Girl Scouts Love State Parks

What: Thanks to a generous grant from Alcoa Foundation, GSSI will offer mini grants for take action and highest award projects that focus on environmental sustainability and/or environmental education throughout the 2020-2021 membership year. Troops, service unit events, service unit camps, and/or individuals (registered members grades K-12) must submit a mini grant proposal form to be considered. If awarded, project will receive $75.00 towards project expenses. TAKE ACTION FOR THE EVIRONMENT

When: September 11-12, 2021 What: Girl Scouts love the outdoors, especially our state parks! Girl Scouts of the USA and the National Association of State Park Directors have partnered to host this annual event, Girl Scouts Love State Parks.

Tree Pledge Grant

In partnership with Alcoa, GSSI’s Local Tree Pledge will work to provide safer and healthier air and water for our neighbors, make our communities more attractive, and teach girls to be good environmental stewards. TREE PLEDGE REQUEST

GSSI’s Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend

Celebrate with Lincoln State Park: Abe’s Neighborhood Walk What: Join the Naturalist on a 2 mile walk through Abraham Lincoln’s neighborhood to celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend! You will see his church, local roads, mill sites and even see where young Abe was “killed for a while.” Bring good walking shoes and be prepared for insects. Where: Lincoln State Park Nature Center 15476 County Road 300 E, Lincoln City, IN 47552 When: Sunday, September 12 at 2 p.m. CST Cost: $1 per person for a 30-60 min program . GSUSA Virtual Events Calendar

What: The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), along with Girl Scouts of the USA and the other WAGGGS member organizations, have celebrated World Thinking Day since 1926. That’s when delegates from around the globe met at Camp Edith Macy—now called Edith Macy Conference Center—in New York and agreed that February 22 would now be known as a special day for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide. From educating communities about food production and selling Treasury Bonds during WWI and the Spanish flu pandemic to planting victory gardens and training in first aid during WWII, Girl Scouts have always stepped up in times of need, and our current COVID-19 crisis is no different. All across our country and our world, Girl Scouts have leapt to the aid of others by engaging in acts of service and kindness. ! GIRL AWARDS LEARN MORE ABOUT HIGHEST AWARDS Every Girl Scout goes above and beyond to make a difference in her community and the greater world. The skills and experiences she gains along the way set her up for special recognition through the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards. Service to Girl Scouting

What: If you choose to volunteer at least 20 hours to the Girl Scout organization, you can receive the Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador Service to Girl Scouting bar. For example, you might volunteer your time at a special event for younger girls, be an office assistant for your council or service unit, or help with special projects. Pin is purchased by member. Application Community Service Bar

What: To earn the Community Service bar, first choose an organization you'd like to volunteer with. The organization will need to agree to give you instructions about the work you'll be doing. Complete at least 20 hours of service to earn the bar and then complete this online form. Pin is purchased by member. Application

Honor and Golden Honor Troops

What: Activities and steps must be completed by October 1. The application is due April 1 to be recognized at the annual award event in May. Honor and Golden Honor troops meet the Essential Elements of a Girl Scout Troop, and provide overall excellence in troop management and programming in a given year. To achieve this honor, leaders and girls must work in partnership with each other, other troops, Service Team and council staff. *Golden Honor Troop applicants must complete all Honor Troop requirements PLUS the Golden Honor Add-ons. Global Action Award What: Our Global Action award calls for girls to address the SDGs by discovering, connecting, and taking action in their communities and beyond. In 2022, we’re emphasizing SDG #3 (good health and wellbeing) and SDG #11 (sustainable cities and communities). In 2021, girls explored SDG #13 (climate action) to earn their Global Action award. Scheduled Events & Programs Evansville Thunderbolts Traditional Arts Today Program Title: Girl Scout Cookie Kick Off For: Girl Scout Families and Troops When: Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 7 pm CT (Doors open at 6 pm) Where: Ford Center in Evansville, IN What: Come join the fun with GSSI and the Evansville Thunderbolts to kick off the 2022 cookie season!! The girls will have the opportunity to be silly at a photo booth, participate in a Post-Game Slap Shot activity, and meet and greet the Thunderbolt mascot, Pride. Bring a stuffed animal (like a Koala Bear) to throw on the ice for the Teddy Bear Toss. These toys are collected by the Thunderbolts and donated to local children in need. Program Title: Cybersecurity What: Come hang out with your troop and a real IT firm where you’ll play games, solve puzzles, earn THREE badges, and learn about real-life good-guy hackers! Find out what happens to every phone photo you take, every video you post on TikTok or YouTube, and how you could even get spied on in your own home (and how to prevent that). Program Title: One Love – Healthy & Unhealthy Relationships What: One Love engages young people with powerful films and honest conversation. Through their workshops and peer-to-peer discussions, One Love offers a framework that helps students spread the message online and in their communities. One Love educates young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships, empowering them to identify and avoid abuse and learn how to love better. The programs give students the tools to recognize the warning signs of abuse, understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and help to empower bystanders. Where: Virtual. Bluespring Caverns Night In the Cave Overnight

Program Title: Troop Tie-Dye What: Tie dye a T-Shirt. Includes all supplies and t-shirt. Girl Scouts and adults can tie dye. When: Anytime program Where: Programs can be scheduled at the Acclaim office, or they will come to your troop meeting location. Cost: $6 per shirt for youth and adult sizes small-XL. Spend the evening immersed in invigorating challenges, dive head first into “Cave Exploring” with guided tours and enjoy a boat tour over the Mystery River! Sift Yoga

Program Title: Pose and Paint with Sift Yoga What: Allow your creativity to flow with our Pose and Paint session for kids! In this class we will combine yoga, relaxation and mindfulness with a vibrant painting focusing on creativity. At the end of the class, students will have a dry completed masterpiece of their own creation to take home. Covid-19 Time Capsule Complete the following steps to earn your COVID–19 Time Capsule Patch. Time Capsule 1. Find a capsule: Find something to store your items in. It can be a shoe box, a small cardboard box, a tube, or anything that you can find that can be closed. Don’t forget to decorate it. 2. Fill the capsule: Find things that tell the story of your life during the COVID-19 pandemic. It could be newspaper articles, pictures, or an empty box or wrapper of your favorite quarantine snack. Be sure to also include a letter from yourself about what it has been like to live during this time. 3. Seal the capsule: Once you have put everything you want into the capsule, seal it up. You can use tape or glue or even wrap it up in wrapping paper. Be sure to put a do not open until date on it. Backyard Camp In Challenge Patch 1. Set up camp: Even though you may not be able to camp out you can still set up camp inside. Make a fort to sleep in and set up an area to do activities. 2. Make a camp meal: Think of your favorite camp meal or snack. Cook it either over a fire or find a creative way to cook it indoors. 3. Do a camp activity: Think of your favorite camp activity. Bring your family together to do that activity. It could be going on a hike, looking at the stars, making a craft, or singing fun camp songs.
