The parent, guardian or supervisor from the reception centre …
→ assiste le jeune lorsque celui-ci s’inscrit sur le site web de The Sound of Home ;
→ assists the juvenile in applying for The Sound of Home on the website;
→ organise le premier contact avec l’école de musique ;
→ organises the first contact with the music school;
→ assiste au premier cours de musique ;
→ accompanies the student to the first music lesson;
→ veille à ce que le jeune se rende bien chaque semaine à l’école de musique et rentre chez lui ;
→ ensures that the juvenile attends the music lessons every week and safely returns home;
→ motive le jeune à continuer à suivre les cours ;
→ motivates the juvenile to keep attending the music lessons;
→ en cas d’abandon de l’élève, contacte l’école de musique ainsi que The Sound of Home afin de trouver une solution.
→ contacts the music schools as well as The Sound of Home when the student drops out and participates in looking for a solution.
L’école de musique… → organise une première rencontre avec le jeune et le parent, tuteur ou accompagnateur du centre d’accueil ; → se montre flexible vis-à-vis de ce groupe-cible spécifique (l’élève peut directement entamer des cours d’instrument ou de chant sans devoir au préalable suivre une année de solfège, elle essaie de contourner de façon créative les obstacles liés à la langue et tient compte du fait que les nouveaux arrivants se trouvent souvent encore dans une phase de traumatisme) ; → entretient une relation active avec l’élève et le parent, tuteur ou accompagnateur du centre d’accueil ; → accepte de rechercher des solutions lorsqu’un élève abandonne et est prête à admettre éventuellement un nouvel élève.
The music school … → does an intake interview with the juvenile and the parent, guardian or supervisor from the reception centre; → demonstrates flexibility with respect for the specific target group (the student can immediately start with instrument or singing lessons without first having to study music theory, there is a creative approach to language barriers and there is empathy for the fact that newcomers are often still coping with trauma); → actively maintains the contact with the juvenile and the parent, guardian or supervisor from the reception centre; → agrees to look for solutions when a student drops out and is open to eventually accept a new student.

QUI SOMMES-NOUS ET QUE FAISONS-NOUS ? Début 2017, le Klarafestival s’est associé à SOS Villages d’Enfants, Fedasil, Rode Kruis, la Croix-Rouge, Minor-Ndako, Music Fund et l’UNHCR afin de faciliter l’accès à l’enseignement musical aux jeunes arrivants en Belgique. Mu par la conviction que l’art et la culture constituent tant un droit qu’un besoin fondamental d’appartenance, le Klarafestival a décidé de mettre sur pied « The Sound of Home ». Via ce programme d’octroi de bourses, une centaine de jeunes réfugiés en Belgique ont la possibilité de suivre des cours de musique et ce, dans une académie de musique située à proximité de l’endroit où ils sont hébergés. The Sound of Home prend en charge leurs frais d’inscription, la location de leur instrument et le matériel pédagogique.
WHO ARE WE & WHAT ARE WE DOING? In early 2017, Klarafestival joined forces with SOS Kinderdorpen, Fedasil, Rode Kruis, Croix Rouge, Minor-Ndako, Music Fund and UNHCR to provide easier access to music education for young newcomers in Belgium. Convinced that art and culture are a basic right as well as a basic need to feel at home, Klarafestival took the initiative to ‘The Sound of Home’. With this scholarship, more than 100 young refugees each year get the chance to start or continue their music education in Belgium. The lessons take place in music schools close to the place where they reside. The Sound of Home refunds the tuition fee, the cost of renting an instrument and the teaching material.

Inscris-toi sur www.soundofhome.be. Nous nous chargeons ensuite de contacter l’école de musique.
Prends rendez-vous avec ton école de musique, fais connaissance avec ton professeur et finalise ton inscription.
The Sound of Home prend en charge tes frais d’inscription, la location de ton instrument et le matériel pédagogique pendant un an.
Tu peux commencer en septembre !
* Tu as des difficultés à choisir ? Rends-toi aux portes ouvertes et découvre les différents instruments. Après t’être inscrit·e sur le site web, tu peux également demander conseil à The Sound of Home.

QUI PEUT PARTICIPER ? Tu peux être sélectionné·e pour participer à The Sound of Home : → si tu as entre 6 et 26 ans ; → si tu séjournes en Belgique depuis moins de 2 ans ;
Choose a music school in your neighbourhood! Which instrument suits you best? Singing is also an option!*
Apply on our website www.soundofhome.be. We will contact your music school.
→ si tu as introduit une procédure de demande d’asile en Belgique, si tu bénéficies d’une protection subsidiaire ou es reconnu·e comme réfugié·e. Si tu as participé à The Sound of Home lors de l’année scolaire 2018/19, tu peux introduire une nouvelle demande pour l’année à venir, même si tu ne satisfais plus aux conditions. L’introduction d’une nouvelle demande est cependant nécessaire. Ta bourse ne sera pas automatiquement prolongée. Chaque demande est examinée individuellement. Il se peut qu’une demande soit acceptée même si elle ne satisfait pas à tous les critères, en fonction de ta motivation personnelle et des places encore disponibles.

Start your lessons in September!
If you were part of The Sound of Home in 2018/19, you can submit a new application, even when you don’t comply with the conditions anymore. A new application is necessary. Your application is not renewed automatically.
* Not able to choose? Open days are helpful to get acquainted with different music instruments! The Sound of Home can also give you some advice, after you have applied on the website.
→ you are between 6 and 26 years of age; → you have been in Belgium for no longer than 2 years; → you have entered a Belgian asylum procedure, you have a refugee status or a subsidiary protection status.
Each application is considered individually. If you don’t comply with all the conditions, the scholarship can still be granted, depending on your motivation and only if there still are some places left.
