KNOX THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY F R I DAY, N OV E M B E R 14, 2014 Installation Ceremony, 7:00 p.m. Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Fort Lauderdale, Florida

DR. D. JAMES KENNEDY, FOUNDER The mission of Knox to “equip servant leaders for effective Reformed ministry that is Christ centered, gospel driven, and mission focused” flows directly from the life and ministry of Knox founder, the late Dr. D. James Kennedy.

“I believe God has raised up Knox Seminary to have both a national and an international impact which will reach and prepare servants of Christ to take the good news of the gospel to our desperately needy world.”

A renowned minister, author, and Christian leader, Dr. Kennedy is remembered for his commitment to evangelism and to taking the salt and light of the gospel into every area of life. He served as senior pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church for 47 years. The founder of Evangelism Explosion, the world’s most widely used evangelism training program, Dr. Kennedy was also a pioneer in the use of television and radio to bring the light of Christ into the lives of his listeners. The National Religious Broadcasters inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2005. His desire to equip others to understand and apply the scriptures to all of life led him to found Knox Theological Seminary, a graduate school training Christians for lifelong ministry as pastors, teachers, and missionaries. Dr. Kennedy’s goal in founding the school, he said, “is that Knox Seminary will combine quality academics with a passionate commitment to the sovereignty of God, the inerrancy of His word, the Great Commission, and the Cultural Mandate. Knox graduates will stand for truth without compromise and have a zeal of evangelism.” The Seminary was named for John Knox, whose burden for the salvation of his countrymen prompted his famous, heartfelt prayer, “Lord, give me Scotland, or I die!” Dr. Kennedy hoped that Knox students, inspired by John Knox, would echo that famous prayer for their homelands --and the world.

DR. SAMUEL L AMERSON Dr. Samuel Lamerson is all Knox: a graduate in the first class, friend and colleague of Knox’s founder, Dr. D. James Kennedy, Pastor at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Professor of New Testament, Dean, and now President. Dr. Lamerson was the Sunday morning preaching and teaching pastor at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church during the illness and after the passing of Dr. D. James Kennedy, from January 2007 until Easter of 2009. Prior to joining the Knox faculty, Dr. Lamerson taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Dr. Lamerson’s teaching philosophy can best be summed up in a quotation from William Butler Yeats; “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” He desires to light a fire in his students that will cause them to become life-long students of the Word of God. He uniquely combines academic research and teaching with over 30 years of pastoral experience, ranging from senior pastor to director of children’s ministries. President Professor of New Testament

PRELUDE Largo from “Xerxes” G. F. Handel Ein’ Fest Burg Johann Walther

Mr. Mark C. Jones, Organist

*CALL TO WORSHIP PROCESSIONAL HYMN * “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” A mighty fortress is our God, bulwark never failing; our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevaling. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal. Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing, were not the right man on our side, the man of God’s own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he; Lord Sabaoth, his name, from age to age the same, and he must win the battle.

Special Guest Mr. Ryan Brasington, Knox Alumnus Director of Worship, Rio Vista Community Church Fort Lauderdale, FL And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed his truth to triumph through us. The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure; one little word shall fell him. That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours, thru him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill; God’s truth abideth still; his kingdom is forever.

Rev. E. Todd Buchner, Knox Alumnus Senior Pastor, Reidville Presbyterian Church Greenville, SC

Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower: Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one. Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight; Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise, Thou mine Inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art. High King of Heaven, my victory won, May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
