About Water in Italy …  Italy is a peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea. Among its 20 regions, there’re only 5 regions without access to the sea.  Major subdivisions of the Mediterranean Sea include : •Adriatic Sea, •Tyrrhenian Sea, (the bigger Italian sea) •Ionian Sea •Ligurian Sea.

 The major ones are in the North and they rise from the Alps ice & snow  The major rivers in Italy are: • the Po River

 Several lakes  The bigger ones are in the North because of the Alps

ice & snow • the Lake Garda (the bigger one) •The Lake Como •The Lake Maggiore  A lot of lakes are in the Centre, too

Italy has got large quantity of water but Italians use a lot of it !

 40 liters per day : of freshwater per person is generally considered to be a necessary minimum to meet needs for drinking and sanitation.  165 liters per day: of freshwater per person is the European average. 215 liters per day of freshwater per person: is the italian average

Italy is in the first place in Europe for water consumption ! And It’s in the third place in the world, after USA and Canada !

The first Italian source of sustainable energy with 2000 hydroelectric power stations (mainly in Northern Italy) They produce 16% of energy demand

Wind Power

But Italy doesn’t produce energy from tidal power !
