IMPORTANT NOTE: In addition to need-based aid and merit scholarships, wages earned as a result of co-op or other experiential learning experiences can be used to off-set the cost of a student’s education. Nearly 98% of the 2011 entering class received financial aid or scholarships. For this reason, ALL families are encouraged to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to take advantage of the University’s need-based aid and state and federal gift aid.

Other Kettering Scholarships •

*Among top ranked schools, our tuition is among the lowest in the nation. Combined with professional co-op earnings and generous financial aid packages, Kettering is very affordable to our students. All figures may be subject to change.

ALL ADMITTED STUDENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY CONSIDERED FOR MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS Merit Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance. Indicators used to assess awards include a combination of ACT and/or SAT scores, plus GPA. Kettering University Need-Based Grants are determined by the results of the FAFSA. All students are highly encouraged to complete the FAFSA starting January 1 of every year. Each year a student’s need-based aid is reevaluated to determine the new award for the next year.

TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID

Grants and Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and/or need and don’t need to be repaid. Possible sources are: high schools, churches, local businesses, and civic organizations. The best place to look for information about these private sources of funding is the reference section of your library or on the Internet.

Loans Loans are funds borrowed by the student or parent that must be paid back. The Direct Loan Program offers the following types of loans: • Subsidized Loans: For students with demonstrated financial need, as determined by federal regulations. No interest is charged while a student is in school at least half-time, during the grace period, and during deferment periods. • Unsubsidized Loans: Not based on financial need, interest is charged during all periods, even during the time the student is in school, and in grace and deferment periods. • PLUS Loans: Unsubsidized loans for the parents of dependent students. PLUS loans help pay for education expenses up to the cost of attendance minus all other financial assistance. Interest is charged during all periods. Alternative (private) Loans • Administered and processed by private lending institutions to be used for educational costs. • Alternative loans are not part of the Federal Loan Program and should be used for circumstances where you have exhausted all other options in regards to financing your education.

Work Study Work Study programs let you earn money toward your education by working on-campus. Funded by federal and state governments and by Kettering, work-study is available for nearly all interested students who apply for assistance. Please note: Applicable to United States citizens or permanent residents of the United States only.
