Discover how delicious bread can be at The Handmade Bakery, the multi-award winning cooperative and the UK’s first communitysupported bakery. Be inspired to grow your own food at Edibles, where founders Rosie, Steve and Pip believe everyone can eat more healthily and look after the environment by producing their own vegetables, fruits and herbs. Their events and courses will have you reaching for a trowel in no time.
Watch a true expert at work at The Butchers Arms in Hepworth where celebrated TV chef Tim Bilton regularly holds demonstration events to share his skills and his passion for fine food. At this award-winning village gastro pub, Tim promises that everything on the menu, right down to the pickles, is local.

Try something different Find an international flavour with a difference in Milnsbridge at Mongolian restaurant Temujin and at The Carriage House in Marsden which specialises in authentic Turkish food with bed and breakfast and onsite camping. The beautifully furnished Lemon Tree Trattoria in Honley offers an authentic taste of the Mediterranean with many of its ingredients sourced direct from Italy. Wedged tightly between buildings in Meltham you’ll find the Quirky Corner. As different as its name suggests, this is a tiny restaurant with a big reputation. The Golcar Lily promises to meet any special requirements or dietary needs with a carefully crafted selection of vegetarian, vegan, gluten and lactose-free options alongside its creative a la carte menu.

Soak up the Last of The Summer Wine atmosphere in Sid’s Café or the Wrinkled Stocking Tea Rooms in Holmfirth where you’ll find memorabilia from the much-loved sit-com, and then grab a luxury ice cream cone from Longley’s Ice Cream and Coffee Shop before heading off to explore the town’s other delights. Stop off at The Old Bridge Bakery where every imaginable cake and pastry is made on site along with a selection of mouth watering speciality breads. Treat the kids to a visit to Vanilla Bean coffee shop and ice cream parlour where they can chose from artisan award-winning ice cream made with local farm milk. Cider-lovers are well catered for too with The Pure North Cider and Juice Company where apples are grown on site, picked and pressed by hand and traditionally fermented to give a superb quality brew, all done with minimal waste and least possible impact on the environment. The Valleys area can stake a claim as the real ale capital of Britain with the most independent breweries per population. The Riverhead Tap and Dining Room in Marsden offers at least seven beers brewed on site while beers from The Nook Brewhouse, Holmfirth can be found on site at The Nook pub and next-door neighbour Carnícería bar and restaurant. Market Freshness and Value Browse around Holmfirth market every Thursday and its specialist craft and food market on Saturdays. Here you will find - among many other stalls - valleyreared meat from Coddy’s Farm Shop and distinctive homemade pickles, chutneys, jams and sauces from Lily Pickles of Holmfirth. For an even greater selection of food stalls, try the town’s long-running monthly Farmers Market on the third Sunday of each month. Two Valleys Fresh Produce offers high quality pork and beef direct from twin family-run farms in the Holme and Colne Valleys. Buy at Holmfirth farmers market, or visit the delicatessen in Meltham.

Take a trip to Netherton where you’ll find the master butchers at Hinchliffe’s Farm Shop and Restaurant. The pork pies produced by this family business have been judged the best in the country by the Pork Pie Appreciation Society. While you’re shopping, the children will love getting to know the farm animals and the gentle giants of the Holme Valley Heavy Horses. Bolster Moor Farm Shop is another family business with a reputation for superb meat with awardwinning pies, sausages, breads and confectionery all made on site. After browsing the store, visit the coffee shop with its amazing views.

Holmfirth’s festival is a fabulous free weekend jam-packed with hourly cookery demonstrations, food markets, free tasters, live music and lots of entertainment. The Colne Valley festival is smaller and all about community; focussing on local-grown food swapping, reducing carbon footprints and growing at altitude. The Nook celebrates real ale with popular spring and summer beer festivals.

Dine in Style In Marsden, the informal roadside inn appearance of The Olive Branch hides an eatery that has been highly recommended by Which, The Good Food Guide and the highly prestigious Michelin guides for the last 14 years. Originally a cloth finishing mill, The Weavers in Golcar is a stylish restaurant with a 40-year reputation for serving superb food. Soak up the atmosphere in this carefully renovated historic building which retains many original features such as the old mill chimney. Indulge at The Hepworth where fine contemporary British food is perfectly matched by the chic understated decor. Or choose Honley’s Mustard and Punch for the best in local and seasonal produce. Check their website for themed events which include clay pigeon shoots. Visit Meltham and find the former mansion home of Sir David Brown, one-time owner of the Aston Martin motor company after whom the famous DB-series of cars is named, now converted into the Durker Roods Hotel and Restaurant.
