The parent, guardian or supervisor from the reception centre …
→ assisteert wanneer de jongere zich aanmeldt voor The Sound of Home op de website; → organiseert het eerste contact met de muziekschool;
→ assists the juvenile in applying for The Sound of Home on the website; → organises the first contact with the music school;
→ gaat mee naar de eerste muziekles;
→ accompanies the student to the first music lesson;
→ kijkt erop toe dat de jongere wekelijks in de muziekschool en weer thuis geraakt;
→ ensures that the juvenile attends the music lessons every week and safely returns home;
→ motiveert de jongere om naar de lessen te blijven gaan;
→ motivates the juvenile to keep attending the music lessons;
→ contacteert bij uitval van de leerling zowel de muziekschool als The Sound of Home en zoekt mee naar een oplossing.
→ contacts the music schools as well as The Sound of Home when the student drops out and participates in looking for a solution.
De muziekschool … → doet een intakegesprek met de jongere en de ouder, voogd of begeleider van het opvangcentrum; → stelt zich flexibel op naar de specifieke doelgroep (de leerling kan zonder eerst een jaar notenleer te moeten volgen meteen starten met instrumentles of zang, er wordt op creatieve wijze omgesprongen met taaldrempels en er is aandacht voor het feit dat nieuwkomers vaak nog in een fase van traumaverwerking zitten); → onderhoudt actief de relatie met de leerling en de ouder, voogd of begeleider van het opvangcentrum; → gaat ermee akkoord naar oplossingen te zoeken wanneer een leerling stopt en is bereid om eventueel een nieuwe leerling aan te nemen.
The music school … → does an intake interview with the juvenile and the parent, guardian or supervisor from the reception centre; → demonstrates flexibility with respect for the specific target group (the student can immediately start with instrument or singing lessons without first having to study music theory, there is a creative approach to language barriers and there is empathy for the fact that newcomers are often still coping with trauma); → actively maintains the contact with the juvenile and the parent, guardian or supervisor from the reception centre; → agrees to look for solutions when a student drops out and is open to eventually accept a new student.

Muziekles in Belgische muziekacademies voor jonge vluchtelingen!

WIE ZIJN WE & WAT DOEN WE? Klarafestival sloeg begin 2017 de handen in elkaar met SOS Kinderdorpen, Fedasil, Rode Kruis, Croix Rouge, Minor-Ndako, Music Fund en UNHCR om de toegang tot muziekonderwijs voor jonge nieuwkomers in België te vergemakkelijken. Vanuit de overtuiging dat kunst en cultuur zowel een basisrecht als een basisbehoefte zijn om zich ergens thuis te voelen, nam Klarafestival het initiatief tot ‘The Sound of Home’. Via dit beursprogramma krijgen een honderdtal jonge vluchtelingen in België de kans om muziekonderwijs te volgen. Dit gebeurt in een muziekacademie in de buurt van waar deze jongeren verblijven. The Sound of Home betaalt het inschrijvingsgeld, de huur van het instrument en het lesmateriaal terug.
WHO ARE WE & WHAT ARE WE DOING? In early 2017, Klarafestival joined forces with SOS Kinderdorpen, Fedasil, Rode Kruis, Croix Rouge, Minor-Ndako, Music Fund and UNHCR to provide easier access to music education for young newcomers in Belgium. Convinced that art and culture are a basic right as well as a basic need to feel at home, Klarafestival took the initiative to ‘The Sound of Home’. With this scholarship, more than 100 young refugees each year get the chance to start or continue their music education in Belgium. The lessons take place in music schools close to the place where they reside. The Sound of Home refunds the tuition fee, the cost of renting an instrument and the teaching material.

* Moeite met kiezen? Ga naar opendeurdagen en leer alle instrumenten kennen! Nadat je je hebt aangemeld op de website kan je ook The Sound of Home om raad vragen.

WIE KAN MEEDOEN? Je komt in aanmerking voor The Sound of Home als: → je tussen 6 en 26 jaar oud bent; → je nog niet langer dan 2 jaar in België verblijft;

Apply on our website www.soundofhome.be. We will contact your music school.
→ je in België een asielprocedure hebt lopen, je subsidiaire bescherming geniet of erkend bent als vluchteling. Indien je in het schooljaar 2018/19 deel uitmaakte van The Sound of Home, kan je voor het komende schooljaar een nieuwe aanvraag indienen, ook al voldoe je niet meer aan de voorwaarden. Een nieuwe aanvraag is echter nodig. Je beurs wordt niet automatisch verlengd. Elke aanvraag wordt individueel bekeken. Als je niet voldoet aan alle criteria, kan je aanvraag op basis van je persoonlijke motivatie eventueel toch aanvaard worden, als er nog plaatsen vrij zijn.

* Not able to choose? Open days are helpful to get acquainted with different music instruments! The Sound of Home can also give you some advice, after you have applied on the website.
You can apply for The Sound of Home if: → you are between 6 and 26 years of age; → you have been in Belgium for no longer than 2 years; → you have entered a Belgian asylum procedure, you have a refugee status or a subsidiary protection status. If you were part of The Sound of Home in 2018/19, you can submit a new application, even when you don’t comply with the conditions anymore. A new application is necessary. Your application is not renewed automatically. Each application is considered individually. If you don’t comply with all the conditions, the scholarship can still be granted, depending on your motivation and only if there still are some places left.
