To be a photographer, to me, means to be a storyteller. These images encapsulate everyday life in different ways and colors.

My work is often a direct response to the craziness of everyday life. Ideas come to me from everywhere because I’m bombarded by a daily stream of media that seeps into my thoughts and comes out in my work — both consciously and unconsciously. My artwork is slightly surreal, yet familiar, and something like low-brow digital printmaking.

My style of artwork is inspired by the PostConsumerism movement. When I find things with interesting textures, I want to make something out of that. The objects I find are often otherwise useless: containers, packing materials, dried paint. They are the residue of our disposable, one-time-use material culture. By making art with these objects, they are rescued, redeemed & revived. I draw attention to the rhythmic interplay of light and shadow on corrugated cardboard, the dreamlike diaphanous nature of plastic shopping bags, and the brilliant hues of the bottles which make packaged beverages seem all the more appealing.

I feel very comfortable doing portraits, but I always try to go a little further. That is the reason why I try to look for risky compositions, with a touch of surrealism. Works of artists such as Man Ray, Erwin Blumenfeld, and Guy Bourdin inspire me immensely. I do not like to get attached to reality. Instead, I like to transform it. Coast (2019) is a series of photographs of minimalist character, in which the simple compositions stand out. The swimmers show sensual and elegant poses under a backdrop of surrealist air.

When I moved to Mexico City and “found the way that light encounters the human body, I started developing MAPAS (maps). With this project, I use a reduced color palette, only giving clues to the viewer on how to travel through the painting. Later on, I started working with ink and acrylic paint on canvas, developing Heridas (wounds). This project explores how different experiences and situations leave marks on us. After this, I was inspired to include textile material in my work and the project Pintura Construida (constructed painting) began.

I live my life through my visual creations as a woman who loves women. I shamelessly paste #LesbiyanaKontraDutertismo stickers around the metro and pet all the stray cats. Feel free to interpret my artwork as you like.
