Notes Australian Jarrod Lyle shot a bogey-free, 8-under-par 63 in the final round to pull away from the field and win the Mexico Open by five strokes. Lyle took charge on the final day with four birdies and an eagle en route to a 6-under-par 29 on the front nine. The six-hole stretch allowed Lyle to overtake playing partner Greg Chalmers by two at the turn. Chalmers opened with back-to-back bogeys on the back nine, and Lyle’s lead was never threatened the rest of the way. The Tour returned to Mexico last year for the first time since 2001, when its run at the Monterrey Open at Club Campestre ended after nine years.

The 2008 tournament was the 50th edition of the Mexico Open, which began in 1944. The list of past champions includes Sam Snead, Jimmy Demaret, Billy Casper, Seve Ballesteros, Johnny Miller, Lee Trevino, Ben Crenshaw, Nick Price and Stewart Cink. The addition of the Mexico Open to the Nationwide Tour schedule brought the total number of international stops in 2008 to five, the most in any year of the Tour’s 19-year history. The Tour also made stops in Panama, New Zealand, Australia and Canada last year.
