Edmonton at Kootenay 2015-16 STATISTICAL LEADERS: Goals (29), Power Play Goals (9) – Lane Bauer Assists (47), Points (75) – Brett Pollock Penalty Minutes (139) – Brandon Baddock UPCOMING SCHEDULE: Thursday, March 17 vs. Red Deer Saturday, March 19 at Red Deer
